I have always found Michelle Obama to be a sincerely respectable woman, and she is the only First Lady who I can actually remember following the entire campaign and presidency. Maybe because I’m not entirely old enough to remember the previous First Ladies, but Michelle has made a huge impact on America for youths, and most recently, she has made in impact by giving a speech, comforting hundreds of thousands of women by going after Trump.
As someone who considers themselves a feminist, of course I oppose Trump. I oppose Trump not only because of his lack of political experience, but also because of the horrific things he’s said for this entire election season and gotten away with it. It is very clear and recorded that Trump said the following statement:
“And when you’re a star they let you do it,” Trump says…Grab them by the pussy,” Trump says. “You can do anything.”

And First Lady, Michelle Obama, took on Trump, and replied to these misogynistic comments. By far, my favorite part of her speech was: “Strong men — men who are truly role models — don’t need to put down women to make themselves feel powerful. People who are truly strong lift others up. People who are truly powerful bring others together.”
I love this comment that is made in her speech because it is pretty accurate in my opinion. This entire election season, Trump has done nothing but insult people to make himself look better. Instead of providing actual policy, he has done nothing but act immaturely and quote wrong information and be rude to anyone who happens to disagree with him. Let’s not forget he adamantly stated that Mexicans were rapists and murders, that women were slobs and pigs and dogs, and that Muslims should be banned, but now he’s “sugarcoated” it a little to make is sound more “realistic.”
America does not need a president who is going to act like a 10-year-old. America does not need a liar who says, “I never said that,” whenever a fact-checker proves he is incorrect about a statement. Even his Vice President running mate, Mike Pence, has defended his outrageous claims. In the VP debate, when Kaine, Hillary’s running mate, confronted him about Trump running an insult based campaign, Pence denied it.
At what point will America realize that enough is enough?
Will Trump supporters need an actual video of him sexual assaulting━raping━a woman in order for them to see that this is not okay? Why is it so hard to see that Trump is bad for so many reasons? I’ll tell you why: political party polarization and party loyalty. Contemporarily, we as a society would rather be loyal to our political affiliation, rather than state what is blatantly wrong, and this goes for Democrats and Republicans as well. We have evolved from majority of citizens being moderate and some being slightly extreme left or extreme right. We are now all either “liberal” or “conservative” and when someone is of the opposite of our ideology, we think they are the cause of the destruction of America.
But whether you are Red or Blue, you have to acknowledge that this is not okay. The fact that Trump thinks it is okay to utilize his wealth and power to take advantage of a woman and to “grab them by the pussy” is entirely unacceptable and I would not want him anywhere near a female soul I know. Michelle said it best: “this isn’t about politics. It’s about basic human decency”
And if it isn’t about politics, but rather human decency…why aren’t more people on board with this?Tweet
