Turning 40
by Russell W. Dickson (libertarian)
Published: March 2, 2011
Today is the first day of the rest of my life or so I have been told. This morning I treated my wife to a salvo of creaks, pops and groans as I sat up in bed, turned off the alarm clock and made my slow trudge to the coffee pot -- my first day as a 40-year-old man, I thought as I looked in on my 10-year-old boy laying snuggly in his bed

Intercaste marriages illegal
by Kamala Sarup (centrist)
Published: March 2, 2011
I know that arranged weddings in South Asia, India and Nepal are mandated by our society, but I believe that the bride and groom must share compatibility in terms of their future, careers, beliefs, values and lifestyles, which are important. Therefore, it should be a woman's choice as to the kind of person she wants to have for a husband and with whom to share her life.

Fools' Rules
by John Kozy (liberal)
Published: March 3, 2010
Should law be based on rules or principles? What is the its goal? To enact rules that authorities want people to obey or to outlaw wrongdoing? The former allows the law to be used to make people conform. But conformity and freedom are incompatible. Rules-based systems turn people into sheep, allowing them to live without making moral choices. Maybe people prefer that; if so, any hope of alleviating the human condition must be abandoned, since sheep are easily led to the sheering.

by SovereignJim (libertarian)

The start of civilization is defined as that point in time when humans learned to increase the bounty of nature by their own efforts. Prior to this event a group had to possess control over an area sufficient to sustain them by hunting and gathering from what nature provided.

Nobel? That's No Prize
by John Kozy (liberal)
Published: October 22, 2009
Excellent journalism was never a priority of Joseph Pulitzer's, and the prizes reflect it. So does the mainstream press which is yellower than ever in both the conventional journalistic sense and the colloquial sense of cowardly. Even worse, however, are the Nobels. They are almost always given to those committed to Western civilization and Capitalism. So now Obama has gotten the prize. Why was it awarded to him? Because he is a protector of the economic status quo and a hegemonist—a true child of a decadent civilization. The deadly arms manufacturer would be highly pleased.

Turns out, there isn't much of a debate. This is only because those who hold the power in academia don't want to talk about it. Sad, really, because at some point in our lives, we all want to talk about it.
