by Russell W. Dickson (libertarian)
Published: April 7, 2011
What's does it say about our society that we can readily raise $1.171 trillion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and hundreds of millions of dollars for the no-fly zone in Libya, yet when it comes to the future of our kids, and their education, we can't raise a dime, or so it would seem.

Gov. Cuts Important School Programs
by Russell W. Dickson (libertarian)
Published: April 7, 2011
If the Congress, state and local municipalities get their way and cuts funding to art and music programs there will no need for paintbrushes, or musical instruments in the 2010-11 school. Changes, and cuts in funding for extracurricular and co-curricular activities, including music and arts programs, mean the death of our children's music and arts educations, and it is happening right now across the country.

Leftish Professors
by John Kozy (liberal)
Published: January 22, 2010
The notion that there is political lopsidedness in academia tilted to the left is an old canard propagated by anti-intellectual ideologists who do not now and never had a taste for truth. The only reason this canard keeps popping up is that journalism is a label that leans toward stupidity. It will go away when journalists quit reporting it.

Balderdashing Education Bashing
by John Kozy (liberal)
Published: November 14, 2009
When Calvin Coolidge said "The business of America is business," he and very few if any others knew just how deep this sentiment would sink into the American consciousness. Now it seems apparent that the way business thinks has muscled every other kind of thought process out of the American mind. The unfortunate result is that if no business solution exists to an American ailment, it festers into an incurable American disease.

Dumb, Dumber, and Dumbest in Higher Education
by John Kozy (liberal)
Published: October 23, 2009
As an elderly, former university professor, I am deeply anguished whenever I come across shameful academic writing. Such writing not only exposes the inability of the writer but it exhibits the extent of decline in American university teaching and is a symptom of a decadent civilization. Institutions that employ these writers have abandoned the classical educational ideals of truth, goodness, and beauty for belief, greed, and exploitation. And not only Americans but the whole world is paying a horrid price for it.

"Educate and inform the whole mass of the people. Enable them to see that it is their interest to preserve peace and order, and they will preserve them. And it required no very high degree of education to convince them of this. They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty." - Thomas Jefferson, 1787

One Billion Stimulus Dollars to Save California's Universities
by Paul Benedict (libertarian)
Published: June 12, 2009
Tax cutting Republicans will not trumpet this, and tax-them-ever-more Democrats won't admit this, but over a billion dollars of President Obama's stimulus money is finding a happy home in California's universities. The scandal is not Governor Schwarzenegger's draconian cuts; it's that California's universities' unfettered growth grows unchecked for yet another season.

Universal, Quality Education: "Free Is the Enemy of the Affordable"
by Ohm (centrist)
Published: March 29, 2009
I am opposed to making people start their life with (educational) debt, and stay indebted forever. But going in the other extreme - where the State takes it all - is equally reprehensible. More than that, it is dangerous - for it creates the thought that "Government has taken care of everything". An "easy does it" society is a stagnating society, at risk of uproot, at least being left behind, by others.

After being sent a 'Martial Law' email by a detroit Ron Paul admirer that I've never met, I thought I would give the public a chance to view the video and determine for themselves if this is simply more mass-distraction / fear-mongering, or is actually newsworthy. What happened next is I outlined my turnkey solution to help alleviate irrational fears in self and others.

National Educational Assessment Rubbish
by Walt Thiessen (libertarian)

The U.S. Department of Education is all aglow because 4th and 8th grade Math scores are two points higher than they were two years ago. They don't even want to consider the idea that intensive testing only proves that kids are learning to study for the tests, at the expense of their real educations.
