Column Name: See No Evil
Perspective: libertarian

Hear, ye deaf, and, ye blind, behold that you may see - Isaiah 42:18. Holy Bible

For you who turn a blind eye to the dismantling by the forces of government of your inalienable rights, granted by your Founding Fathers, dare never say you didn't see it coming.

Column Name: Freedom
Perspective: libertarian

Our country is headed down a path to fascism. I do extensive digging in this battle for information and present an objective view that points out key issues that affect our personal freedoms. My writings are meant to inform and try to open the minds of people so eager to surrender freedom for security.

A Plebian
Column Name: Uncommon Sense
Perspective: libertarian

This is my first attempt at writing so bear with me. Watching the spectacle that is the modern American primary process a recurring trend boldly announces itself like a stinging slap in the face.  The majority of Americans do want change.  Its too bad that the change they so desperately want is ,in reality, just old disproven ideas dressed up in fancy new clothes.

a Theologian
Column Name: On Faith and Politics
Perspective: libertarian

This is an attempt to highlight aspects of our political landscape from the perspective of a Christian world view.  It is aimed at those who profess Christ, but may be interesting for those who don't.  At the very least it should provide clarity to those who share common political ground but worship different (G)gods.  It is also an attempt to challenge those who profess Christ, but practice politics in a way contrary to his teaching.

A.H. Dowden
Column Name: Tiny Grenades of Truth
Perspective: libertarian

Seeing through the fog of partisan aspersion and exposing the vast absurdity that is post-modern American politics. This column will range wide and wax clever... from politics, religion and pop culture to geopolitical posturing, high statecraft and back again.

Aaron Emery
Column Name: *Plain Truth*
Perspective: libertarian

"Plain Truth" gives voice to those who feel many of our problems are not brought on by the people but by the establishment.  It takes a closer look at many of the issues plaguing modern day America and offers a challenging viewpoint while daring its readers to do the same.  Those who seek the plain truth will find it here in all its hideous glory.

Aaron Wolfe

Column Name: FineAnts
Perspective: centrist libertarian

my take on the economic/financial/marketplace

Adeeb Shabazz
Column Name: Liberty and the Black American
Perspective: libertarian

As with any people who have been singled out as victims of the racism of fascist state agendas, Black people in America tend to vote along socialist lines, usually choosing left-leaning candidates from the Democratic Party in hopes of finding relief from the effects of state-sponsored racism. However, a new thought is sweeping Black America, bringing with it a new appreciation for Liberty. Many Black people are rapidly learning that replacing fascist-oriented agendas with socialist-oriented agendas in government simply places a new face on the oppressor.

Black people in the 21st Century are moving with new speed toward supporting small government and libertarian ideals, with great concern for ending the draconian War On Drugs, taking more personal and community control of the education of our youth, and re-establishing the freedom for any American to start and operate a business with the least amount of government impedence. Liberty and the Black American is to serve as a voice for the liberty-minded Black American.

Alex Wallenwein
Column Name: The Left/Right Knockout Punch
Perspective: conservative

Taking sides in the political arena is like choosing between a boxer's left jab or right cross. It's pointless. You get your senses knocked out of you, either way. Yet, the "middle ground" is inhabited by spineless cowards. So, what do you do? Cover up and aim for your opponent's head!

B.B.G. Scorus
Column Name: Diatrabes of a Gay Poly-Psychologist
Perspective: centrist

My columns will tend to be related mostly to GLBT news because it's one of the things I'm most passionate about, however I also can get worked up into quite a tizzy when I talk about politics. I keep up with the Main-Stream Media on a daily basis. I get my news from CNN, my summaries from The Daily Show/Colbert Report, and I back up my knowledge using 365gay.com and Propeller (formerly Netscape.com). So my news knowledge is quite extensive. Basically my columns will be four parts GLBT, one part Politics, two parts Psychology, Five parts Dry Humour. Add a splash of Crown Royale for good measure.

Barbeaux
Column Name: Cracks in the Bell
Perspective: conservative libertarian

Cracks in the Bell is merely that. A place for ideas otherwise thought to be broken. A Crack in the Bell is a symbol. It is the shattering ring of ideas and it is meant to be judged but not shunned.

Cracks in the Bell may be imperfect, and some may be forgettable, but they are a crack, nonetheless.

BJSchaefer
Column Name: Nothing Is New
Perspective: libertarian

Nothing is New is a current events column written from the libertarian perspective.  Staying informed, right along with being properly educated, is essential in democracy or republics.  Hardly anything that's done today is "new", it only seems that way because we didn't know it before.

Bob Nightingale
Column Name: Rather Be Free
Perspective: libertarian

Since I started writing here regularly (a.k.a DigitalBob), I've had the opportunity galvanize what I believe.  I have written a series of opinion pieces highlighting the hypocrisy of how we are governed contrasted with words and intent of the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.  These are the anchors of our way of life.  Too often they are ignored or substituted with competing ideologies.

With my words here, I rise in objection to those who would drag this country in the direction of tyranny and socialism.  The best decisions are made at the lowest levels of government, and the smallest unit of government is the individual.  We need to pay our bills, keep our promises, and not enslave our children with today's public debt.

Brian Hatfield
Column Name: Real Change
Perspective: libertarian

Articles back with many mainstream sources

Brian Irving
Column Name: Liberty Points
Perspective: libertarian

This column is about practical and principled politics for libertarian.

Libertarians can engage in practical politics without compromising our principles — and we should — because just by doing so, we can change the debate, impact the political process far greater than our numbers might otherwise allow, educate people about our ideas, and advance the cause of liberty.

Brooklyn
Column Name: The Hard Truth
Perspective: libertarian

I believe the United States is slowly becoming a more contemporary version of that written about in books such as 1984, Brave New World and Fahrenheit 451 and this needs to be stopped.  My column seeks to present an unvarnished, unabashed viewpoint on various issues.  If it is politically incorrect, that is because the thought of considering political correctness never crossed my mind.  If it is abrasive, that is because the truth is often harsh.  I call it as I see it.

Bruce West
Column Name: Bruce's Rant
Perspective: libertarian

Viewpoints and opinions from a working man's perspective.

My column includes my own personal opinions of items I see in the news everyday.   Items which I always wanted to comment on, didn't.

I have always enjoyed watching people and evaluating their actions, desires, interests and ambitions which guide them through life and make them who they are.   Hopefully my column will include the observations from my life on the shop floor and the time which I have spent with common people.   Hopefully, the common person will grow to enjoy my rants.

Cap'n Stubbs
Column Name: Restore America
Perspective: libertarian

Anything to do with restoring America's origional values of freedom, liberty, and prosperity.

Carl Buschmann
Column Name: In Search of Freedom
Perspective: libertarian

This column will be used to voice my opinion on many subjects concerning we citizens and the effects of current politics of government on our diminishing freedoms and what will have to be done for we the people of The United States of America to reverse this direction and become truly free.

My fervent hope is that maybe,  just maybe, this contribution may help add to the knowledge that awakening citizens in this country will need to change the direction this country is going in.

I do not wish to see this country become part of a one world order with slavery and injustice to all.

Carol O
Column Name: Carol O
Perspective: Centrist Libertarian

Democrat voting for Obama

Carter Brown
Column Name: on another note...
Perspective: libertarian

I tend not take a conservative or liberal stance on topics, my articles are based on fact, and not on political opinion. In short my philosophy is "whatever works, works, and whatever doesn't, doesn't". Our society faces grave challenges and we need practical solutions to them.

Chad_Underdonk
Column Name: Rage against the Machine
Perspective: libertarian

Spreading the ideas of liberty, one mind at a time.

Charles Platt
Column Name: Reality Check
Perspective: libertarian

Libertarians tend to be idealists. This is an admirable trait yet can be self defeating in the short term. I believe that in order to achieve any of our goals, we have to be realistic about the skepticism and inertia of the general public. It took me years to let go of the political ideas that I grew up with. Others, likewise, may require time to accept the libertarian point of view. Patience is essential. An incremental approach is the only one that I believe is practical.

Christopher Billings
Column Name: Speaking The Truth
Perspective: libertarian

I'm tired enough of the idiocy I see in politics, to step up and speak the truth.

Christopher Waltz
Column Name: A Letter to Sean Hannity
Perspective: libertarian

I only caught about fifteen minutes of Sean Hannity's radio show, on 1/31/08, but that fifteen minutes really made a huge impression on me.

In these fifteen minutes, Sean was attempting to make a point by stating that John McCain was 'liberal,' to which, I agree with Sean, completely.  He then goes on to make an arguement that if it was down to a two-man race (Romney and McCain), on the Republican side, he could see a swing, by the voters, to the more conservative Mitt Romney.  Again, I agree with Sean Hannity.  But where Sean, Rush, Fox News, other MSM and pundits have made a major mistake is that they continued to dismiss, discredit and laugh at Ron Paul.  They ignored and marginalized a true, patriotic, conservative candidate.  A candidate that stood by Ronald Reagan, in 1976, when the rest of the Republican field backed a more 'liberal' candidate.  (Sound familiar?) Ron Paul, a candidate that upholds the same conservative principles that Reagan pushed to the fore-front of the conservative movement.  You, Sean, laughed at Ron Paul and his supporters and now you want Dr. Paul (and Mike Huckabee) to drop out so that "true" conservatives would be forced to go out and vote for Mitt Romney?  It is far too late for that, Mr. Hannity.

I, along with many other Ron Paul supporters, will go out and vote for Ron Paul, in the Primaries.  I, along with many other Ron Paul supporters, will vote for him in the General Election, regardless if Ron Paul's on the ballot or not.  Because I, along with many other disgruntled voters, am sick of voting for the "lesser of two evils."  We, THE PEOPLE, are noticing the way you, Fox News, and the rest of the MSM use your power of manipulation and propoganda to promote, or, in the case of Dr. Ron Paul, dismiss and limit the coverage of support for our candidate.

http://www.charlotteconservative.com/index.php/2008/01/hannity-bans-ron-paul/

How is that free speech, Sean?

We will be casting our votes for Ron Paul as a protest vote to your manipulations.  A vote against the way the media neglects the truth and reports the facts the way they see it; not the way it truely appears.  And if that means we, the Ron Paul supporters, hand the Republican nomination to John McCain, so be it.  If that means a Democrat becomes the President, so be it.  Because it will NOT be said that a truely conservative, freedom-loving, anti-big government, non-intervention group of people did not stand up to the establishment,...to the strains of big government and to the slow erosion of our civil liberties.

If you wanted our votes, Sean (as well as Romney or McCain), you should not have laughed at the core of individuals that still want to uphold the Constitution and promote the ideals of Reaganism.  You should have given Ron Paul a chance...a "Fair and Balanced" chance.  You have no one to blame but yourself!

Cincinnatus Cain
Column Name: Out of Phase
Perspective: Centrist Libertarian

I'm a young, liberal political afficianado. As part of an increasingly important segment of society, but just barely too young to vote in the next election, I can at least present views and analysis so that I might have some influence. The column's name refers to my upbringing. As a Portland, Oregon resident, many of my views seem concrete around town, but obviously are out of sync with other parts of the USA. We'll see how they mix.

Column Name: First Principles
Perspective: Centrist Libertarian

Colette von Hessen
Column Name: The Pursuit of Happiness
Perspective: conservative libertarian

Constitutional Activist, Phil Pepin
Column Name: Constitutional Activist
Perspective: libertarian

This column will be about sharing the things I've learned and what I believe are some of the solutions for restoring America back to a Constitution Republic. I will also be promoting a political philosophy known as Constitutional Activism. Those involved often referred to themselves as constitutionalists. I believe what has been called conservatism is effectively irrelevant because no one really has a definition of what a true conservative is. Modern conservatism has a fatal flaw it's defensive in nature. America is no longer a Constitutional Republic that protects the rights of the individual. America has become a quasi-socialist military empire. The Federal Government regulates virtually every aspect of our lives way beyond the limited power enumerated in the constitution. There really is little to conserve or defend, we need to take back what has been lost. That is the heart of constitutional activism.

Craig Chilton
Column Name: Just the Facts.
Perspective: centrist

Presents views generally regarded as socially-liberal, but I prefer the term, "egalitarian," in defense of a wide range of  personal liberties.  From the standpoint of being a mainstream and fair-minded mainstream Protestant Christian.  Vis-a-vis, in most cases, the stances and agendas of the religious right.  In so doing, I will present many solid facts to back my arguments.  Hence, the name I have chosen for the column.

Dan Steward
Column Name: With Liberty
Perspective: libertarian

A midwestern Libertarian's take on current events from a free-market perspective. I believe in a 100% voluntary "society" based entirely on peaceful interactions with all and total elimination of force as the primary motivation for all such interactions.

Any goods or services we enjoy in life can be provided to us (if needed & more importantly asked for) by such a voluntary means and without government involvement in any way. All governments throughout history have been proven never to work.

Humankind may only be free absent the state.

Del Sharp
Column Name: Constitutional Conservative
Perspective: libertarian

Although Nolan Charts identifies me as a top-of-the-point, Libertarian, I consider myself a constitutional conservative and my columns are written from that perspective.

In my view, the founding fathers were inspired men and that is why our founding document has survived 200+ years of whittling by leftists.

For me, the Nolan Chart, even with it's shortcomings, serves a useful purpose in establishing a starting point for discussion.

The American Constitution is a marvel of political engineering, more a work of art than a prescription for drafting laws. And yet perfect as it was in its day, it is now in need of shoring up to allow it to cope with the challenges of today. Clever men designed it, and today clever men abuse it. This column will not advocate trashing the Constitution and starting over, but amending it here and there as was originally provided for under Article Five.

We are in the advanced stages of a slide into a socialist environment through a series of a preplanned economic, and social crisis. Ron Paul is playing his cards like a Texas Hold'em... And is his card game is working. Don't think that the old guard (neocon fascists) in the Republican Party haven't taken notice. The experiment was first brought to life over 220 years ago by 55 enlightened men and the results of their thunder are truly inspirational. Their experiment, the Federalist Republic, must be revived and the words read in this column will be but a humble attempt to shine the light on our world from a U.S. Constitutional perspective.

Jesus told us to be good neighbors -- to do for them what we would have them do to us. These are things we teach kids in nurseries: keep your hands to yourself and tell the truth. It doesn't matter what relationships we're involved in, the rules are the same: don't touch people's bodies or property without permission, and don't tell lies to or about them. To the degree that a society obeys those rules, its people are free from assault, theft, fraud, and slander. Absent those threats, people can live together in peace and prosperity.

Wrong. It always works. This column is designed to show how and why.

Jim Morrison once told us "You're all a bunch of f#cking slaves." He was right: WE are all a bunch of slaves ...primarily because of our persistent efforts to persuade ourselves that we are "free" in utter defiance of the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Our lack of freedom is the inevitable consequence of our lust for power ...a lust which is all too frequently the product of our belief that we can regain our freedom by securing power over others.

Like Aesop's proverbial dog ...there is no greater threat to our own liberty than our own jealousy for the liberties and property of others and our determination to have power over them.

My hope is to write articles exploring this insidious tendency within each of us in the hope that we might have a better chance of learning to avoid it.

Perspective: conservative libertarian

In the period leading up to the American Revolution, colonists gathered under a great elm tree in Boston to rally together against the tyranny of their mother country. After the passage of the infamous Stamp Act, the Sons of Liberty hung the effigies of two tax collectors from the tree. From that day on the elm was known as the Liberty Tree and served as a meeting place for protests against tyrannical government.

This column serves as a symbolic Liberty Tree and calls upon today's Sons of Liberty to rise up as our firebrand progenitors and resist all those who dare to tread on liberty, justice and the rights bestowed upon all men by almighty God.

Column Name: Yet Another Champion of the Constitution

The motto for this column is "Veritas numquam perit. Veritas odit moras. Veritas vincit." Truth never perishes. Truth hates delay. Truth conquers.

"Truth is Treason in the Empire of Lies." - Dr. Ron Paul, The Revolution: A Manifesto, 2008.

The column seeks truth in the ecopolitical arena, with the primary goals of helping to bring the "War on Terror" to an end and a new dawn of Honest Money. The Constitution is a recurrent theme as this is the current ratified contract between We the People and the United States Government. Easily read by laymen 200 years later, this document limits the powers of government and can be changed by We the People. If abided by, We the People would have Honest Money and the "War on Terror" simply would not exist.

It is up to the Reader to decide whether to agree with my version of freedom. To freely dissent or to educate me are the two gifts I cherish most from the Reader.

"I bring reason to your ears, and, in language as plain as A, B, C, hold up truth to your eyes... I fear not. I see no real cause for fear. I know our situation well, and can see the way out of it." - Thomas Paine, The American Crisis, 1776

This column is based on the fact that life IS a risk. If every one of your thoughts and actions were dictated by someone else, you might just as well be replaced by a robot. Why live at all under those conditions? The more decisions you make for yourself, the more sense it makes for you to be alive. Whether your life is a series of tests laid out for you from God, or whether your life is just the outcome of random chance, YOU need to be in charge of it for it to have full meaning. You can abdicate your right to control your own life, but don’t abdicate that right for the rest of us.

To have meaning in your life, you need to be able to make you own decisions; to make your own mistakes; to decide your own risks. This column defends your right to take risks. Therefore, this column defends your life.

As a Ron Paul supporter and someone who wants to return government to the constitutional limits I am encouraged by the support of the message of freedom. Americans want to be free. Over the last few months, I\'ve had conversations and read emails from strong supporters of Obama and John McCain. Deep down inside, I\'ve felt it, they know something is wrong. Don\'t get me wrong, they support their republicrat choice and if I were like them I would too. Its tough to decide which candidate will make the right decisions on what to do with your money, how to raise your kids and when to take away your privacy. Every American knows that there has to be a better way. Because of Ron Paul a revolution has started to return to that better way. A way William Wallace best described in one word, FREEDOM.

To continue this march towards our freedom we must choose a successor to Ron Paul that will get enough support to get into the debates and be strong enough to win them. This candidate must foremost be unwavering in the message of freedom and liberty to all Americans. But we can\'t just pick anyone. We need to be strategic.

First Step- Picking a party

Two parties share the message of liberty and limited government, the Libertarian Party and the Constitutional Party. While I agree with a good portion of the Constitutional\'s parties platform, I believe the platform alienates voters that aren\'t Christians and has no realistic chance of making a serious national impact, let alone a revolution. So, that leaves the very sound Libertarian Party platform.

Second Step- Picking a candidate

Many think that the big household name is the way to go. But, just because a person is well known doesn\'t mean he is well liked, hence Bob Barr. Also, the Libertarian Party is getting way more attention than ever before as over a million Ron Paul voters look for a candidate that meets there views. Lets immediately scratch Mike Gravel\'s name of the list of potential candidates as he is a big government socialist just using the Libertarian Party for ballot access. My next point is key and I know many won\'t agree because I am playing identity politics, but I believe we should choose a woman. Think about it, once Hillary loses, which she will, where do you think those votes go? Close to half of Hillary\'s supporters say they won\'t vote for Obama and I can\'t see many Hillary supporters voting for McCain, who Hillary said would just be a third term for George Bush. Many Hillary supporters picked her as their candidate because of Identity politics. We know this because they could have just as easily supported Obama who is running a campaign identical on all the issues. So between Ron Paul supporters, Hillary\'s rejects and the Libertarian Party itself there is a nice base of support to spread the message of freedom to the half of the nation that stopped voting because they were disenfranchised by our war starting, socialism-lite style government.

And Then There Were Two.

Christine Smith and Mary Ruwart are the only candidates that fit this strategic plan for a Revolution. I looked into each of these candidates extensively and in Mary Ruwart I found an exploitable weakness like the death star but much easier to attack. Mary Ruwart is against the outlawing of Child Pornography.

In her words:

"Children who willingly participate in sexual acts have the right to make that decision as well, even if it’s distasteful to us personally. Some children will make for choice is just as some adults do in smoking and drinking to excess; this is part of life.

What we outlaw child pornography, if the prices paid for child performers rise, increasing the incentives for parents to use children against their will."

This would never fly with me or the American public. She is not for Liberty, she is for Anarchy. She is a self-proclaimed Anarchist.

So that leaves us with Christine Smith, who I am covering last but she is definitely not the least. I have decided that I believe she is the absolute best choice to serve as the successor to Ron Paul in leading this revolution into the White House. Most Ron Paul supporters haven\'t yet decided on whom to support. They are waiting for something. There is no more time to wait. We need to be proactive. Christine Smith is a candidate that represents our ideals and I believe has the best chance to actually win this election.

Is this a true Revolution? Do you really believe it is? Then we can take the White House this year. We just need to be smart, enthusiastic, hard workers at spreading the message of freedom. The smartest choice for us to do that with is Christine Smith for President.

I urge everyone reading this to check out her site (http://libertarianforpresident.com), watch some of the videos, read her points. She needs the help of the grassroots. We now have only 2 weeks to show the Libertarian Party who the Revolution wants as their nominee.

John Kusumi
Column Name: Practical Idealist Revival
Perspective: centrist liberal

First use of the term 'practical idealism' in a presidential race was by this author in 1984 - to name a platform in an independent campaign for the White House.

More recently, Al Gore and Condoleeza Rice have tried to name their views 'practical idealism,' but those attempts did not resonate nor stick. The author likens that to New Coke.

In this column, the author will remember and extend the politics of practical idealism -- developed as a teenager in Generation X, reminding us what politics look like when they are not bought-and-paid-for.

"Enough is enough of New Coke. I'll give you classic practical idealism, when I can squeeze out a new column."

Larry Ward
Column Name: Government in Exile
Perspective: libertarian

We need to form a new union and act as a government in exile to provide for our mutual defense in the coming storm and to launch projects that produce real weath and opportunity to sustain us as the economy collapses.

Our government in exile needs offers, selected by some kind of plebesite. The internet allows us all to participate in the making of our laws and policies.  We need a web facility to host thoughtful and orderly deliberation and debate and empower citizens of our cyber space government in exile to decide on our laws and policies after the debate.  This virtual legislature needs also to select leaders.

Kudos to Nolan Chart.  At this time, it serves rather well as a free press.  I hope it will grow in its policies and facilities as our government in exile grows in unity and strength.

Our government in exile needs a president to preside over and coordinate the many actions of our government in exile.  It needs other officers as well.  Among those other officers it needs an attorney general to file Pro Se (that is lawyer free) suits in Federal Court.  It needs creative executive power for actions that are approved by the membership- real actions, not just cheer leading pep rallies.

Our government in exile is the minority party at present.  But as the establishment regime collapses under the weight of its own absurdity, the people will turn to our sane model of government and restore us to power to restore liberty and the Constitution  to the seat of government in American government, life and law.

Logical Premise
Column Name: The Logical Premise to the Normal Extension
Perspective: statist

I am, by nature, someone who dislikes both hyperbole and insipid modesty. There are a myriad of problems with this country, and to suggest or imply one particular approach will magically make things "better" is to either imply that the average American is very naive or is too busy in his or her conspicious consumption (or starving on the street) to pay attention to the Wizard behind the curtain.

I will consider the positions of candiates, based only off of what I find on their official sites, and comment upon them. My race, sex, religous affiliation, personal beliefs, and party of choice do not really matter. I am a statist.

Statism is the belief that the only form of government that makes sense is one that involves significant centralized government intervention in personal, social and/or economic matters.

I happen to believe in that. I believe in it for a number of reasons, most importantly because people are not smart. I do not belive in morality, I do not belive in the conventional wisdom, and I most certainly do not belive in the idea that the common man is somehow our touch stone. I am an eliteist in the manner after that of William Henry III.

Teddy Roosevelt once said, "To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."  I also believe that extends to our Congress and the inner workings of the United States government.  If people do not speak out against what they see is wrong, they are just as bad as those who perpetrate it.  Elected officials work for you and not the other way around.

Believing that we actually do live in a universe that can be examined by reason and reveals consistent truths, we will search for a unified perspective, a world view, that integrates and makes sense of significant issues in any area of discourse.

Realizing also that each of us is finite and limited in our grasp of reality, we intend to mediate views that conflict by encouraging dialogue among viewpoints. However, although we believe the truth will not contradict reason, we submit that truth may at times transcend our reason, and is not restricted to mere naturalism.

Since I am adamantly anti-globalist, my immediate contributions will be intended to garner support for Ron Paul--it is easy to understand that my current endeavor of priority is to promote Dr. Ron Paul, Republican candidate for President in 2008.  I find that I also stand in agreement with what he has said, written and promulgated to date about all other issues.

Since I am also adamantly Christian, my contributions will sometimes contain a Biblical perspective to personal, national and world issues as merited.

Since I am also adamantly opposed to genetic engineering, cloning and the new field of bio-technology's current  trespass into realms where man ought not to trespass, I will on occasion express my views on these matters.

Basic and principle matters of economics and how they can deliver prosperity or poverty, depending on who controls them and how they exercise this control, has been an ongoing concern and interest of mine for over three decades now...

This is my "Living in a Changing World" column. I was inspired to start writing because of the movement the world is making towards an internet-based information age, where any person with an opinion and a dial-up connection can project his voice into the world. No longer do companies and corporations control the information we recieve in our households...

Observing this movement has inspired me to be a part of it. And so, I present to you my very first news column. Here I will discuss current events, mostly political, and I will give my opinions and views on it. I will do my best to present the most unbiased information I can collect, and to give a fair and balanced judgement on them. I will try to find ways to link the changing world today to other information-based revolutions that have occured in the past, in order to put things into perspective and to find the right thing to do. And so this is my column.

Column Name: Bottom Drawer
Perspective: libertarian

My column will be old, dusty, cob-webby, yellowed, moth-eaten, dog-eared bits and pieces from the bottom drawer of my file cabinet that are relevant to today's freedom struggle. I've been a libertarian all of my adult life (I'm 61); was a co-founder and an officer of the Ohio Libertarian Party with Kay Harroff and others in 1972; ran against Dan Burton for Congress (Indiana 6th district) in 1986; voted Libertarian in almost all races; and campaigned heavily for Ron Paul.

Another reason for the title, "Bottom Drawer", is that I am  unknown, unpublished, undegreed and uncredentialed. I am far from being "top drawer" as far as pedigree, but I have served in the trenches, am battle-scarred, battle-hardened and still fighting. I believe a purpose is served by those with war experience as well as those with the credentials. The revolution needs us both.

This column presents five kinds of evidence:

  1. Illegal government use of ballots to "defeat the franchise"

  3. Reasons for judicial opinions on ballots used to defeat the franchise.
  4. Wide confusion as to the rights and duties of people and governments.
  5. Media propaganda that maintains the above confusion.

I believe such evidence is relevant to all voters, whatever our Nolan chart classes, but how many will admit it? Most people are too busy and just acquiesce. I want to arouse readers with questions such as: Can we change acquiescence into public action? How?

"Feet On the Ground" is a column on current economic issues. It steers clear of economic ideologies and dogmas. However, the author does believe that the Government has a role in the economic system that runs in the society it represents. The most important role is to prevent annihilation of the system while getting the best deal for society as a whole. A hands-off approach to a dangerous bubble burst is not supported, rather a managed deflation of the same when possible, so malinvestment is liquidated and Capital reallocated by an assisted, and now wiser, market mechanism.

Religion and politics don't mix, they say, but have you noticed how there are absolutley no areas of life left that are not affected by politics? Even the tax-exempt status of churches and ministries is held in check by politics. As long as these 'religious' institutions do not offend the 'political' powers that be, it is live and let live. I am not afraid to proclaim that my faith informs my worldview and my politics. It is for this reason i have chosen to write out my views and opinions as an individual and not as the head of a 'religious organization.'

In the current debates on the "limits" of democratic development in Taiwan, and how far the US government should go in "supporting" Taiwan's participation in international organizations, two crucial facts are always overlooked: (1) Taiwan has never been incorporated into the territory of the Republic of China, and (2) there is a coherent argument under US constitutional law to say that Taiwan is actually a overseas territory under the jurisdiction of the United States.  This column will use many different angles and perspectives to investigate the truth of Taiwan's status in the world today.

Column Name: A Word From the Kitchen
Perspective: libertarian

Be it gun control, education, parenting, or religion - the home is never immune from the issues faced by our nation. In a global community, "Not In My Back Yard" is no longer an excuse for apathy. The proverbial "back yard" is as close as our Internet connection. The Internet is part of our living space and can be viewed everywhere from our cell phones to the family room to the bedroom.

This column represents the viewpoint of, yes, a wife and a mother who happens to spend a lot of time in the kitchen. I care about the world around me especially because I know that it will ultimately affect everyday life. (If you don't think this is true, try taking a diaper bag stocked with bare necessities for your baby onto an airplane!)

In addition to believing in the importance of citizen awareness, I also believe that it is the obligation of the citizens to help maintain a system of checks and balances. Sometimes this means exercising the right we still have to attend a community meeting, to go door to door to recommend a Presidential candidate, or to participate in a protest march instead of exercising the right to sleep in on a Saturday morning.

On one hand, the home is affected by what goes on in the surrounding world. On the other hand, the home is also the place where families are cared for, nourished, and equipped to face the world. This is what I strive for in my home, and this is the message I hope shines from my kitchen to the rest of the humanity.

It should be an interesting convention.

Seneca
Column Name: The Matrix of History
Perspective: conservative libertarian

It is symptomatic of the role of History-writing (sanitized historiography) that in every history textbook that exists (either past or present) in the United States (but in other countries to a degree also) - the focus of a series of history books whose topics are "in vogue" or "the focus of debates" - is always on things that have no deep relevance to the contemporary political actuality and what drives it! - but always on politically-safe topics of yesteryears. Example, one will find assembly line book publishing that serves the role of filling bookshelves with safe topics on .... e.g. "(Mercantilist) Slavery", "French Revolution", "Russian Revolution", "Female Suffrage Act", "Kennedy Presidency", "USSR", etc., etc. but a precious little (by comparison) on factors that make the present World-situation what it is.

For this very reason - American Plantation-Slavery (a muscle energy-source exploitation) in the USA was removed only at that historical point at which it could be safely replaced as the engine of industrialism by coal as a newer and more powerful energy-source. And paper-mills of establishment historians unfazed keep safely churning up historically-meaningless regurgitations on the evils of Slavery once this institution no longer serves any practical purposes for the "powers that be." This kind of writing is always several steps behind actuality.

My column will explain ongoing events with respect to their deeply symbolic and also historically-evidenced meaning, probing deeply into the Past to understand the Future. Comparisons, using historical analogies and homologies, will be the yardstick, the key tool of this critical analysis of political events - with hard historical facts as the foundation.

My column is rooted in an approach to and understanding of the World that is essentially ethically Socialist - in the same necessary meaning in which Dr. Oswald Spengler first defined it in his far-reaching lecture "Prussianism and Socialism." There is no practiced Western philosophy of Life (and the one that would have emerged as that, as the guiding light of a late urbanized West-European-American Civilization is missing - unlike that which happened to other proud humanities of History - recall Buddhism, Stoicism, Sufism, Confucianism). I propose that modern proletarian lifestye, aka age of the consumer, killed the very possibility. Still, there are systematic philophies in the West - popular with academicians - which are inapplicable to the World at large and have no formative living value for the youth.

My column will present everything in the light of a missing final philosophy fitting for the Western historical Spirit..

"The inward Form of significant Life which, unaware and unobserved, inspires every thought and every action."

- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Furthermore, the bottom baseline of my column is the all-important distinction in Life between being and seeming to be, the difference of an understanding of Life (History in form for activities) that is theoretical from an understanding of Life that is actual.

As poet Ovidius noted: "PARVA LEVES CAPIUNT ANIMOS" ('insignificant spirits are won over by petty acts') - one can conversely say that petty happenings must be sifted out of the World-picture presented by History-proper in order to establish what is significant from whaty isn't. Moderm Media is extremely unhelpful in this regard.

"Historic is that which is, or has been, effective....Only through historical treatment does the individual process, lifted by History from among the infinite mass of contemporary processes, become the historic event."

- Dr. Eduard Meyer of Berlin University

Simplicity is a virtue. Simple rules can be explained, understood, remembered, followed, and enforced. We see this when we try to explain the "adult" world to children--they see through hypocrisy. In simplicity there is beauty and truth:  simple designs lead to machines that fly reliably , and simple constitutions and simple laws lead to prosperous societies. Simple rules allow self-organization, paradoxically leading to complexity in outcomes. Complex rules that cannot be followed lead to stagnation, as in the Soviet Union. Despite the evidence, many people distrust simplicity: they call it "reductionism", and say it cannot handle the  complexity of modern life. Their failed counter-examples are valuable.

The most important simplest rule is that governing force: it should be used only in self-defense, and even then in only the minimum amount, no exceptions.

"I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!"- Barry Goldwater

There is a shortage of liberty in today's world. Are you looking for solutions? If I know many of you, then yes. The last vessel of freedom left is the internet. It is a medium of answers.  But too often, the writer population here has neglected actual discussion or pursuing any action. Uncouth bloggers preaching to the choir at its best. The perennial "anti-state" articles frequent the top of the Chart. What else is new? Opinions passed off as fact. Fiction masquerading as truth. And it is all too comfortable not to deny this flood.

But you can be damn sure of one thing: not all columnists here ring the same tired and cracked bell. While you may not always agree, I will always leave you a suggestion for a new course of action. But the rest is up to you. Brought to you by idealism.

I wish to discus the obvious issues, those that our government and the current Presidential candidates seem to "glaze over", or create their "canned answers" in an effort to keep the masses with them, regardless of the realitiy of the facts.

I hope to influence others to revisit their common sense (assuming of course, that they had visited it in the first place). Common sense is something that most of us seem to have forgotton, or we would not vote to place our government  in its current situation. I hope to get some number of voters to again start thinking about their own responsibility to vote to govern themselves rather than remaining relagated to their current "sheep mentality".

Column Name: Perfect Political Storm
Perspective: libertarian

My column is simply a series of facts and my own conclusions or suggestions. I plan to argue that America is not only ready for a third party uprising, but desperately in need of it. For far too long, the two-party duopoly has moved us in the wrong direction, leading us to ever-bigger government with all of the corruption it brings, exactly as our Founding Fathers warned us that it would.

Not everybody will agree with me on every point that I make, but I'm hoping to at least convey my thoughts in a manner that provokes those who read into thinking. I would like people to think about the numerous laws that attempt to snuff out any real, free exchange of ideas. I want to make people see that there's no such thing as a wasted vote, or a "spoiler" in an election.

Many of my articles will refer to Ron Paul, Bob Barr, or the Libertarian platform, others will be about the major candidates, the status quo, and why we need more alternatives.

Column Name: Wake Up, America!
Perspective: libertarian

The name of this column should be self-explanatory. I believe American society is in deep trouble. While many Americans are indeed waking up, they are not doing so in numbers sufficient to make a difference. As a trained political philosopher (I have a Ph.D.) I work under a number of assumptions. First, there is a minority in any population whose members are fascinated by power, and will do anything to obtain and increase it. Most common people have little or no interest in power for itself, and this places them at a disadvantage. "The price of liberty is eternal vigilance," says Thomas Jefferson. He was right. We need to build up, shore up, and to the greatest extent possible increase the size of a vigilant minority to a critical mass. The Ron Paul Revolution has made it possible to do this; the key is going to be for this grassroots movement to hold together and forge itself into a serious opposition to the gathering forces of globalism and corporatist-statism if liberty is to survive in America. The alternative is what we have seen during the years especially since the 9/11 attacks: more and more Congressional legislation, Executive Branch statements, and secretive gatherings of power elites (e.g., the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America). The former are taking us closer and closer to a domestic police state; the latter are moving slowly toward dissolving all national borders in our hemisphere in a fashion similar to what has been done to the formerly sovereign nations of the increasingly sovietized European Union.

Wake up, America!

The writing is on the wall and Ron Paul isn't going to win.  The power of the Internet alone isn't enough to get a candidate the White House ... yet.

Does that mean you should hang up your hat, crack open a beer, and forget about the election?  Absolutely not!  I think the Martin Luther King money bomb is a great idea.  The idea is getting out there and it's spreading.  A lot of people like the idea, but it's still new and frightening.  The MSM still has a lot of power, but their power is dwindling.  We haven't died, yet.

Realistically, however, we have to realize that Ron Paul isn't going to win the Republican nomination.  I don't know if he's going to go for a third party run, but I doubt it and I hope not.  Just like Ronald Reagan, who ran in 1976 and didn't win, Ron Paul has a good chance in 2012.

That is, he has a good chance against a Democratic president.  If there's a Republican incumbent we can bet our last dollar that he won't win the primary again.

Ron Paul has a list of supporters that are fired up about his ideas.  These people can easily shape local and state contests as well.  I am interested to see how Ron Paul's endorsement can affect House and Senate races.

The fight has just gotten started, but we need to be in it for the long haul.  Stay organized, get in touch with other Ron Paul supporters, and let the decentralized system continue to do its magic.  It's the best way.

The Planned Destruction Of The Constitution, And Then The Government. The current mission of George Bush! The “Law” And The Constitution--Remember This: Sixteenth American Jurisprudence, Second Edition, Section 177. " The general misconceptions is that any statute passed by legislators bearing the appearance of law constitutes the law of the land. Contrarily: The U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of the land, and any statute, to be valid, must be in agreement. It is impossible for both the Constitution and a law violating it to be valid; one must prevail. This is succinctly stated as follows: the general rule is that an unconstitutional statute, though having the form and name of law, is in reality no law, but is wholly void, and ineffective for any purpose. Since unconstitutionality dates from the time of its enactment, and not merely from the date of the decision so branding it, an unconstitutional law, in legal contemplation, is as inoperative as if it had never been passed. Such a statute leaves the question that it purports to settle just as it would be had the statue not been enacted. Since an unconstitutional law is void, the general principles follow that it imposes no duties, confers no rights, creates no office, bestows no authority on anyone, affords no protection, and justifies no acts performed under it. A void act cannot be legally consistent with a valid one. An unconstitutional law cannot operate to supersede any existing valid law. Indeed, insofar as a statue runs counter to the fundamental law of the land, it is superseded thereby. No one is bound to obey an unconstitutional law and no courts are bound to enforcement it."
