Q13. Why don't you offer a thumbs down option?
The main reason is that a thumbs down option is really just
a lazy way to initiate an ad hominem (personal) attack. People
who want a thumbs down button are really saying, "I don't like
what the author is saying, so I think I'll just show them disrespect
instead of taking the time to actually write a reasonable reader
comment or an article to explain why I think they're wrong."
There is too much negativity in politics as it is. We don't
want to encourage it further. Instead, we want to encourage you
to become columnists and write your own articles from your
point of view, or take the time to leave a reader comment on the
article and explain why you disagree with it. It's too easy
and destructive to give a thumbs down, and it's much more
constructive to lay out in detail your own opinions for others
to consider.
