Inside the RNC 2008
by Scott King Walker (libertarian)
About The Author
I am a Christian and a conservative, who has drifted more and more "libertarian" as I have watched the Federal Government consume more and more our money and God-given rights to fuel its growth. In the 2008 primary, I supported Ron Paul. Fellow Ron Paul supporters, plus my passionate convention speech in favor of smaller government were just enough to secure my spot as 3rd alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention from Virginia's 10th District. This will be my first Republican National Convention.
About The Column
This is my insider's view of the 2008 Republican National Convention, written by a first time attendee. The Republicans clearly cannot win this race without the "just leave us alone" crowd to whom the Republicans mostly only paid lip service. Many have already abandoned the Republican party in their hearts, even as they have continued to support it with their votes. This feels like the year that this is going to change. Either the Republicans return to their roots, or the people abandon them and the Republicans go the way of the Whigs. It should be an interesting convention.
