About The Column
As a Ron Paul supporter and someone who wants to return government to the constitutional limits I am encouraged by the support of the message of freedom. Americans want to be free. Over the last few months, I\'ve had conversations and read emails from strong supporters of Obama and John McCain. Deep down inside, I\'ve felt it, they know something is wrong. Don\'t get me wrong, they support their republicrat choice and if I were like them I would too. Its tough to decide which candidate will make the right decisions on what to do with your money, how to raise your kids and when to take away your privacy. Every American knows that there has to be a better way. Because of Ron Paul a revolution has started to return to that better way. A way William Wallace best described in one word, FREEDOM. To continue this march towards our freedom we must choose a successor to Ron Paul that will get enough support to get into the debates and be strong enough to win them. This candidate must foremost be unwavering in the message of freedom and liberty to all Americans. But we can\'t just pick anyone. We need to be strategic. First Step- Picking a party Two parties share the message of liberty and limited government, the Libertarian Party and the Constitutional Party. While I agree with a good portion of the Constitutional\'s parties platform, I believe the platform alienates voters that aren\'t Christians and has no realistic chance of making a serious national impact, let alone a revolution. So, that leaves the very sound Libertarian Party platform. Second Step- Picking a candidate Many think that the big household name is the way to go. But, just because a person is well known doesn\'t mean he is well liked, hence Bob Barr. Also, the Libertarian Party is getting way more attention than ever before as over a million Ron Paul voters look for a candidate that meets there views. Lets immediately scratch Mike Gravel\'s name of the list of potential candidates as he is a big government socialist just using the Libertarian Party for ballot access. My next point is key and I know many won\'t agree because I am playing identity politics, but I believe we should choose a woman. Think about it, once Hillary loses, which she will, where do you think those votes go? Close to half of Hillary\'s supporters say they won\'t vote for Obama and I can\'t see many Hillary supporters voting for McCain, who Hillary said would just be a third term for George Bush. Many Hillary supporters picked her as their candidate because of Identity politics. We know this because they could have just as easily supported Obama who is running a campaign identical on all the issues. So between Ron Paul supporters, Hillary\'s rejects and the Libertarian Party itself there is a nice base of support to spread the message of freedom to the half of the nation that stopped voting because they were disenfranchised by our war starting, socialism-lite style government. And Then There Were Two. Christine Smith and Mary Ruwart are the only candidates that fit this strategic plan for a Revolution. I looked into each of these candidates extensively and in Mary Ruwart I found an exploitable weakness like the death star but much easier to attack. Mary Ruwart is against the outlawing of Child Pornography. In her words: "Children who willingly participate in sexual acts have the right to make that decision as well, even if it’s distasteful to us personally. Some children will make for choice is just as some adults do in smoking and drinking to excess; this is part of life. What we outlaw child pornography, if the prices paid for child performers rise, increasing the incentives for parents to use children against their will." This would never fly with me or the American public. She is not for Liberty, she is for Anarchy. She is a self-proclaimed Anarchist. So that leaves us with Christine Smith, who I am covering last but she is definitely not the least. I have decided that I believe she is the absolute best choice to serve as the successor to Ron Paul in leading this revolution into the White House. Most Ron Paul supporters haven\'t yet decided on whom to support. They are waiting for something. There is no more time to wait. We need to be proactive. Christine Smith is a candidate that represents our ideals and I believe has the best chance to actually win this election. Is this a true Revolution? Do you really believe it is? Then we can take the White House this year. We just need to be smart, enthusiastic, hard workers at spreading the message of freedom. The smartest choice for us to do that with is Christine Smith for President. I urge everyone reading this to check out her site (http://libertarianforpresident.com), watch some of the videos, read her points. She needs the help of the grassroots. We now have only 2 weeks to show the Libertarian Party who the Revolution wants as their nominee.
