Election 08' and the federal reserve
by Mark William Campbell (Libertarian)
About The Author
Hi, i'm Mark Campbell, i'm 21 from Scotland and I have had libertarian ideas for many years and have now been inspired to share them.
Scotland has the Scottish national Party, Scottish New Labour, The Conservative Party, The Liberal Democrats, The Scottish Socialist Party, The Green Party and others. None of which are even talking about central banking. Our choices are between staying with the UK or moving towards 'independance'. The independance we are offered is a sham, it is nationalism and statism with nothing different than a gently racist kicking out of the English from positions of power.
In this climate it is difficult to imagine a free society. Scotland however has a rich History, as rich as the United States, of advancing the cause of freedom and Liberty. The declaration of Arbroath it could be argued is a distant relative of the declaration of Independance, the Enlightenment figures of Adam Smith, Hume, Ferguson and others were a beacon of rational thinking and rejection of irrational authoritarianism.
Today however Scotland is one of the most pro-socialist and pro-nationalist thinking countries in the world. Full employment, Free Healthcare, Education, CCTV are all conventional wisdom. 'Independance', 'taking back our oil', Sectarianism, and blaming the English make up our issues and desires. True freedom is forgotten and our anger over something lost is apparent but contained.
So it is from this that I come to you, not to scream 'i have it worse-or better' but to talk about politics that are so interesting to me.
About The Column
This is the first U.S election i have taken a real interest in. This year i have found my own information, cross checked the news sources, looked for inconsistencies and similarities and checked the background of panel experts.
My understanding of the news media and my entire thinking has exploded from the narrow confines of getting my news served on a plate to hunting for my news with my wits. Following this years race to be the nominee has been an instrument of personal development, something I am very thankful for.
The natural conclusion is to participate, contributing to Nolan Chart would be an honour.
