Life's a Risk
by Jeff Wrobel (Libertarian)

About The Author

I’m a self-taught student of Austrian Economics and I’ve been a libertarian since about 1978. I voted for Clark in 1980, Bergland in 1984, campaigned and voted for Ron Paul in 1988, and campaigned heavily for Marrou/Lord in 1992. After years of pathetic vote totals, I gave up actively campaigning. Ron Paul’s recent success has inspired me to rejoin the battle.

I have a great family of a wife and two daughters. I currently live in the San Diego area, but also lived for 8 years in the Marshall Islands. I play the trumpet, have a degree in Physics, and have earned my living creating software for over a quarter of a century.

About The Column

This column is based on the fact that life IS a risk. If every one of your thoughts and actions were dictated by someone else, you might just as well be replaced by a robot. Why live at all under those conditions? The more decisions you make for yourself, the more sense it makes for you to be alive. Whether your life is a series of tests laid out for you from God, or whether your life is just the outcome of random chance, YOU need to be in charge of it for it to have full meaning. You can abdicate your right to control your own life, but don’t abdicate that right for the rest of us.

To have meaning in your life, you need to be able to make you own decisions; to make your own mistakes; to decide your own risks. This column defends your right to take risks. Therefore, this column defends your life.
