About The Author
I was born in Czechoslovakia, escaped in 1949 into post-war Germany, spent a few years as a refugee and eventually emigrated to Canada. I attended university through their version of our ROTC program, served an additional 3 years and emigrated to the US with a brand-new-minted PhD to work at Bell Laboratories. I discovered that the system of government was not working as the founding fathers designed and became an activist "patriot". In the '90's I was running a business in the SF Bay area called "Curtis Trading Company" or "Surplus Stuff" with much radio advertising and our own TV show. We were well-known in the Bay area and sponsored many political functions. I had been subscribing to Ron Paul's stuff for years, and finally met him in the mid '90's (I have a picture of my wife and Ron Paul from 1997 I'll send you if you like). I would like to chime in on some of the issues - this old dog still has a few tricks left.
About The Column
During the '90's I published a column in a conservative weekly in the East Bay (San Francisco) titled "The American Way". The theme of most of my articles was geared to making a case against "collectivism" and how it destroys our freedom. I believe I can bring a coherent point of wiew to many of the problems we face today. I have a small sample of my writing in a couple of posts as "Ivan from Oregon"
