The Stoic Files

About The Author
I work for a small private IT company based in Montreal, Canada. I have lots of side projects, and amateur political commentary is one of them. I'm a business major with a specialization in Management Information Systems, and I've done a considerable amount of self-study in economics, particularly the Neoclassical School and the Austrian School.
All my life I've been confronted with the collectivist mentality embraced by the vast majority of people intent on following the herd wherever it leads them. It comes in many varieties, its effects are disastrous, but its appeal never dies. Defending the rights of individuals to make their own choices is a tall order, especially outside of the United States. In many cases, the collectivists won't even argue with dissenters. If you're not like them, they call you names and shout you down... But you've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything.
In this day and age, all but a few believe that individuals do not exist for their own sake but are born to be bondservants to Society at Large, as represented by their nation's government or an international structure. Furthermore, the collective consensus of either a small group of experts or the population at large is considered to be the ultimate truth not to be questioned or challenged. We don't think for ourselves anymore... We fail to see that this "collective wisdom" is simply unworkable and how it was influenced by those who would like to obtain power for the sake of power. We stopped following arguments to their logical conclusions. All in all, we've lost the basic tools of reasoning that have allowed our civilization to thrive and prosper, and if we continue in our current path, we're likely to repeat the mistakes of the 20th century when millions of people died on the altar of blind collectivism.
My objective is to become a better user of the faculty of reason and do my part in repelling the menace of collectivism.
