About The Column
Teddy Roosevelt once said, "To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." I also believe that extends to our Congress and the inner workings of the United States government. If people do not speak out against what they see is wrong, they are just as bad as those who perpetrate it. Elected officials work for you and not the other way around.
DNC, Chair Howard Dean has abandoned the base as he courts evangelicals
Published: September 27, 2007
This is where I feel like matching the 'Dean scream' in seeing this move by the Democratic National Committee Chair, Howard Dean. To Howard Dean, your base has been there, but you have left the base in the dust.
Note to Condoleezza Rice: Americans and not Israelis should be our top priority
Published: September 24, 2007
It is time for our government to represent our needs as a people. If this editorial should inspire you to take action in some way, please let it be for you to call your elected officials to cut off the aid to Israel. We simply cannot afford it. Tell them of your needs and of how you have suffered throughout the years.
The war in Iraq is but a Ponzi scheme
Published: September 23, 2007
More than likely should a blow-back occur and I do feel it is only a matter of time we shall see one, the political elites will be sheltered. It will be you and me who will become its next victims. Both innocent Iraqis and innocent Americans have had and will continue to have blood spilled as a result of this Ponzi scheme.
In collecting data on traveling Americans ‘we the people’ have lost our country
Published: September 22, 2007
As I was thinking of these drivers licenses that Spitzer wants to give out to illegals, I thought to myself, we lost our country only to wake up to read where it will be legals that are being monitored. I will put it bluntly; have American citizens become second class people within their own country?
Why Me? Voices from America
Published: September 21, 2007
I just wish I had more answers to give my readers, but when I do not see real action coming from Washington, D.C., I too am at a loss. So, to the politicos in Washington, D.C.; do you think you can get on the ball and get the people’s business done?
Cong. Walter Jones receives my ‘Founding Fathers Award’
Published: September 20, 2007
In going about your normal Saturday routines, please think of Congressman Walter Jones sitting in his office writing those “mea-culpa” letters to those family members left behind. This is truly the act of a courageous and just man. God bless him.
Declaration of Independence
Published: September 20, 2007
In hearing this declaration read and reading its transcript, several passages do stick out. I believe many others will stick out as you familiarize yourself with the words coming from this country’s founders.
If Republicans choose Giuliani; are they stuck on stupid?
Published: September 19, 2007
In winding down the Bush administrations stranglehold of this country, I really feel that a vast majority of Americans are thirsting and craving for a real change. If the Republicans wind up choosing Giuliani as their candidate, we will all be in for more of the same, if not worse. To the Republican Party, please tell me that you have learned from your past mistakes.
Rehashing the 2004 campaign as it relates to the taser incident
Published: September 18, 2007
As many more of our soldiers die in this war, it is heightening people's emotions. Many feel this war could have been handled differently had Kerry stuck to his guns and challenged that outcome. Maybe, just maybe Senator Kerry as president would have ended it. But, we will never know.
“Help what have I done?” The abridgement of free speech
Published: September 18, 2007
I have often said of our founders, they were geniuses when it came to drafting the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights. They must be saying how dumb some are for not upholding these rights guaranteed to ‘we the people’.
On Constitution Day, My 'Founding Fathers Award' goes to Sen. Robert Byrd
Published: September 17, 2007
I hereby award my 'Founding Fathers Award' to Senator Robert Byrd and ask that my readers demand answers from their elected officials asking them how this war is legal. Our founders would have expected 'we the people' to do so.
To Nancy Pelosi with 1 million Iraqis dead; when will impeachment be on the table?
Published: September 16, 2007
To the American people, one million innocent Iraqis blood is now on your hands. It is time to hold both Bush and Cheney responsible. The time has come to call for both of their impeachments and ultimately for the both of them to stand trial for crimes against humanity. When exactly will your outrage come? Your silence is deafening.
To rejoin or not…That is the question
Published: September 15, 2007
Whatever decision I make will be personal. However, I will continue to be independent in my prose and will never adhere strictly to one political doctrine. The only thing I will state publicly is that I am an American first and foremost. How I wish most of our elected officials at the federal level felt that same way and in the same light. We would all be the better for it.
In the spirit of Ramadan, I apologize to the Iraqi people
Published: September 14, 2007
I will continue to speak out against this heinous war, and I will continue to pray that a leader emerges that will end this carnage. A true leader, who has morals, truly knows and understands the teachings of God, and one who has true compassion and has done so in both words and deeds. I also pray that a leader comes forth who truly knows the harm we have caused you and has the courage of conviction to end it.
Minority Leader Boehner, the loss of life is not a “small price”
Published: September 13, 2007
Mr. Boehner, by saying the loss of life is a small price in relation to this war, you owe an apology to our military and the family members left behind to grieve a lifetime. You owe the same apology to the innocent Iraqis devastated by this war. And incidentally by using uncertain words like “if” you have undercut the military. Good job, Mr. Boehner.
What to do about Iraq?: The hubris of the United States Congress
Published: September 13, 2007
As Congress continues to exhibit their verbal diarrhea deciding what to do about Iraq, each and every American should tell them, the time to leave Iraq is now. This was and still is an illegal occupation of a sovereign country and the sooner each and every one of us wraps our brain around that one, the longer this will drag out. What to do with Iraq? That question only shows our hubris.
Osama bin Laden says he is a martyr? No, he is a coward
Published: September 12, 2007
I do think that the only significant moment would be his capture. I want for his victims to find a sense of closure as he is tried in our courts, convicted and ultimately faces his just punishment. Maybe then he can fulfill the very definition of a martyr, but for now, he is a coward.
9/11: We all deserve a morning after and must condemn zealotry
Published: September 10, 2007
To the 2,986 who lost their lives on 9/11, we a peaceful people do mourn you. We must also mourn 3,773 of our troops have been killed since the war began. We must mourn the 676 soldiers that have lost their lives in Afghanistan whose deaths are barely mentioned. We must equally mourn the one million innocent Iraqis who have lost their lives as has been reported.
To Peggy Noonan: What “minority viewpoint”?
Published: September 10, 2007
At this point, many writers have expressed their outrage at these unending wars and the war in Iraq and we do so in such futility. We keep trying to reach into the hearts and minds of these saber rattlers without any success. We are tired of the rivers of blood and the oceans of tears that has become our modern day world.
Note to Gov. Schwarzenegger: Freedom and liberty means not filling seats
Published: September 9, 2007
This country has a myriad of issues to address and more importantly solve. It sure seems that the people are being left behind and all I have to say is leave political parties behind. Perhaps, these elected officials in Washington, D.C. will sit up and take notice and for once work on behalf of 'we the people'. If they don't they should go find other work.
