Illegal Immigration: Victimless Crime? Libertarians are upset at Ron Paul's Latest Commercial regarding Illegal Immigration. Do they have a point?by EJ Moosa

Some Libertarians are upset about Ron Paul's proposal to clarify the Constitution and the current concept that if born in the United States, you are automatically granted citizenship. This interpretation has paved the way to motivate millions of illegal immigrants to come to the United States and give birth to their children.
Some of those same Libertarians would also like to see us have open borders. I have always personally struggled with that concept. Today, I recognized the reason behind my struggle.
Illegal immigration is NOT a victimless crime. To listen to comments such as Mike Huckabee who states that we should not punish the children of illegal immigrants for what their parents have done, would instead punish the children and parents of all U.S. citizens. There is a major problem with a Presidential Candidate who cannot see or grasp that he is taking from one group to give to another group.
The victims of illegal immigration are you and I. Money is taken from us at gunpoint(or at the very least the seizure of your assets via the IRS) with the intention of using it to educate your children, fund emergency services at your local hospital, etc. And victimization is victimization, whether you can afford it or not.
Our current system rewards those parents who can break the law and get here for the birth of their children. Of course they are going to break the law. What good parent would not attempt the same? So to discourage that behavior, we must change the interpretation of the Constitution, or pass an amendment as Ron Paul suggests.
No one denies that the majority of illegal immigrants are hard working people. Nor that we have benefitted in this country by having them here. But that does not make it morally right.
What we have done is allowed Mexico to continue to ignore the plight of its people. Have you considered that if all illegal immigrants had stayed in Mexico and worked to affect change there, Mexico might be a stronger neighbor today? Instead, we have allowed illegal immigrants to send money earned here back to Mexico which then keeps a corrupt and inept government in place. What of the continued suffering in Mexico that we are enabling to continue? Are there no regrets for that?
If we had open borders that allowed people to come and go but did not automatically bestow access to services that you and I are forced to pay for, it is not likely many of us would be upset with immigration. But to overcrowd my schools, delay services at my emergency room, and collect social services from my tax dollars is unacceptable. It is stealing.
Were you and I to go to movie and sneak in the back door, we would be guilty of theft by conversion. Illegal immigation is no different.
Ron Paul is right. We can address and change this issue. We have the right to address this issue. We should not be made to feel guilty for protecting what is ours. Giving citizenship to the children of those here illegally makes as much sense as giving kids born on January 1st free college scholarships. It makes no sense.

Some Americans are becoming aware what illegal immigration is costing the average person in terms of money, schools, lack of medical care, failing infrastructure, stolen identifty, and attack on our language, and culture. But many others just want cheap labor, and cheap goods and don't realize that the very existence of our country is at stake. If we do not stop it now, and deport all illegals, the illegals will just keep flowing in by the millions.
As a former LP candidate for Congress it was these types of things that quickly made me realize I did not quite fit the LP hardcore and returned shortly after the campaign to the GOP and the Republican Liberty Caucus. It is not a victimless crime and you articulate that quite well.
My brother is a victim of the crime. He spent 30 years as a very skilled mason. His craft, in the 80s, earned him a good wage for the quality and beauty he could create. In the 90s his wages began to go down as his experience and skill improved even more. Cheap labor from illegal aliens were driving down the wage even though the work they produced was inferior in detail and quality. Now he is unable to earn more than a very low wage as the influx has reached an epidemic level and the skill of the illegal alien, while not equal to his, has at least improved slightly. He literally ruined his back in masonry because at one point he was proud of the gorgeous buildings he could help design and build. No longer can he earn a livable wage doing what he loves...these are those so-called jobs no American would perform.
Those dirty wetbacks are ruining this nation, we need to give up on so called "free-trade" and kick these taco eaters out of this country for good. No more brown people, no more blacks, just a white nation with racial purity.
Illegal Immigration is not a Republican, or a Democratic issue; Illegal Immigration is an American Taxpayer issue.
Are your school classrooms overcrowded??
If not, just wait until the illegal immigrants overrun your state, and then your school classrooms will be overcrowded. It is only a matter of time.
California has between 750,000 and 1,000,000 illegal immigrant students.
CA also has a 14.5 Billion Dollar state deficit. It is so bad that Governor Schwarzenegger stated that he will have to declare a Fiscal Emergency.
CA's cost per K-12 student is $9,912 per year. Do the math. Education of illegal immigrant students costs CA Taxpayers between 7 and 9 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR.
If CA didn't have illegal immigrant students, CA would not have a Budget Deficit, let alone a Fiscal Emergency.
If CA did not have illegal immigrant students, CA would not have overcrowded classrooms, or the need for new schools.
ENFORCE OUR EXISTING FEDERAL LAWS AGAINST ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS!!
BUILD THE FENCE!!
SECURE THE BORDER!!
PASS THE SAVE ACT!!
SEND OUT THE NO-MATCH LETTERS!!
Illegal Aliens Receive $37 Million From Los Angeles County In November - THE TOTAL COST FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS TO LOS ANGELES COUNTY TAXPAYERS FAR EXCEEDS $1 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR – not even including the 100's of millions of dollars for education.”
While I sympathize with many of the views expressed here, and admit that my own views on immigration are much more conservative than friends on my left ( I believe that fluency in English should be a prerequisite for any immigrant coming to this country and that the "family" model should be replaced with a "skills" and "merit" system) I'd be interested to see how many of you respond to this study that was released last week by the conservative foundation "America Majority"
In "Immigration and the Wealth of States," author Richard Nadler contrasts the 19 jurisdictions that contain 84% of the America's immigrant population with the 32 states in which the remaining 16% reside
A few numbers immediately jump out:
-- Median per capita income ( the earnings of the 'man in the middle' )is $3,469 greater in the 19 high immigration jurisdictions than in the 32 other states.
-- From 1999-to-2006, unemployment declined in the high immigration states, while increasing nationwide.
-- From 1999-to-2006, the percentage of individuals in poverty decreased in the 10 states with the highest percentage of immigrants, while increasing elsewhere.
-- In 2006, the total crime rate per 100,000 residents was lower in the high immigration jurisdictions than in the 32 other states.
The full study can be downloaded from their site http://www.amermaj.com/
The findings surprised both the author and the foundation, but the results actually reflect similar study's released recently.
While the results can be interpreted a number of ways ( the authors remain staunch supporters of closing the borders) there's no denying the implications. How do antimmigration proponents address the findings honestly, with retracting into reflexive denial.
It does illegal immigration opponents no favors to continually promote blatant falsehoods like—"illegal immigration brings rabies" ( Dobbs) — and the widely discredited "anchor babies" meme.
There are plenty of sane, reasoned arguments to be made against the current flow of immigrants into this country, both legal and otherwise. But when people resort to blatant untruths and half truths it only bolsters the other sides arguments that immigration opponents are all hysterical, wild eyed racists and Xenophobes.
Criminals did NOT build America; Citizens and LEGAL immigrants built it. Illegal Aliens and Immigration is NOT the same thing. 80% of the American people want an end to anarchy! This is NOT a Democrat, Republican, Independent issue. It's an American Issue.
Illegal aliens are criminals, those who hire them are criminals and those who aid-and-abet them are criminals.
Illegal aliens in America have NO rights. We are required by law to arrest and prosecute, deport them. (Title 8 U.S. Code) To report illegal aliens call the DHS National Hotline 1 866 DHS 2ICE. (1-866-347-2523)
No, matter your political party affiliation, and setting aside your thoughts on issues. We all need to remember what it is to be an American Citizen. We need to make sure our elected representatives obey their Oath of Office and keep their Oath of Allegiance. See http://tinyurl.com/2znnvl Know whom you are voting for.
To "The Enemy" - If you look at the detail behind the American Majority analysis you can easily see the weakness of their study. The Majority of states in their "High Immigrant States" have had strong economies for many years - long before Illegal Immigration was a problem. The Majority of the "Low Immigrant States" have been having economic problems for years. The "Low Immigrant States" have such economic non-powerhouses as the "rust belt" states, the Dakota's, Wyoming, Montana and such. Whereas the "High Immigrant States" include such places as California, New York, Illinois and other such economic powerhouses. So which came first, the immigrant or the strong economy. The answer is the strong economy, which in turn drew the immigrants. To complicate matters, based on government published statistics, close to 70% of the Immigrants under study in this analysis are LEGAL IMMIGRANTS whose addmittance to this country is controlled so as to encurage said immigrants to locate where people are needed to fill growing economies. At best, this study proves that controlled immigration works. And it really has little to say about Illegal Immigrants.
As to this article - At last people are starting to see that Illegal Immigration is not a victimless crime.
Yes, non US citizens have no rights. Why do you want to shut down Gitmo, but build a wall? You libertarians are ignorant racist conspiracy theorist idiots, and the only answer is RON PAUL. You can not and will not criticize his non libertarian ideas.
