Paul, McCain, Huckabee Qualify on Rhode Island Ballot
Just received confirmation from RI Sec. of State's office three Republican candidates to be designated "Qualified For Ballot Placement" today. by Bob Nightingale

A few minutes ago I received confirmation from the Rhode Island Secretary of State's office that Ron Paul, John McCain and Mike Huckabee have qualified for ballot placement for the state's Mar 4 Primary. Rhode Island contributes 40 of 2,380 delegates that will go Minneapolis Sep 1 to 4 for the Republican National Convention.
Rhode Island requires at least 1,000 certified signatures before a candidate appears on a primary ballot for Democratic or Republican parties. As of today (1/4/08) Ron Paul turned in the most signatures with 2,904. Other Republicans who turned in over 1,000 are Huckabee (2,747), Romney (2,383), McCain (2,249), Giuliani (2,108), Thompson (1,491), Hunter (1,040), and Hugh Cort (1,006). However, only Paul (1,143) and McCain (1,012) are displayed on the website with more than 1,000 signatures certified.
On the Democratic side, five candidates have turned in over 1,000 signatures, but only Obama and Clinton have over 1,000 certified signatures and are marked as "Qualified for Ballot Placement" so far. Rhode Island sends 32 delegates of 4,051 to the Democratic National Convention this year.
The RI Secretary of State office will issue an official list and determine candidate order on ballot Feb 1. Feb 2 is the last day to register to vote in Rhode Island.
