What most Americans think of Israel is missing part of the story. People have different opinions there, just not recognized in the U.S. by our politicians who try to help Israel. by Modern Socialist

What did you ever consider about Israel's politics? I bet you never cared. You along with most Americans probably say we need to help Israel. But have you ever thought about what Israel actually wants? You probably never thought of Israel's internal politics. You either think the land belongs to the jews so Israel deserves all of it or, you say that Israel deserves their own state. And you probably don't think any land from Israel should be given up. I don't blame you. No one ever has told you the other sides.
You've probably heard Herman Cain say "if you mess with Israel you mess with the United States." Oh rubbish. There are more views than what you've heard. First and least prominent there is the very religiuos Jewish right. They argue the State of Israel should have never been created. They say that Jews should wait for the messiah and everything will be perfect. Since this a minority in Israel no one pays attetion to it in the United States. What Herman Cain agrees with is the Israeli Conservatives. They think Israel needs all the land and they don't wan't to make a compromise with the Palestinians. They're even upset about Gaza being lost.
These candidates who support Israel in that respect are bassicly trying to get the Jewish vote. Just because you're Jewish doesn't mean you're more informed on Israel. They have not been told any differently and think god gave the Jews the land so Israel keeps it. I am Jewish and I do believe the land of Israel belongs to the jews originally. But I don't think we can keep it. The conservative right-wing view is also supported by the Evangellicals. They have a religious theology that if all Israel is Jewish they can get all the Jews there when the messiah comes. I'm not sure if these candidates know Israeli politics and just saying what they know. Or if they're just trying to get votes.
I've told you about the Israeli conservatives. Now there are Statists, Libertarians and Liberals. Statists support religious laws being strongly enforced and are a little closer to the right. They are in the Government now. Libertarians are not as common and think that Israel should be a mixed state. This will eventually lead Israel to be one of the many Muslim states. Liberals are almost as common as Conservatives. They think the State of Isreal should give up some land and call it Palestine. This is partially what Obama wants. He's helping Israel. He just doesn't agree with Netanyahu. I agree with Israeli liberals. To keep all this land would be huge conflict. Some Palestinians would want more. And there won't be peace. But there'll be less violence.
Israel should keep the Golan because their main water source runs through there. But doing without Gaza and giving up the West Bank might push a little change. If they are prodominantly Arab than why try keep them? This will also allow for the creation of a more Jewish state. The Arabs have their land which they already live on. They want peace there too. If the West Bank is seperated, Jews would move to Israel and Arabs would stay in the west bank. They don't want the violence. I have familly in Israel who support this phillosiphy. You might be surprised, but they support Obama. Along with many others. Except for extreme Palestinian activists/terrorists mos people will be happy.
I'd expect that you're mostly the same on your position on Israel if you're a conservative or statist. If you're a Liberal or Libertarian I hope you understand what's going on there a little better then before. Thanks for reading.
