A Paul GOP nomination for President is Obama's dream opponent!

Ron Paul may be right on a lot of issues, but he is wrong on quite a few, and all together, unless independents and disaffected liberals cross over..he has no chance.

Ron Paul has too many disadvantages, too many positions against core groups within the GOP to win the nomination over the long haul of a full primary campaign, but he could do very well in the early contests.

On foreign policy, Paul's less militant, less Middle East focused foreign policy, is probably a step in the right direction, but it alienates the Jewish conservative money that funds Limbaugh - Hannity - Savage - Beck.  All of those conservative talk show hosts have all but ignored Paul, but if he appears a real choice, they will turn on him like rabid dogs. And they have plenty of red meat with Paul.  To begin with Paul is an appeaser on the Illegal Immigrants, and for many Americans, especially Republican leaning voters, that won't sell.  Paul also support legalizing drugs, another non starter with many on the right.  And then there's the homosexual issues.  Again, a non starter with the Religious Right!  (And that includes me.)

With no challenge within the Democratic Party, liberals of all persuasions could be tempted to cross over, where they can and support Paul, knowing that his nomination would give Obama the best chance of winning in November.  Paul is the only Republican candidate more dangerous to Israel than Obama.  And the Jewish lobby and political organization is probably the most powerful force in the nation.  Doubt me?  Let's look at the mainstream media non coverage of the wars in the Middle East, and the efforts by Beck, Hannity et. el to sustain the American national will for forward deployment in the Middle East.  The wars in the Middle East combined with an open southern border and the infiltration of tens of millions of illegal immigrants demonstrate the lunacy of US foreign policy!  As non engaged as Americans are, should actions in the Mid East lead to a war with Iran (Persia), after a decade of wars in the region and rising oil prices, and continued stagnating economy, the time for Vietnam style anti-war protests will have arrived.  Somehow, I just don't see those protests.

Paul should do well in Iowa, but its because Americans are fed up with US policies which are not working, and are destroying our nation.  Only Paul addresses them head on.  And he has a record to run on.  He maybe the only Washington "outsider" serving in Congress.  Well maybe not, Louie Gohmert, also a Texan, is just as "outsider," though from a very set of positions.

Paul does have some strong positions on the economy. The emboldened statements below come from Congressman Paul's official campaign website;.

As President, Ron Paul will lead the way out of this crisis by:

* Vetoing any unbalanced budget Congress sends to his desk.

* Refusing to further raise the debt ceiling so politicians can no longer spend recklessly.

* Fighting to fully audit (and then end) the Federal Reserve System, which has enabled the over 95% reduction of what our dollar can buy and continues to create money out of thin air to finance future debt.

* Legalizing sound money, so the government is forced to get serious about the dollar’s value.

* Ending the corporate stranglehold on the White House.

* Driving down gas prices by allowing offshore drilling, abolishing highway motor fuel taxes, increasing the mileage reimbursement rates, and offering tax credits to individuals and businesses for the use and production of natural gas vehicles.

* Eliminating the income, capital gains, and death taxes to ensure you keep more of your hard-earned money and are able to pass on your legacy to your family without government interference.

* Opposing all unfunded mandates and unnecessary regulations on small businesses and entrepreneurs.

Paul also speaks conservative when you consider the issues of abortion and sealing the border.  You hear a strain of nationalism most of the other GOPers won't espouse.

One issue not mentioned is Paul's age, 76.  While that is not being talked about now, it could be a sleeper issue for the Democrats, especially if Paul were to win the nomination and then make some real mistakes in the presidential debates.

Ron Paul could make an excellent Secretary of Treasury, and could be a very strong asset in a Bachmann or Palin cabinet.  He might even be able to serve with Gingrich, though I am unaware of their personal relationship.

Look for Paul to do well in Iowa, ...if he does, New Hampshire might surprise alot of people.
