How Perrys Plan Backfired
Perry was on top and prepared for a fight...and then something happened. by KLH

When GOP Presidential hopeful Rick Perry came running out of the gates because God told his wife that he should run for president, it looked as though it would be easy for him to rise to the top. He has been drinking the Tea before it has made its national debut in 2010 and was very straight-forward even if he really did have much of anything to say in my opinion.
For some time his popularity grew and grew and he suggest his stint as a Democrat was due to a lack of common sense. He devastated Michelle Bachmann since most conservative Christians would choose a man to lead them over a woman any day. Romney did not and still does not generate a ton of enthusiasm among those who want to use government to dismantle it and the others were afterthoughts.
He called Bernake treasonous, and any Americans who has taken a history class knows how traitors are punished. He told military personnelthat they should have a Commander-in-Chief they could respect which when translated means “I assume you do not respect the current Commander-in-Chief.” He went to New York during the United Nations conventions and attempted to blast Obama’s foreign policy on Israel. I knew the way he read that piece of paper that he had a staff that knew he had to be tamed while at the same time thinking that his very black and white views on foreign policy that did not make room for diplomacy would probably lead us into World War III if he became President. I also thought that this was possibly going to be the beginning of a very ugly election season.
But then something happened; people started to examine all his policies and investigate his past. The Texas Dream Act. HPV Mandate for young girls, especially in relationship to his ties to Merck. How could someone who is Mexico’s neighbor and lives in a state with one of the highest teen pregnancy rate even think that children of undocumented immigrants might actually benefit from an education and that preventing cervical cancer was a good thing? Note, I actually see these things as practical but conservative Christians who have a tendency to see all immigrants as “parasites” and continue to fight for abstinence-only education even when it clearly is not working would oppose both.
He told an audience at a debate that they were heartless for being against educating children of undocumented immigrants. And then we had Perry-gate….he had a hunting camp named what!? And even though he said his father painted over the rock, I doubt that people just stopped calling that area Ni**erhead. We all have those places we knew as one name that our brains refuse to forget even if the name has changed. We are creatures of habit.
He used government grants to subsidize subprime lenders who came into the state which have contributed to the mortgage crisis even though conservatives fail to mention that not having a job or taking a major pay cut kind of makes it difficult to pay a mortgage regardless of the type of mortgage or the borrowers’ credit statuses. Now we have learned he voted against sanctions in Apartheid-era South Africa. And he managed to top it all off by supporting a license plate featuring the Confederate Flag, a symbol that I would argue is treasonous.
But the bigger point here is that I believe Rick Perry was going to run a brutal campaign against his fellow GOP candidates and ultimately President Obama. It is well know that he has done so against his opponents in his run for Texas governor and it worked. Either Texans did not care about these things or he was able to keep them hidden with the help of some friends. But with his recent issues coming to light and supporter Pastor Jeffress’ Mormon-bashing that is turning many people off, he cannot attack the Mormon and Black guy currently leading the pack which explains his insomnia-curing performance at the recent economic debate in NH.
It is hilarious that his wife Anita Perry is talking through tears about how the media has “brutalized” him and in one of his latest interviews he talks softly about how he cares about the unemployed and then unveils a jobs plan to allow drilling all over this country and give the states the ability to make their own environmental laws. I like to call it The Koch Brothers Act. Goodbye to the renewable energy industry that is currently limping along in America because the status quo is stifling the American innovative spirit. Goodbye clean air. Goodbye clean water. Hello oil Spills. Hello wildlife and nature covered in oil. Hello clean-ups.
So even in Perry’s docile attempt to reach out to the average American, there is a terrifying vision of the future that I cannot get out of my head. But he is learning that he cannot play the games he played in Texas because more and more reporters will be looking into his history. On top of that, people are tired of all the scare tactics and hypnotic rhetoric the Right has used to divide and scare people so even if he makes it through the primaries, I doubt his tactics would work with most of the American people. This is the real deal, Rick, so you and Mrs. Perry better toughen up or stay in Texas where you can control everything.
