Threats that don't exist seem to be driving US policy
Recent arrest of single American terrorist wanna be highlights how misdirected US policies are. by Mark Vogl

The most recent arrest of a single man led into terrorist activities by the federal government, highlights just how much effort and expense is wasted defending America against an impotent threat.
Let's see, there are 1.6 billion Moslems in the world spread across dozens of nations. There are hundreds of thousands to millions of Moslems within the United States. And, the US has completely redirected its foreign and defense policies as a result of September 11th. America is involved in two wars in the Middle East, and just this past week news reports tell of the transfer of bunker busting bombs to Israel for what appears to be preparation for an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities.
One side issue of this "crisis" is that the US refuses to develop its own huge energy resources so as to remain dependent on foreign oil, thus providing some national purpose for our deployment in the Middle East. In addition, we refuse to work with the rest of the world to create a Palestinian state.
Everywhere you look, American policy, both domestic and foreign, revolves around a threat that seems to be more a creation of supporters of Israel, than a real threat based on the capabilities and actions of a global Moslem terrorst complex. That's not to say there are not Moslem criminal and fanatics who would hurt both Israel and the United States. There are. The attacks here and around the globe prove that. But the inability of those groups to sustain a real threat to the US, even when borders are unguarded, and even when real damage can be done by a relative few indicates to me that our reaction has been both over done, and misdirected our national priorities. .
Have more Americans died of abortion or terrorism since September 11th?
Have more Americans died of violence along the Mexican border or as a result of terrorism by Moslems since September 11th?
How many hundreds of thousands, possibly millions of illegals come into America since September 11th?
How much money has been spent on the development and refining of American energy reserves compared to war costs in the Mid-East since September 11th?
The American people now have to strip and be assaulted bodily to board an airplane. But, how many hi-jackers or bombers have been caught in this process? How much money has been spent? How many thousands of Americans wearing white shirts at the airport earn their living through Homeland Security?
Now what about the real threats? Has illegal drug trafficking suffered great arrests and prosecutions and lost hundreds of millions of dollars? Has illegal immigration been stopped along the southern border? How bout murderers and rapists in America? Down or up in the last ten years?
This is a "sky is falling" scenerio. Combining terrorism with global warming has done a great deal to wreck America's commercial success while misdirecting the efforts of the government. Add on top of that the deficit financing of large parts of the federal government, and globalism, and you can see why America is failing.
The non-existent threat of Moslem terrorism is at the core of American politics. It is the center of the spider web of policies and compromises which has twisted the purpose of the US government and sustained an impossible demand for government spending. Everything is related to it.
There is no doubt that America needs to protect itself. But we don't. We don't secure our borders. We don't withdraw our military from a chaotic world, but instead push ourselves into historic tensions which have never been resolved. And what's really bad is the government works to manipulate and create a public opinion of fear and insecurity. The entire Obama Presidency has been about crisis after crisis, pending disasters just over the horizon. Limbaugh and Hannity and Beck all help maintain this psychology of fear. It is the conservatives who most often point to the Middle East and the Moslems, and bring up the tragedy of September 11th. And it is those same conservative talk show hosts who call for renewed US commitment to Israel. While the liberals are nonnegotiable on social programs, Obama Care, and continued expansion of government, the conservatives are just as non-negotiable on the US "police role" in the world. Together these policies are bankrupting America!
And the greatest tragedy of all, none of the candidates, left or right, talk about a truly wide spread re-evaluation of our nation's role in the world, and our government’s role in society. Instead we continue down a path of centralization and debt creation, one that is destroying the future of this nation.

Let me introduce you to a presidential candidate who does, indeed, have an entirely different world-view from the rest of the presidential candidates. He too wants to bring the troops home. He too wants America to lay off the anti-Muslim B.S. His name is Ron Paul.

Walt I cannot accept legalizing drugs, homosexuality, and illegal immigrants getting asylum. In addition, Congressman Paul's political base is just too small. Congressman just can't build a large base before they start campaigning. And there just ain't that many libertarians. Sorry, Mark

Mark, you need to read the Koran, before you dismiss Islam so blithely as a threat.
Let me quote:
"Fight and slay the infidels wheresoever ye find them. Seize them, besiege them, ambush them with every ambush. But if they repent, and follow Allah, and pay the poor-due, then let them go their way. Lo! Allah is Forgiving! Merciful!"
I refuse to "repent" or "follow Allah" or pay their version of the "poor-due."
We have seen honor killings in this country. You want to try for more?
