Debate Breakdown: When did we begin to equate this kind of panel interrogation with a debate? This format is not a debate; calling it one is ridiculous.

Overall Winner: Ron Paul - by an enormous margin

Most Damaged: Michelle Bachman - She is such a dim bulb it is simply scary to me that she has any support at all. Why can't everyone see what a nincompoop she is?

Least Damaged: Ron Paul - He said nothing new. His consistency makes it hard for him to be damaged because the lame attacks on misconceptions of his ideas get old...they have come up with nothing new to damage Ron Paul with in the last 4 years while their old attacks have proven to be of little substance.

Most Helped: John Huntsman - Gold epaulets may have been the way to go...save that tip for the next debate.

Least Helped: Rick Perry - He is just another one of the standard issue Christian war mongers. The field is already full of them... he showed no differentiation.

Most fun to watch: Newt Gingrich - He is the sharpest speaker and quickest wit in the GOP today, and for decades. It was a sheer pleasure to watch him flay those who would use standard tactics to rattle him. If he had a sword to match his words he could be the 5th musketeer.

Least fun to watch: Rick Santorum - Lose the perpetual grimace, Rick.Does your face hurt? No? Well it's killing me.

Most Dangerous: Newt Gingrich (He is so much smarter than the average politician they don't even know it...and he promotes the empire...dangerous.)

Least Dangerous: Herman Cain  (Herman would be the most dangerous if he had a chance of winning.  9,9,9 tithing = a 27% tax on me...and everyone else who pays ALL the tax bills, we, the net tax payers should fear this man's ideas as we would fear slavery and torture. Since less than half the workforce pays ALL the taxes this is more like a 54% tax with no options, no choices no compromise or rewards for prudent tax planning on every single person who is a net tax payer.)

Best Zinger: Mitt Romney - his comment that if Perry took responsibility for the natural wealth of Texas it would be like Al Gore claiming he invented the internet.  Best in show, Mitt.

Worst Zinger: Brian Williams (panel interrogator) - Every word Brian Williams said to Ron Paul was lame but biased.

Summary:

With the spectacular exception of Dr. Paul, the GOP field shares these traits:

1. Willing and eager to use the force of government to impose Christian law from the federal, Constitutional, level. They all represent a step toward a Sharia-like Christian Empire.

2. Willing and eager to use the force of military to grow the US empire in ways that fit with #1 above. (Including on our own borders.)

3. Believe that they can 'tweak' a destructively oppressive government into a constructively oppressive government, and, that doing so would be a good thing despite the loss of individual liberty and freedom of choice such tweaking requires.

4. Believe that government should manipulate markets. They only disagree with democrats on how and which markets should be manipulated.

5. Believe there is an oppression and force oriented solution to the economic issue of immigration, both legal and illegal.

By contrast, Ron Paul's positions and strategies are based upon his knowing that:

1. The Constitution should not be used to codify faith at the federal level. (If it is done once, it can be done again...for another faith. Anyone who truly fears Sharia should oppose every attempt to codify their own faith also.)

2. A foreign policy of war, bribery and direct manipulation in the internal workings of democratic processes in sovereign nations can only lead to perpetual war and escalating violence against the source of that manipulation, the USA.

3. The world view and way of thinking that has led us to brink of collapse cannot be tweaked into being a good thing. It must be scrapped in favor of the limits on government intended by the US constitution as originally ratified.

4. The only way to invigorate a market economy is to stop manipulating it through politically leveraged regulation and taxation. Getting government out of the way is the only way to reset our engine of prosperity, free enterprise.

5. There is no oppression-based solution to economic consequences caused by the implementation of a welfare state. There is no such thing as a force-secured border. People can even get in and out of North Korea, the tightest police state in the world. Why would any US leader suggest we become better at controlling borders than North Korea?  They think we're stupid. Ron Paul said it last night. No border is controlled in only one direction.

Your obvious bias notwithstanding, I believe your assessment is correct.

Hi Jafre,

Nice article. I liked your characterization of the "debate" as an "interrogation"... Spot on.

Perry scored points with me, for unabashedly using my favorite description of S.S. as a Ponzi scheme. Still think Americans have no idea how much money properly invested is worth (during most periods) over forty and fifty years. They have NO IDEA how much is being stolen from them by this one program.
