Fred Thompson - "At the proverbial crossroads."

Fred said this over the radio airwaves yesterday, and he may not know just how right he is.

Former Senator Fred Thompson has a soothing, almost Presidential voice. Unlike other nationally known political leaders of both parties, and the present President, Fred's voice barely rises above a constant monotone. That's not to say there are not inflections in his tone, or passion in what he says. It's just that Fred does not seem compelled to explode with volume or wild rants. Instead he speaks in a calm, deliberatesoftly southern country stylewhich gives the listener the impression of deep thought and a degree of wisdom in his words. I don't listen to him often. Maybe I should.

Last week, filling in for Sean Hannity, Fred said that America is "at the proverbial crossroads." Fred is right. We have President Obama to thank for this. And I mean that in sincerely. It is the President who had the courage of his convictions. He is a liberal - socialist. He proclaims it in everything he does, from Obama Care to his attacks on the rich and his call for increased taxation, more laws, and teh redistribution of wealth. Obama has done what many other men in his position have failed to do, he has taken a stand, he has planted his standard, and he has not backed off, even when beaten badly at the polls. I disagree with almost everything President Obama has done, but I give him credit for being what he said would be, a LIBERAL. And, a man of action. If he can get it through Congress, like Obama Care, he does. If he can't, like military intervention in Libya or amnesty for illegals, then he does it another way. But he does it. Not since Ronald Reagan have we seen a man as dedicated to his ideology.

President Obama and the Democrats have been negligent in their official duties. The nation has not passed a budget since President Obama took office. Instead, the Obama administration, and the Democrats made expensive commitments like Obama Care and bail outs. No taxes were raised. No increased revenues. Nope, just new legislative promises and mandates and added debt.

Now we, you, have a choice to make.

No nation on earth has proven that socialism will produce economic prosperity. No leader on earth has used socialism to bring much to his people. Some nations in western Europe have adopted a socialist form of government and economics. Germany and the Scandinavian countries have done the best with it. But like a governor on a car, socialism limits possibilities.

Socialism is by its very nature, negative in its view of life and reflect slack of faith in God. This is a vital component of socialism. A nation of socialism sees man as the ultimate provider, not God. Socialism has rejected God as a kind and merciful being capable of improving the condition of all. Instead, socialism sees God as either non-existent orimpotent in providing for the people. Socialism hails the intelligence of man and man's ability to meet the needs of all. Freedom and liberty are second to materialism and meeting the basic needs of the least productive citizens. Power is vested in the state. And like capitalism, socialismis a global ideology. Both systems feel they must embrace the world. They cannot survive within the confines of the state.

Fred told us yesterday, that America is at the crossroads. In fact, we may already have passed the crossroads. It maybe that we now realize we have already crossed over from a nation of individual citizens to a nation of community. Social security is the single most important bench mark. It is here that the nation decided it was a better planner for our old age than we were. It is here that the state began to consume large parts of our income. And it is here that the state demonstrated that it could not control itself once in possession of our dollars, it had to spend it. And now, we know its going broke. Now we see the government pushingback the age of retirement. Is the government cutting social security to drug addicts at any age? Does the government say that it must repeal and stop disability payments to those too high on drugs to work? NO. The government will not relinquish ground it has taken. Instead, it will just reduce expenditures by taking money for the aged. that's fair, right? Your money, you earned it...but hey, redistribution of wealth, right?

Obama Care and the federal Department of Education will add massive new spending, and therefore, massive new taxes unless things change.

The present negotiations over raising the debt ceiling should deal with the "crossroads" by repealing all the unfunded promises. We simply can't afford it. This is like sitting at the kitchen table, looking at all the credit bills while your spouse talks about brand new, expensive ideas. There is simply no way.
