Distraction is a huge part of American politics. All the media, including the conservative hound dogs are barking about bin Laden....wanna bet the debt ceiling passes quietly...almost unnoticed. by Mark Vogl

Eight months, Eight months is how long we knew where bin Laden was. So why did it take so long? Is President Obama naturally slow at making decisions? Is he a procrastinator? Was he afraid to make a decision, but forced into it by being afraid not to make a decision? Does it take eight months to plan a 25 man raid with the intent to assassinate?
How ‘bout this theory?
The raising of the debt ceiling is a pivotal moment on Obama's firs term. Without the Republican House it won't happen. So for once the Republicans are actually important in a major decision. In my view, the House Leadership is in the driver seat. They hold the cards. If they did nothing, and just sat to the side, there is a real chance efforts to raise the debt ceiling would fail. So the House leadership has political gravity on their side. And without raising the debt ceiling, a whole bunch of unknowns enter the picture just as we enter the 2012 Presidential campaign season. If we dont raise the ceiling, decisions and actions will have to be taken. For once, government would have to live under the same rules and reality as the rest of us. It would have to make real choices, bread or gasoline?
Now let's look back at recent history. Illegal immigration and immigration reform.. That whole effort died because of (in part) the huge audiences of Limbaugh - Hannity and the continuous attention and rallying cry those conservative hound dogs brought to the issue. For once, the people spoke and it echoed in Washington. And by doing so it proved the power of talk radio as a player in running our nation.
And of course there is the main stream media. Not anywhere near as influential, but fighting for their lives, they too might have to actually cover the debt ceiling debate if there weren't anything else to cover. Enter, stage left, the successful raid in Pakistan. The media is tossed a bone and they run with it. Now Obama goes to New York to stir up the memories of nationalism and sacrifice of September 11th.
Meanwhile the clock ticks silently on debt ceiling. Behind closed doors the ruling elite pressure the House leadership, threatening them with financial collapse if we don't raise the debt ceiling. Meanwhile behind another set of closed doors the White House and Senate try to devise more smoke and mirrors on what sacrifces will made...what magical cuts will be tied to the raising of the ceiling.
In the movie Patton one scene illustrates exactly what should be happening in the Republican House...but is not. The allies have landed on Sicily, Montgomery’s Brits are tied up and not moving, to help them, the Allied Commander Alexander takes road, a major road from Patton's Army and gives it to the Brits to provide them maneuver space to get moving. As Patton's senior commanders discuss the move Patton explodes in frustration....shouting " Messina, it's all about Messina!!!!". Than he says, "now you know what i am going to do?" and he goes on to lay out his plan to beat Montgomery to Messina.
We are at a crossroads, just as Patton was in that scene. The issue is the debt ceiling, but the real issue is Obama Care. The Republicans were elected to repeal Obama Care. This is the crossroads. The house Leadership must act now. The gauntlet must be thrown. We will trade raising the debt ceiling for the complete repeal of Obama Care by both Houses and signed by the President first. We have our position. This is the citadel. This is the place to make your stand.
Limbaugh, Hannity and the rest of the conservative hound dogs should be read in, and then let loose. Here's the fight. This is the battle.
I will make this prediction. If Obama Care is not challenged here and now, it will never be.

I agree that killing Bin Laden was a purely political move, and a botched one at that (destroying the evidence - pissed off Americans AND Muslims!).
However, the timing was NOT that great for Obama! I'm sure he WAS hoping this would distract Americans from the REAL issues that we are facing - a floundering economy and the debt ceiling. BUT, thanks to Wikileaks, Obama had NO CHOICE but to kill Bin Laden when he did - the info about his location had just been leaked. Within days both Bin Laden and the world would have known where he was, so he would have fled and Obama would have been politically DESTROYED! Obama killed Bin Laden to save his own butt!
Lucky for us, the media has a SHORT attention span! The Bin Laden story gets two weeks of wall-to-wall media coverage at best. There have been way too many screw-ups as it is, so what COULD have been a clean take-down of Bin Laden turned into different stories from the Pentagon and White House over what really happened. That does NOT help Obama. And treating the American People like a bunch of Kindergarteners by not releasing the pictures does not help Obama either.
The media relies on ratings, and this story cannot command viewership if the media tries to focus on Bin Laden at the expense of Economic Reality. The American People live in the REAL WORLD, and if the media ignores the high unemployment rate, high gas prices and extreme inflation, ALL caused by the Federal Reserve manipulating the marketplace and our excessive DEBT, then the people just won't tune in. The ratings already prove that - only Fox News ISN'T in the tank for Obama, and that has caused it's ratings to skyrocket while ALL the other networks and and cable news channels' ratings are DOWN THE TANK!
Say what you will about Fox News, I had boycotted them for 6 months after they went over-board anti-Ron Paul during the last election cycle. But, I had NO CHOICE but to return once the 2008 Republican Primary was over - ALL the other network and cable news channels became anti-Clinton ObamaBOTS, and the LIES about the Clinton's being racists was the last straw. I had no choice but to watch Fox just to see fair coverage of the Democrat Primary (and prior to Obama I was the biggest Hillary Hater on the planet).
The state of the American Economy is a legitimate news story that CANNOT be IGNORED by the media! They can and DO try to SPIN the facts against the Republicans and in favor of the Big Government, Big Spending Democrats, but the American People are NOT STUPID! They understand revenue vs. debt, and they know that THEY cannot just keep borrowing from Peter to pay Paul, so they DO understand the importance of raising the Debt Ceiling.
Sadly, Fox News and Fox Business are the only networks accurately covering economic reality. Even CNBC twists reality by focusing only on the Stock Market - yeah, TRADERS can benefit from a skewed economy and BIG BUSINESS can benefit from a skewed economy, but in the REAL WORLD economic realities always come back to bite you in the butt!
If the media continues to provide biased coverage of the real world just to save Obama, they are doing nothing more than sealing their own DEATH WARRANTS!
As for Republicans, they must learn to IGNORE the MEDIA, and talk to REAL AMERICANS and explain WHY the Debt Ceiling CANNOT be raised! The problem with politicians is that they seem to lack the ability to explain complicated economics to people in layman's terms. Even I have a hard time explaining things to my mother without using pie charts and graphs! And people really HATE pie charts and graphs! That is why Ron Paul has a hard time getting across to "Ordinary" Americans. People need simple, real world "Bread and Butter" examples that they can relate to.
Of course, the Republicans also must STAND TALL against the imported boots-on-the-ground Professional Left when they hold Town Hall meetings. The Unions and other Leftist organizations have been filling Republican Town Halls with Professional Protestors, and the media covers the attacks against Paul Ryan's Budget Plan as if the protestors are ordinary Americans. The Republicans must go in EXPECTING these ASSAULTS, and ARM THEMSELVES with the FACTS and real-world examples so they can take on the Professional Left in a real debate, in front of ordinary Americans, and allow the Left to fall flat on their face! With the internet and everything caught on tape, the media's editing out the full conversation no longer works, so the Republicans need to go in prepared for a full-frontal assault, and post the evidence online for all to see.
As for killing ObamaCare in exchange for raising the Debt Ceiling, NO WAY! Obama would definitely veto that, and the Republicans just do not have the votes to overturn the veto. NO, the Republicans must DEMAND spending cuts - cut spending back to 2008 levels! NO if's, and's, or but's! And pass a Balanced Budget Bill ang get it signed into LAW by Obama! Then, and ONLY THEN, will Republicans vote to increase the Debt Ceiling.
