Trump and Tariff's, (a bad word now, not so bad in Lincoln's time!)

A tariff is a tax on an import, or an export. In our earlier days the US used tariffs for it's own purposes, to help build American industries, to bring revenues to the federal treasury.

Donald Trump has crossed a line, and now the conservative media is turning on him.  What line?

If Democrats are about socialism and environmentalism, Republicans and many talk show hosts are about globalism and un restrained capitalism.  The problem is, neither are focused on America, our future, and what is good for the people within the borders of the United States.

When Trump first burst on the scene, conservative talk show hosts raved about his rise in the polls and said the reason for his ballooning popularity was Trump's fearlessness in attacking President Obama and the Democrats.  Limbaugh, Beck and others also said that Trump was talking about issues that other Republican candidates were ignoring.  They cited the issue of the missing birth certificate as an example.

But then Trump crossed the line.  A businessman, an American businessman operating in the global economy and making billions, Trump spoke about China, how they were not friends of America, and were winning hugely at the world bargaining table in terms of economics.  Trump went to the next step and said he would impose a .... tariff!  (Worse then a four letter word in the globalist community.)   Limbaugh reacted with caution immediately, saying Trump had not polished his positions yet, and that conservatives won't support tariffs. (This conservative would, not only support, but thinks regainig the American marketplace for American business is vital to the future of our nation.)

Conservative politicos watched to see if Trump would moderate his position after the warnings were aired, he did not.  And now the buzz saw of the conservative talk shows has turned against Trump.  Beck, whose audience could have large segments of Christians listening featured Trump in Las Vegas (America's Sodom) playing small cuts of Trump speeches which featured foul language.  These were played several times in order to demonstrate that Trump uses foul language routinely.  And then another cut was played which highlighted Trump's weak understanding of Christianity and the reverence given to the Bible.  These reports were then followed by comments about the tariff.

Beck, who builds his credibility on a deep Christian faith and his knowledge of the history of the founding of America, has a blind eye to many of "sins" of the northern founders.  Beck has refused to see the northern connection to slavery, in terms of trade!  It was the Europeans and the New England merchants who brought the slaves to America, attempted to employ them in the north, and then sold them south.  It was the north who wanted slaves to be counted as 3/5's a person in the Constitution in order to increase the tax liability of the Southern states.  (Few Americans know that originally the federal government placed tax burdens on each state, rather than on individuals.)  And it was New England and other northern manufacturing states which imposed tariffs on the export of cotton, and on the import of manufactured goods.  The South, being an agricultural region producing raw materials and looking to minimize large cities in its region were the first American Free Traders.  The Constitution of the Confederacy was built on an early form of "globalism."  Tariffs were an essential and fundamental tool used in the 1800's to build the American industrial infrastructure and economy.

Many times Limbaugh and other conservative talk show hosts talk about the ruling elite.  They cite the unity of the main stream media with the Democrats.  They place a light on the RINO's (Republicans in Name Only) who support of the liberal agenda as part of the ruling elite.  But unfortunately, they (the conservative talk show hosts) don't seem to realize they are part of the ruling elite too.  They have their ideological guide posts which include free trade (which results in economic globalism), and a defense of Israel and continued presence in the Middle East, which impose specific demands on the American people.  The conservative free trade mantra, combined with the left's social programs and support of unions have combined to destroy America industry and driven entire segments of the American economy overseas.

Trump has become a problem for the "conservative ruling elite."  Trump as a successful American business man has crossed the line.  He has looked at the present reality, seen first hand what is hurting America, and low and behold, some of it is a conservative blind faith in world capitalism.  The conservatives have the same problem as the liberals, they refuse to see how things change, and what was a good policy is no longer a good policy.  For the conservatives it is their commitment to Free trade and economic globalism.  The conservatives have finally embraced the idea that America needs to be self-sufficient in terms of oil, and gas.  It took decades for them to get here.  It took 4 dollar a gallon gas and a Democrat in the White House for them to finally move to "Drill Here, Drill Now."

i am not a Trump Supporter.  I am a Palin Supporter.  But, Donald Trump has important things to say which can help illustrate the real needs of our nation and our people.  He has a perspective unique among those in the national debate. As a Christian I cannot support his foul language. As a Christian I cannot support some of his social positions.  But as an American i can praise him for saying what needs to be said in terms of building the next American economy.
