The Federal government is the problem, headed in the wrong direction on almost every conceivable issue!
150 years ago an entire region of the nation wanted to leave, today it seems their instincts may have been right! by Mark Vogl

Putting aside slavery, the South seceded from the Union for a number reasons including:
a. A belief that God was a partner in governing the nation.
b. That the states delegated a very small amount of their authority to the federal government. Infrastructure improvement was NOT part of those powers.
c. That free trade should be allowed, tariffs reduced.
d. That the President should be the leader, especially concerning budget issues. President should have line item veto.
e. Congress should not have earmarks, nor could the federal government bail out industry.
f. That states had the right leave the union, manifesting the principle of "consent of the governed."
g. Government spending was essentially controlled by the Executive branch. In the Confederate Constitution, 2/3's of both houses was required to raise just one dollar above the President's budget. This one change placed the people squarely in the debate, because they could voice their support for more or less spending through their vote for President.
h. That sovereignty comes from God, to the people, to the states and from the states to the federal government. As opposed to the norther view, sovereignty come from the people, to the federal government.
The Founders of the Confederate Constitution seemingly had a time telescope where they could look one hundred and fifty years into the future, see the problems we have today, and then write a Constitution to prevent those problems.
Conservative talk show hosts like Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Levine and Savage won't talk about this. It's too close to the slavery issue, and thus in the politically correct world, racist.
Thus slavery, and African American sensitivity has blocked real discussion about much of why the South left. In effect, slavery has been like a psychological black hole, where the event horizon for a discussion of the civil war begins and end with racism...all the other issues, real issues, issues which are destroying our nation today, are ignored.
America is out of control. Congress, the Courts, and treaties all impose their will on the American people.
The American people? Referendums by the people, are more often than not set aside by the Courts, We no longer live in a nation where the majority rules. but where minorities, whether they be the ruling elite, special interests, or some hidden conspiratorial group control what is law, and what the federal government spends.
The American people have fought wars overseas to preserve to their freedom. Today, the American military fight three wars half way across the world, but we can't guard our own border, and the Courts have moved t block states from doing what the federal government should be doing!
One of the great problems with our nation is that less than half the people vote. Elected people don't want 100% voter participation. The ruling elite doesn't want the people to control America. Elections are a bother, an obstacle to their efforts to get things done.
The result is a government which imposes things like homosexual marriage, a moral tragedy, and something which has been defeated more than a dozen times in referendum!
The federal government is blocking domestic energy exploration and development, (as gasoline rises above 4 dollars per gallon) and subsidizes corporations moving jobs overseas! We offer open borders to goods made in nations that place restrictions on US goods entering their nation! Our own policies put America out of work! False science is the foundatin for US policy which is raising the cost of everything!
And the Democrats are setting aside the Constitution. They make fun of the new Congressmen elected by the people, they reject the restraints of the Constitution, as they did with the passage of Obama Care. The new Tea Party Congress rejects deficit spending of endless spending.
As we progress in time, if the Tea party is not able to reverse the bloated, unfinanced expansion of the federal government, then only secession will be left as a political response
