Texas Governor Perry - a fraud on illegal immigration

Last year Arizona had the courage to pass law enforcing US law - Texas has not followed!

Former Governor Mike Huckabee was in East Texas yesterday, in Tyler, to promote his book, and his possiblerun for the GOP nomination.

But like Governor Rick Perry, Huckabee is not tough on illegal immigration or on sealing the border.  And this has to be a litmus test for the GOP nominee.

Down here in Texas, and in the other states along the US - Mexican border private property rights are all but non-existent along the border as Mexicans cross the border to set and control routes for illegal drugs, immigrants and anything else.  The action taken by Arizona last year was because the federal government has absolutely abandoned its responsibility to protect our border. This abandonment has been the same whether Republican or Democrat is President!

We are at war in two nations across the globe because of the threat of terrorism, but we can't protect our own border!  If it were up to me, the first money spent on defense of America would be at our borders and coastline. Defense starts from border,

Rick Perry, who is a dark house aspirant for the GOP Presidential nomination has falsely pretended to the nation that he is tough on the border! Nothing could be further from the truth. Perry has done nothing! He did nothing during the great controversy over Arizona's law. Did he stand up with the Arizona governor when she was under national public scrutiny about their law?  No...he was soooo far away he could have been with Obama on vacation in Hawaii!

Perry was an advocate of the Trans Texas corridor, a plan to build a New Jersey Turnpike type road from Mexico through Texas towards the center of America. This would provide a high speed ground avenue from Mexico to settle the heartland of America with Mexicans!

The plan died a long death when both the Republican controlled State Senate and House would NOT SUPPORT it.  The average Texan was adamant in opposition. So to win re-election as governor, Perry abandoned his support...atleast for now. But Perry is Bush picked globalist. He is not what we need in terms of national leadership on these issues.

Perry has been something of a fiscal conservative, and deserves some credit here. He has turned down federal bail out money, we didn't need it.   He has held the line on teacher pay and benefits.  So Texas isn't in as much financial trouble as other states like New York, California or Wisconsin.

I remain committed to Sarah Palin.  She is our best hope.  But whoever gets the GOP nomination must see Mexico as the single largest threat to national security. Our border is suffering a war where 30,000 people have died. Americans have lost control of their property if it borders Mexico. The main stream media have completely ignored this story... it only surfaces when the most outrageous things happen. For example, Phoenix is now the kid nap capital of America as Mexicans import this type of crime to America.

If any of these new rookie politicians like Christi or Walker, or any of the old Pros are running for office, the GOP primary electorate must make SEALING THE BORDER as a major campaign promise.

Perry is right here in the middle of it. Its his state which is enduring some of the worst of this invasion. He is soft on it. He is not a realistic choice.

Noticed an error in your article with the following statement: "But like Governor Rick Perry, Huckabee is not tough on illegal immigration or on sealing the border." This is incorrect. Actually, Governor Huckabee has the best immigration plan going and has had for a number of years. The media tends to distort and twist it to fit their agenda, but is having less success since many people have taken time to see what his plan actually is. Duncn Hunter and Jim Gilchrist are 2 of the strongest anti- illegal immigration proponents anywhere today and strongly back Governor Huckabee's plan as does Chuck Norris, Ted Nugent, Marco Rubio and a whole host of others. For your readers, here is a simple outline.

Overview: Implement a broad-based strategy that commits the resources of the federal government to the enforcement of our immigration laws and results in the attrition of the illegal immigrant population.

1. Build the Fence

Ensure that an interlocking surveillance camera system is installed along the border by July 1, 2010. Ensure that the border fence construction is completed by July 1, 2010.

2. Increase Border Patrol

Increase the number of border patrol agents. Fully support all law enforcement personnel tasked with enforcing immigration law.

3. Prevent Amnesty

Policies that promote or tolerate amnesty will be rejected. Propose to provide all illegal immigrants a 120-day window to register with the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services and leave the country. Those who register and return to their home country will face no penalty if they later apply to immigrate or visit; those who do not return home will be, when caught, barred from future reentry for a period of 10 years.

4. Enforce the Law on Employers

Employment is the chief draw for most illegal immigrants and denying them jobs is the centerpiece of an attrition strategy. Impose steep fines and penalties on employers that violate the law. Institute a universal, mandatory citizenship verification system as part of the normal hiring process. Prevent the IRS and the Social Security Administration from accepting fraudulent Social Security numbers or numbers that don't match the employees' names.*

5. Establish an Economic Border

Move toward passage of the FairTax. The FairTax provides an extra layer of security by creating an economic disincentive to immigrate to the U.S. illegally.

6. Empower Local Authorities

Promote better cooperation on enforcement by supporting legislative measures such as the CLEAR Act, which aims to systematize the relationship between local law and federal immigration officials. Encourage immigration-law training for police. Local authorities must be provided the tools, training, and funding they need so local police can turn illegal immigrants over to the federal authorities.

7. Ensure Document Security

End exemptions for Mexicans and Canadians to the US-VISIT program, which tracks the arrival and departure of foreign visitors. Since these countries account for the vast majority of foreigners coming here (85 percent), such a policy clearly violates Congress' intent in mandating this check-in/check-out system. Reject Mexico's "matricula consular" card, which functions as an illegal-immigrant identification card.

8. Discourage Dual Citizenship

Inform foreign governments when their former citizens become naturalized U.S. citizens. Impose civil and/or criminal penalties on American citizens who illegitimately use their dual status (e.g., using a foreign passport, voting in elections in both a foreign country and the U.S.).

9. Modernize the Process of Legal Immigration

Eliminate the visa lottery system and the admission category for adult brothers and sisters of U.S. citizens. Increase visas for highly-skilled and highly-educated applicants. Expedite processing for those who serve honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces. Improve our immigration process so that those patiently and responsibly seeking to come here legally will not have to wait decades to share in the American dream. Governor Huckabee has always been grateful to live in a country that people are trying to break into, rather than break out of.

I'm sure that you want to have a reputation for telling the truth and not spinning things to further your own agenda. Mike Huckabee's new book "A Simple Government" states exactly what his view is on immigation in chapter 8. I recommend you read it so that you are well informed before making rash statements.

Page 134 - "We need to get our own house in order and stop accepting that we can build an economy on the backs of illegal immigrants living in a shadow society. That's not an economy: it's a delusion. So let's be clear ... it's about enforcing the law. Legal immigration makes our country stronger, while illegal immigration could prove to be our undoing." "No more Amnesty"

Page 135 - "The 1986 amnesty law gave us triple the number of illegals over the course of the following 20 years."

Page 137 - Regarding the Arizona law, "What the Arizona law does is obligate a law enforcement officer, when making a lawful stop, detention or arrest, to make an attempt to determine that person's immigration status if there is probable cause... This is Arizona trying to step in and get the job done where the feds are not."

Page 140 - "In 2006, Congress voted to build a fence along our border with Mexico... President Obama halted that work in 2010. We must finish the fence." "Illegals must view our border not as an obstacle to overcome but as a dead end with no opportunity on the other side." He realizes that a fence is not enough.

If you are a effective and thorough journalist, I suggest you do your homework and get all of the facts before making false statements. If you care about your reputation I suggest you make a correction to your work. With all respect, it would be the honorable thing to do.

You might be interested in reading Governor Huckabee's latest book, a policy book that speaks of government's responsibilities at all levels. It's title: A Simple Government--Twelve Things We Really Need from Washington (and a Trillion That We Don't!).

Regarding amnesty, under a section called No More Amnesty, Huckabee writes:

"The American people have been burned by the failed immigration reforms of 1965 and 1986, which didn't seal our border and only made the problem worse. Amnesty doesn't just reward those who have broken our laws; it encourages more people to come. If we don't take our own laws seriously, why should those who want to come here? Having been duped before, the American people loudly and angrily rejected yet another amnesty bill when it was on the table in 2007--Congress got an earful and quickly backed off.

"But it pushed the same poison again in 2010. Typically, when someone from Washington talks about 'immigration reform,' they're talking about amnesty. The 'blueprint' presented by Senator Chuck Schumer of New York in April 2010 was just the same old Democrat call. He wanted illegals currently here to pay a fine and back taxes and then have a 'provisional status' for eight years. Amnesty was and is always a terrible idea. Think about it--if you let it be known that there is a program whereby once you're in the country you'll be allowed to stay, what message does that send to someone contemplating an illegal border crossing? Get in at all costs! Once you're here, you'll be set." (Pg. 135)

Huckabee opposes amnesty and supports Arizona's law to obligate a law enforcement officer, when making a lawful stop, detention, or arrest, "to make an attempt to determine a person's immigration status if there is probable cause to suspect the person is an alien not in possession of the required legal documents. Basically," he writes, "it tasks state and local law enforcement with helping enforce federal immigration law. This is Arizona trying to step in and get the job done where the feds are not. It's a strategy called 'attrition through enforcement,' and to me it sounds an awful lot like plain old law enforcement." (Pg 136-137)

Please take another look at Mike Huckabee's stance on immigration. I've followed him for years, read all his books including his latest--and he has never wavered from his strong support of strong borders, strong enforcement of immigration laws, NO amnesty for illegals, and our autonomy as a nation. Nobody is more in favor of protecting our borders than Mike Huckabee.

I was going to correct you on Gov. Huckabee, but looks like that's been done already. Not sure how you can be so far off base.
I notice the name now. This isn't the same Vogl that caused the district to go to the Democrat Donnelly by splitting the vote is it?
Splitting the votes always hurts conservatives. Ugh. Anyway, I don't know about Perry, but you got it really wrong on Huckabee.

I have not been too impressed with Gov. Perry and, I am from Texas.. I did vote for him simple because there was not another choice... I do believe he has done some things that was good for Texas.. Ilegal immigration is certainly not one of them. But, you have it wrong about Gov. Mike Huckabee.. The best way to stop illegals is to stop the Americans from hiring them... Huckabee would do that ... He is one in a million.. The politician that cannot be bought and, will not sell out the American people. He would take the job seriously and, would bring America back ...to the American people...

The only reason I voted for McCain was because of Sarh Palin.. She was a lot better than who, I thought he would pick.. As usual... we did not have any good choices after Huckabee dropped out.. I like Sarah Palin but I think her popularity has gone to her head and, she is not the same person..... anymore...

I was thrilled that Gov. Huckabee stayed in the primaries till he got to Texas.. I was so proud to cast my vote... If he decides to run.... I will be behind him all the way... Our country is in a lot of trouble and, we have got to elect a candidate that can bring our country back... Everyone, don't let the media tell you who to vote for... They are going to be for the one that shells out the most money... Huckabee did not buy any one's vote and, look how for a honest man got in the primaries.. If we want a great president lets get one that has not been bought and, paid for...

Think again about what Mike Huckabee is saying and help him. Ronald Reagan did not stop the flow of illegal aliens across the border. It is time for all Americans to get back to work and improve our country. We/America cannot be successful with cheap/illegal labor and cheap imports. Seal the border to both cheap/unfair imports and illegal aliens and start manufacturing again in the United States.

Please investigate the sources listed here and then print a retraction of your comments against Governor Huckabee. If you want to be taken seriously, you must be factual. Your comments are not.

Simply put, I know that Jim Gilchrist, the President of the Minutemen, is a strong supporter of Gov. Huckabee and his immigration policies. Will all due respect, Mr. Vogl, this would not be the case if the information presented in this article were accurate. As mentioned by others above, Gov. Huckabee also has the backing of Duncan Hunter, Ted Nugent, and Chuck Norris. As Gov. Huckabee said in an '08 campaign ad, his plan for securing the border can be summed up in two words: Chuck Norris! I think that sounds like a great plan!

I concur with all the comments above concerning Governor Huckabee's strong stance on immigration. All through out his tenure as governor and his 2008 presidential campaign Governor Huckabee has consistently stood by his Secure America Plan as stated by That Man above. I suggest you recheck your sources of information and get some that actually give you accurate, creditable, and factual information in order for you to be taken seriously. I agree with everything Mr. Vogl stated about Gov. Rick Perry and his stance on immigration. However, he ran off the tracks with his statement about Gov. Mike Huckabee. Vogl had just mentioned Gov. Huckabee's book tour, promoting his book, A Simple Government. To be credible, it would have been a good idea if Vogl had actually read the book before making any comment about Gov. Huckabee's immigration policy. Chapter 8, page 131 would be a good place to start. The chapter is titled, Good Fences Make Good Neighbors. Vogl's statement about Gov. Huckabee's immigration policies are in direct conflict with what Gov. Huckabee writes in his book, and what he has pushed for years.
