Wisconsin takes center stage in US politics for 2012

Limbaugh did it again! He laid out the case why Wisconsin means everything to the liberals.

Limbaugh really understands what is occurring and accurately pointed to Wisconsin as the political center of gravity for Obama's future.

Wisconsin has been a blue state in Presidential elections for many years.  The issue being wrestled with in Wisconsin is similar to what will occur in many other states.  The state is in financial trouble.  With a poor economy, and fiscally conservative Tea Party Republicans in control in the House, there is little chance the states will be bailed our by increased deficit spending in Washington.  In fact, its possible, the state will lose revenues they may have counted on, as the Republicans slash deficits in Washington.

So the fight will be in each state capitol. Will the states raise taxes, or will they finally move to trim expenditures?  And will they go after the root of much of the inflation in government spending, unions?

For many years, the government unions, teachers, police, state, and local have been powerful political forces.  Unlike conservative voters, the unions remain after the crisis is over.  When the conservatives go home, the unions go to work on the legislators.  As times improve, and revenues come in the unions divide them up like pieces of pie.

So Madison is truly pivotal.  Republicans have been swept into the state houses as a result of Obama care.  People look to them to hold the line, to change course.  In Madison, Governor Walker, like Christie in New Jersey made some tough decisions.  In Wisconsin there is a Republican majority to enact the decisions.  The Democrats in the Senate in a last ditch effort abandoned the state, bringing national attention to them.

A basic stratagem in politics is delay. If you can hold off a vote, something could change.  And with time the erosive effects of special interests are given time to work on legislators,  In this case, one Republican State Senator has already offered a weaker version of the Governor's proposal.  With time, the weaker senators can be worked on.  So the Democrats delay.

So now the question is are the Republicans up to the fight?  Do they have tacticians and strategists smart enough to hold together the Republican majority while they also scheme to develop a means to get the Democrats into the Senate Chamber?

For Obama, a loss could be as good as a win. If the Democrats make a huge fight of it. If resources are used, and if Obama can appear to be in solidarity with the poor down trodden state workers, he will plant loyalty seeds should there be a primary, which right now seems unlikely.  But 18 months is a long time.

Time will tell.  There's a lot riding in Madison, the future of a nation possibly.
