College Students Are Learning Nothing!

This article is about some of the problems in our colleges that need to be fixed if we want our kids to get their money's worth.

When I went to school, there was a plethora of courses offered to satisfy my interests: Education, Economics, Sociology, Simpsons and Philosophy. I know what you're thinking. You are probably thinking, "Wait a minute. What did you say?" No, that last one wasn't offered when I went to school. Unfortunately, it is now at the University of California at Berkeley. Personally, I like to refer to Berkeley as the Revolutionary Ideas Capital of America because it seems that the city, particularly the university, is full of wonderful ideas. Right? I have to ask: what good would it do to take a course in Simpsons and Philosophy? Honestly. I don't see many people asking for people to apply for a job that involves an expertise in the field on "The Simpsons." And that is just one of the many brilliant mistakes our colleges have made.

Up at the University of Oregon, most of the Social Sciences professors are liberals and a miniscule amount are conservative thinkers. I thought college was supposed to be the place where you get to experience a lot of everything. When I went to Princeton, I did encounter a lot of liberals. However, there was a great amount diversity in political thought and culture. How are our kids supposed to experience things when the colleges are purposefully picking the same guys to teach our children. No, I do not believe it is a coincidence that they are all liberal and if you believe that liberals are just naturally smarter please do not comment because I do not want to read anything that is close-minded. It is all a part of the liberal agenda; the indoctrination of the children is vital to their existence because when you get down to it, much of conservative thought produces results. That's not my opinion, that is my experience talking.

College students, like their lower teenage counterpart, like to text and talk about stuff that doesn't matter. They will be on the computer all night long on Facebook updating their status rather than finishing that report that is due the next day or studying for an upcoming test. In fact, a recent survey reported by USA Today showed that the average college student socialized 51% of the time while at college. Only 9% was devoted to the classroom and 7% was appropriated for studying. Adding everything up, only 25% of college time is devoted to work while 75% is devoted to talking, texting, e-mailing, and sleep. I don't want to believe it, but then again I am not surprised.

How can we solve these problems? It is simple. First, when we help our kids find the right college, find one that has diversity. Though I am right-leaning, I am not going to suggest a conservative school. A school with diversity will open up your kid to new ideas and dreams. Right now, my oldest child is looking for the right college. When I help him, I am thinking about what is best for his future and I want him to flourish in whatever college he picks. I provide him with my experience and everything I can give. I know a lot of parents already do that, but there is still more work to be done.

My message is simple: please warn your children that wherever they go, they will see people doing things that are not smart or people who will oppose your beliefs. Tell them to remember who they are and that they can grow without radically transforming. If we parents can band together, our children will have a beautiful future ahead.

Thank you to all who read this. It doesn't matter if you agreed or disagreed with me. The whole point of this article is to put focus on the fact that there is a problem with colleges and that our kids' education is the most important thing to think about, especially to those who are about to enter college. Thanks again.
