Tax cuts are not enough for a national vision. by Mark Vogl

The world and the nation have changed since the end of the Cold War and neither political party has done a good job of:
a. Visualizing the changes and articulating those to the nation.
b. Creating a new American role in the Post Cold War
c. Devising a new national purpose, new goals.
The Democrat - socialists have just carried forward socialism, enhanced it with technology and sold it to the American people. The Democrat - Socialists include most of the political elite in both parties. There really isn't much of a conservative political elite. Some may pretend that the Tea Party is the creation of that new conservative political core. Maybe, we'll see.
But, there needs to be a new American conservative core anchored in Christian churches, American small business, American family owned agriculture, and small town America. We need a conservative academia, one which knows its American history, and one which can see a different world and a different America. This academia should not be smitten with "diversity" and "human secularism." And it should be larger than a few small colleges. But the heart of the new conservative vision should not come from professors, but from those who must make it work, who must live its principles.
And this new conservativism should be American, not some BBC extension. We are not British, we are no longer a colony, and we should stop with carrying their water. The UK has lost its own nation, we don't need to follow them.
Conservatives must see the new world for what it is. We are in a world of 200 nations and several ideologies, where technology is equalizing military strength. Some want to follow the British model and westernize the leaders of the third world... But this westernization is the essence of much of the violence in the world. Some people just don't like their culture, religion, and nationalism marginalized.
We are now a multi polar world, where China and India, and other nations not located in Europe are rising the fore.
Instead of homogenizing the world, why not really celebrate diversity by appreciating difference. If a nation wants to be Moslem, so be it. If another nation wants to limit western influence within their own borders...so be it.
But America must also refocus on itself. Our goal should be the City on the Hill. We should work to live our original values. We should embrace our Christianity, and use it as the basis of right and wrong, and law. We should re-institute federalism, and get the federal government out of state responsibilities like education, social services, health care, etc. We should embrace capitalism and restructure social security into a private sector venture.
American captalism must shift from market share to creating value and quality in products. More diversity in product development means more engineers, more production lines, more blue collar labor and more investment opportunities where not as much initial capital is needed, and where individual gains are not quite as massive, spreading the wealth.
For the Republicans, they need to see the world in a new light, devise a new American paradigm, articulate that new vision, and act in Congress to make it so. With only one House they will fail, but in trying they will demonstrate there is another road.
