"I was heartbroken by the news of the death of my brother in liberty David Nolan. Not only have I lost a mentor and a dear friend, all Libertarians have lost a man who was the soul and essence of the Libertarian Party. Every Libertarian lost a friend when David Nolan died.
"I first met David a decade ago, when I became involved in the Libertarian national party leadership. I knew him as a mentor, an inspiration, a confidant and a friend in liberty. In the past year, I came to know David even closer as he and I worked on a joint business venture. I came to know that the founder of the Libertarian Party lived what he believed.
"One of the proudest moments of my life came when David nominated me to serve on the LP's Judicial Committee at the 2008 Convention in St. Louis. I was deeply humbled that this man, who embodied the heart and spirit of the Libertarian Party, had the faith and confidence in my honesty and integrity to nominate me for this important national committee of which I am now a member.
"David was a champion of the libertarian wing of the Libertarian Party. Throughout his years of activism and leadership, he never wavered in proclaiming the libertarian message without equivocation, explanation or moderation. He never once apologized for his philosophy, our philosophy the superiority of individual rights.
"David Nolan was a gifted man of vision with many interests in and out of politics. He did wonderful things with the time he spent with us, leading us, in the perpetual struggle against government intrusion on individual rights. He was an achiever; successful because of one thing more than any other he would not quit. He knew that the only way we can truly be defeated is when we quit. David Nolan never gave up hope.
"The struggle will go on because I know that is what David Nolan would want. However painful David's death may be, his untimely passing makes me even more committed and determined to restore and preserve the vision of the Libertarian Party he and a dedicated band of visionaries first articulated in his Denver living room so many years ago. In our years of association, David and I often talked about this vision a political party that boldly and fearlessly challenges the cult of the omnipotent state and defends the rights of the individual. I am determined that David's vision will never die, that the Libertarian Party will never be afraid to challenge the State and always, always defend liberty loudly, boldly and without compromise.
"David, my friend, I will miss you. Everyone who loves liberty will miss you. Rest in peace, knowing that your life has given us the inspiration, the determination and the courage to carry on the struggle for liberty. My greatest tribute to your memory is this: I will work even harder to preserve and perpetuate the philosophical principles we both held so dear. I will never forget the bound we shared in this life, a deeply passionate love of those wonderful American siblings, Liberty and Freedom."
