Captian Nemo, ET, a James Bond foe - who fired that missile?

Missile emerges 35 miles off the coast of California, and the U.S. has no idea who fired it.

I feel like I am living a movie, but which one?

A missile rises from the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California. A news helicopter films its flight, almost as if to provide irrefutable evidence that itoccured and that its not a Tea Party hoax or something.

So where is America's Department of Defense? In denial...it wasn't me, it wasn't me.  Ok, I believe you, but who was it?

With all the money we spend on defense, none of our defense systems monitor our coast and can quickly react to a missile firing?

Let me get this straight.  We should pay taxes.  We should allow the government to run a limitless credit card placing trillions of dollars of debt on us, our kids and our grandchildren.  We are fighting two wars half a world a way, but we can't guard our border, and we can't detect, find, identify and if necessary destroy ships at sea launching missies off our coast?

At first I thought I might be living a Sci Fi, or spy movie, but now I think I am living some kind of comedy, where the idea is to feature the ineptitude of the federal government.  Oh, and by the way, the federal government told us there is nothing to worry about...

But they have warned us to wear our helmets when we ride our bicycles...
