Politics in Texas, 2010

Why Republican Parry may lose the Governor's race.

Texas, redder than red, a conservative state, that is still conservative. So why is Rick Perry in trouble?

Perry's problems are those of the "old" Bushite Republican.

George Bush was the first act in twenty-first century neo conservatism.  Bush was a staunch ally of Israel, and a military reactionary to the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers.  He used September 11th to build an American case to launch two wars in the Middle East.  And then he traded every conservative position at home, to sustain the national will at home to continue the wars.  He created a whole new department, the Department of Homeland Defense.  Most conservatives thought finally, the US government might protect its border.  No such luck.  Instead we are stripped at the airport.

White knows how important this issue is, and in Perry's silence has called for 1000 new border agents.  A pitence for the problem, but atleast he touched the button.

Bush traded first the federalization of education, (No CHild Left Behind) and then the House of Representatives.  He spent on war and social programs without necessary tax increases ballooning the national debt.  Bush was a globalist who helped wreck American industry.

Rick Perry is a disciple of Bush.  From time to time, Perry will say a meaningless conservative statement, which has no policy manifestation.  Perry has done some conservative things though.  He has rejected federal money, and has kept a control on spending for public education.

In a state requiring a balanced budget, Texas has no income tax, and has an economy the rest of the country envy's.

So right now in Texas, for most, things aren't too bad, especially when compared with other states going backrupt.

But, Perry refused to join with Arizona on the border issue.  He refused to call on the national guard to guard the border,  28,000 have died along the US - Mexico border in the past three years, and Perry has been almost silent on an issue very important to Texans!

So Texas conservatives are not fired up by Perry, and probably don't fear Bill White, who isn't saying anything too liberal.

Perry like the rest of mainstream Republican Party just does not have the heart to be a real conservatives.  Perry is out of ideas, and is a tarnished hold over of Bush. Peery wanted to build a super highway known as the Trans Texas Corridor from Mexico to the American heartland. NAFTA's highway!  Strongly opposed by all Texans.

Texans know Perry's faults.  The teachers are angry at Perry. But no one except those who live in Houston know Bill White's faults.

Perry has done really nothing to define White. There seem to be little or no ads revealing why White would be a poor choice.  If White did a poor job as Houston's Mayor you would never know it through Perry's electronic media.

If White is an Obama progressive, no one has told us here in Texas.

If White is the next governor, he won't have the hearts and minds of Texas, or the legislature, ...instead, he will be our tool to get rid of an old sorry Republican, and a final good bye to George Bush II.
