A clueless guy came to our Ron Paul meetup group sporting a brown shirt and a buzz cut.

It starts like a bar joke: This neo nazi came to my Ron Paul meetup group....

Actually, I am not positive the guy is neo-nazi, but when I asked him about his brown shirt and black tie, he got awfully evasive. He then suggested that there is possibly room for "national socialists" within our movement.  Trying to be as nonconfrontational as possible, I explained to him that libertarianism is a philosophy centered on individuals, not class, religion or ethnic groups.

Maybe I should have been more forceful, but I don't think it was necessary. Our group organizer is black.  Many of our members are Mexican. Ron Paul's economic policies are based on the writings of Ludwig Von Mises and Murray Rothbard (both Jewish).  I doubt he will be at the next meeting and if he is, maybe he will find something else to wear.

Oh no, I'm a sales professional with short hair and I tend to dress well when representing my candidate in public and ALWAYS wear a tie to GOP events.  Now I gotta wonder what kind of rumors have been started about me.

The truth is, it doesn't matter who joins or attends a meetup.  Meetup attendance isn't part of the political process.   The only thing that matters in the short run is who shows up to nominate Ron Paul in your local primary or caucus.

In the long run, even that doesn't matter.  To carry on with Dr. Paul's message regardless of what happens in 2008 the only people who count are those who continue to participate in their local GOP and proceed to ensure that our candidates, starting at the county level are held accountable to the traditional conservative principles that comprise the core of Dr. Paul's message.

I don't care if someone is the most charismatic Meetup leader in the world, if they don't participate in weekly or monthly GOP meeting in their local community they really don't count at all.  If they quit such participation after this election cycle, regardless of the outcome, they really didn't have a clue what this is all about in the first place.

A political party only reflects the values of those who show up.  If you don't show up, you don't matter to the party.  There isn't a neo-nazi alive who would have the stones and the determination to actively participate in their local GOP so I wouldn't worry too much if they send a spy to your club meetings...but if they do, encourage them to participate in the primary!
