Jake Towne, independent congressional candidate in PA-15, has joined the Coalition Against War Spending and refuses to provide a single dollar to continue unconstitutional, nation-building wars abroad at a time when Congress remains unaccountable for record levels of government spending and debt. CAWS consists of 95 federal candidates and 34 organizations.
"The annual $1+ trillion military spending is not economically sustainable. Addressing the threat of suicide terrorism by the use of occupational, conventional armies has only worsened the situation at the extreme cost of hundreds of billions of dollars, hundreds of thousands of civilian dead, and 5,660 dead American soldiers. To defeat suicide terrorists one must capture the current generation and prevent the next generation from being created from collateral damage. Constitutional letters of Marque and Reprisal, which would authorize small groups to capture specific terrorists wanted for trial, would be extremely cost-effective - or we can choose to let the "War on Terror" grind on for another 9 years as our economy crashes."
While the 20-year career politician incumbent, Charlie Dent, has blindly approved war spending for all his years in office, the other Republocrat candidate, John Callahan has yet to make any statement on either the Iraq or Afghanistan wars in 13 months of campaigning. In his fundraising letters, he ominously proclaims "keeping us safe" is a priority with no elaboration whatsoever.
So, where is John Callahan on the wars? His silence is a disgrace and insult to the public he wishes to serve. I look forward to debating both Republocrats."
Towne is a chemical engineer who worked in the semiconductor industry and resigned his job to abroad in Asia to return home and run for office as an independent private citizen. Towne has promised to accept only the median household income and not enlist in the congressional health care or pension plans. The remainder of the $174,000 salary will be donated to local non-profit hospitals. He also champions sound money and a novel-yet-simple form of accountable and transparent government, "Our Open Office."
The above was released in a press release on August 26, 2010. Towne for Congress pointed out previously how the incumbent Dent's love for foreign aid spending arms most of the Middle East and rest of the world.
Jake Towne is running for U.S. Congress in Pennsylvania's 15th District in the 2010 election as a citizen unaffiliated with any political parties.
