Governor's GOP primary in New York symptomatic of democracy's failure
In New York, election politics is more about lawyers, and party leaders as representatives of established special interestes, and arcane rules...than about the will of the majority. by Mark Vogl

The present chess game being played for the governorship of New York is at a level which Bobby Fischer would admire. Lawyers, minor party leaders, and the ruling elite are in control of the process placing Rick Lazio at what may be an insurmountable disadvantage.
The "ruling elite" in New York cannot accept Rick Lazio. Lazio has the one characteristic fatal to political ambition in the Empire State, he refuses to "play the game."
Politics in New York is about getting along with the special interests...whether it be the state labor unions, the teacher's unions, the Police unions, the Gay group, certain ethnic minorities, certain religious groups. Lazio has refused to sell out to any of those groups, instead believing in an altruistic vision of public service.
So the ruling elite, which operates within both major political parties and all the secondary parties, has created an obstacle course for Lazio intended in sapping his strength, forcing him to use assets just to get to the championship contest in November.
No doubt with a million vote advantage in registration, and Andrew Cuomo as their nominee, the Democrats should feel secure, but not this time. New York's state finances are on life support from Obama. Obama's political stock is tumbling, and the elite's agenda of Gay Rights, globalism, and socialism has frayed their coalition straining it to the maximum. The recent vote in Missouri, where a 70% majority voted for opting out of Obama care demonstrates just how tenuous the Democrats position is.
For the Democrats...even in a state where they have a million vote advantage in registration, they want to set up a race for New York's top spot where they don't need a majority of 50.1 % to win.
Lazio should be running a down hill race, given Obama's unpopularity and all the baggage of the Democrats... he should have the momentum, and it should be his race to lose. But, because of the complexity of elective politics in New York, the power and cohesion of the ruling elite in New York, and the complete lack of an objective media, Lazio is fighting for his very life...and must be considered the underdog.
New York is held hostage to the convoluted political laws which govern the state. These laws, plus the power of the media, and continued chaos give the Democrats the social environment they have to have, in what is considered one of the most liberal states in the Union, to win the contest.
An in-depth study of New York's contrived democratic system would help make the case for how the hopes and aspirations of our nation's founding fathers have been completely subverted. If Lazio survives and wins in New York, he will prove he is both the equal of Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton as a politician.

Rick Lazio for liberty? What a joke, but considering your articles in the past Im not surprised. Lazio is a bailed out banker and a gun grabber. The state establishment picked Lazio like they did Dede Scozzafava, they want a "safe" candidate. Which means someone who can just beat the opposition, standing up for liberty isnt a priority.
