Obama's Primary Challenge?

A certain retiring U.S. senator has been touting his own record...and criticizing Obama. Did someone say 2012?

Obama's in trouble. Only the committed leftists dare to say otherwise. Americans are sick of his big spending policies and his disrespect for America. This seems to be following the pattern of Jimmy Carter, who lost his second term to Ronald Reagan after a divisive and bitter primary battle. Could history repeat itself?

I was surprised when earlier this year, U.S. senator Evan Bayh, one of the last remaining moderate Democrats in congress, announced his retirement from the senate. Citing "partisanship" and the far left as his reasons for not seeking re-election, he said to crowd soon after the announcement that he's "an executive at heart". Then, he starts making the rounds around all the cable news shows. Just the other night I watched him on Hannity on FNC. He was touting his record as a governor and a senator...all the while criticizing Obama. It sounds like he's in full-fledged campaign mode.

Whatever you say about Evan Bayh (he's an empty suit, he has no chance), he is an ambitious politico. He can tout his record as an experienced leader, and he could claim himself to be a sort of "new Democrat", in the British "new Labour" style.

Bayh may not be the only Democrat considering contesting Obama in the 2012 primary. His Sec. of State Hillary Clinton, after losing to him in the bitter 2008 primaries, may be emboldened by Obama's falling poll numbers. She has been complaining that the economy has been making her job harder. Of course, this leaves an opening to blame Obama for this, even though she is a part of his administration.

Obama's poll numbers are dropping faster than bricks in water. This is true even among Democrats. The question is whether or not a fellow democrat will attack him in the primary. On behalf of myself and all other conservatives/libertarians, I hope they do.
