Heroic - J. Neil Schulman

If Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" was the elementary school of a very effective education in freedom, then J. Neil Schulman's "Alongside Night" has to be the post-graduate studies course.

Feel free to thoughtlessly dismiss Neil's works if it's not up to your taste, yet understand that not only did he point out the numerous problems inherent in a state who's very existence requires force and coercion to carry out it's day-to-day operations, he also gave us an incredibly viable solution for ending the abject cruelty of it. He also appears to have hit quite close to the target as to how and more importantly why, Leviathan is on the fast track to meeting it's well deserved end.

My personal path to liberty is one that often involves chipping away bit-by-bit at the so-called "legitimacy" of Big Bother. I find that more fun than discovering gold coins in the bottom my bowl of Cap'n Crunch and an even bigger possible thrill than having Uma Thurman show up at my door wearing a hat made out of fried shrimp.

With each passing day we are given glaring signs of the lack of sustainability of gooberment in any form. The 100% voluntary "society", where force and theft have no place whatsoever, is the way of the future.

Barter communities, where goods are traded and sadly enough for Uncle Sham, he receives no Mafia-like cut of the proceeds. The state gains no power nor coin from these transactions and we are all better off because of it. Any vicious beast that requires my lifeblood to sustain it, is not my friend nor your's and it deserves to starve.

Schulman also told us of counter-economics, Agorism, and it's ways of rendering a constant supply of zero gains to our overlords. It makes Mr. Schulman look even more heroic in my book.

When you live in an era where the history books are written by statists, outright liars, masochists and other fools, you can more than expect not just a casual misunderstanding of the text, but full bore unfounded hysteria towards it.

Those who love freedom enough, plod on anyway as we neither ask for nor require the blessings of nay-sayers to achieve our task.

With Liberty,

Dan Steward
