Obama's Online Power Play

A new bill being considered by Congress, Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act (PCNAA), would allow President Obama to shut down the Internet in a national crisis or cyber attack. This comes after DHS Chief Napolitano expressed a desire to be granted power to censor or shut down the net.

The march of the police state goes on tonight, as the President and Homeland Security Chief Napolitano openly speak of shutting down the internet or severely censoring it for, of course, as always, national security concerns. While our elected leaders ponder taking us down the same road Communist China took concerning the internet and the online activities of it's citizens, our fellow citizens, as ignorant as ever, sit idly by while their liberties are usurped and subjugated to the all-powerful ideal of "national security".

Just when are the American people going to wake up and actually assert themselves to their masters? It seems the American people are in such a daze; their eyes are so glassed over that they cannot see the ever heavier chains being placed upon them by their so-called "elected leaders" - their "representatives", who represent little more than the special interests that fund them, their campaigns, and their decadent and luxurious houses, boats, and private jets. However, they just might start to awaken from their long slumber when the President pulls the plug on the internet, which a vast majority of the general public seems to be addicted to. It certainly will not be a popular move, if made.

I find it quite disheartening that the news of the move towards executive control of the internet has not been reported on with any vigor in the major media news networks, but I am at the same time, wholly unsurprised. The media is never honest with the people, and it serves the Administration quite well by covering up such ground-breaking and frightening stories, instead preferring to cover events not even fit to be called "news", such as celebrity gossip, which the mentally-disconnected (read: ignorant) public loves to soak up.

In the absence of important programming, I could see why mass media would air such frivolous junk. However, when a police state is being constructed all around us, the media should do it's patriotic duty to the people and report on it truthfully, not cover it up and act as pawns in the Administration's grand chess game. The media cover up of coming internet censorship just exposes them as the traitors and sell-outs that they are and affirms that we, independent journalists, editorialists, and commentators, are true Americans and true journalists and commentators not corporate shills and useful idiots for the Obama White House.

Hopefully the Administration realizes that it will never be able to fully silence us, or the vast internet, for that matter. No matter how they may try to squelch dissent and silence the voices of liberty, they will never be successful. The infectious virus of freedom will never be conquered; the indomitable spirit of liberty shall never, and can never, be triumphed over by the dark forces of tyranny and wanton oppression. However, that does not mean they won't try and conquer us and run roughshod over our liberties. We will just have to wait and see what they do. Will they shut down the internet? Will they censor dissent online? Only time will tell. Mr. President, the ball is in your court now. What are you going to do?
