With little difference between the two major political parties except in terms of degree, regionalism, Balkanization, and secession loom inevitable. by Billy Roper

Obama is now seeking to remake this country along leftist lines, using the economic crisis for his own ends. This marks the end of an era - really the end of the last shred of belief in our history of limited government.
For most of the history of the country, there was an implicit (belief in natural rights as granted by God) and explicit (belief in the limitations on government power as restricted by the Constitution) acknowledgement that the Federal government was only a small part of the political concerns of American citizens. The Federal government was limited to a very specific role in American politics.
That idea, the idea of limited Federal government, has been destroyed. The first big blow came with the Civil War. The southern states had every right to secede from the union; nothing in the Constitution said they could not and much of the legislative history said they certainly could. In fact, the New England states had talked about seceding from the union, because of slavery, very shortly before the war. New York state entered the union only on the specific promise that it had the right to secede. Abraham Lincoln was nothing but a monster.,a deformed creature that hand selected the most bloodthirsty general, U. S. Grant, that he could find to wage a war that cost hundreds of thousands of American lives for absolutely no reason. Every problem surrounding the Civil War could probably been solved by a simple conference by all concerned.
The second great blow came with the administration of FDR. Coincidentally, or perhaps not so coincidentally, another deformed creature created vast, despotic government programs that were designed to assert control over the private lives of citizens. This led the way to our current government that inflicts multi-culturalism, multi-nationalism and political correctness on its citizens. This was the beginning of our modern government.
Yet despite all the machinations of FDR, there remained many Americans who wanted to turn back the clock and re-impose limitations on the Federal government. They pointed out how the Constitution gave the Federal government extremely limited power over citizens. But this number grew less year by year.
In the year 2008, one remained, Ron Paul. His campaign failed, despite great effort on the part of his backers. He was included in the Republican debates, and was able to state his views on the Constitution. He rarely polled more than three or four percent of the electorate. The American people heard what he said and rejected it.
That's it. Its over. Let it be stated for the record -there are no limits on the power of the Federal government over our lives. It is able to do anything, absolutely anything. The Bush Administration committed jaw-dropping attacks on our freedom. Secret prisons, secret court proceedings, warrantless wiretaps and so much more. Now, many Americans may not care about the "anti-terrorist" agenda because it is currently directed at Muslims. But all of these devices can easily be used against anyone who is out of favor with the establishment.
The precedent has been set. The government can do whatever it desires. There are no limits and no restraints.
And now from the left comes Barack Obama . He is taking advantage of this crisis to enact a far left agenda. But he has rolled back fairly few of Bush's power grabs. The only significant issue he has with Bush legislation is on cultural issues. For example, he can't wait to have gay soldiers.
So the Democrats and Republicans are the same. Both move towards bigger government and fewer freedoms, and we are crushed between them.
With the Federal government abdicating one of the few duties which are legitimately theirs, states such as Arizona and cities such as Costa Mesa are stepping up to the plate..while others are declaring themselves refuge cities already and boycotting their neighbors, as a sign that they are de facto Mexican occupied territory. Reminds me of Yugoslavia in 1985. So, let's think back, how did that one turn out? Oh, yeah. The term is "Balkanization".
