Either way, U.S. news media help the U.S. government pillage you. by Dan Alba

Mainstream U.S. news media are highly skilled at manipulating U.S. public opinion in favor of U.S. government policy. If you don't read each news report critically and do your own fact checking, you might believe all that they tell you, and that can lead to the unknowing acceptance of your own pillaging and enslavement.
The following example of the Associated Press' "expertise" may seem relatively negligible, but it is quite pernicious when you realize that (1) such accounts, and worse, are disseminated via thousands of media outlets the world over and eventually stated as fact in history textbooks, and that (2) your tax dollars are subsidizing illicit U.S. policies that are always supported by such shoddy reporting.
In a 20-paragraph AP report on an investigation into the assassination of a Hamas operative, the 17th paragraph reads:
Earlier this month, Hamas said it launched a [sic] floating explosives into the Mediterranean Sea to drift toward Israeli beaches to avenge al-Mabhouh's death.
A joint statement from [the Popular Resistance Committees] and two other small factions — Islamic Jihad and the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades — said they sent eight bombs and detonated them by remote control. Hamas did not sign the statement.
Who did sign the statement claiming responsibility? The al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades: a militant wing of Hamas' rival, Fatah, which is subsidized by American taxpayers.
AP didn't mention that.
In fact, "mainstream" news media almost never mention anything that could legally or morally undercut U.S. foreign policy. A few examples:
The well documented accounts that Hamas did not do a "hostile takeover" of Gaza in June 2007, but rather aggressively put down a coup attempt by Fatah that was planned and armed by U.S. and Israeli officials and financed by U.S. taxpayers. (Hamas are the lawful, democratically elected majority of Palestinian Parliament — another huge fact AP omits.)
Imagine a truly independent press that exposed such vital facts, better equipping you to make informed economic and political decisions.
