State-Controlled Media versus Debra Medina et al.

Glenn Beck & Co., dirty-working for the State...
by Dan Alba
(libertarian)
Saturday, February 13, 2010

By now, you've probably heard about Glenn Beck's "interview" of Texas gubernatorial candidate Debra Medina.

To shrewd observers, Beck's character assassination was petty and hypocritical. But such is typical of Beck's work. Recall another episode of informational aggression committed by him and his fellow ideologues, against Dr. Ron Paul during the 2008 presidential race.

Beck calls himself a libertarian, but has acted more like a statist-collectivist intent on enforcing group-think. His goal, it seems, is to ensure that liberty driven grassroots movements are co-opted by folks like himself, Sarah Palin, and Newt Gingrich, and that the principled remnants of said groups are perpetually seen as dangerously- or criminally-fringe.

Still, Beck is just a tiny part of the State-Controlled Media (SCM).

Tiny, that is, compared to the SCM cartel known as the Associated Press.

The only time the AP even mentions libertarians, Tenth Amendment activists, or non-corrupt politicians is when the AP can effectively marginalize them.

Up to the time of the Beck Inquisition, Ms. Medina had gained around 20 polling points in a very short time while, in the same period, her opponents each had dropped around seven points; yet, the only time the AP  has covered her campaign, to date, is in a report that amplifies the Beck smear.

In that February 11 report — "Texas gov. candidate questions any US role in 9/11" — even the title is an untruth. Of course it's not the last one.

Gov. Rick Perry and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison dismissed the comments made by Debra Medina on the Glenn Beck Show that there were "some very good arguments" that the U.S. was involved in bringing down the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.*

Medina didn't say that there were "very good arguments" that "the U.S. was involved"; yet, with the use of selective quoting, the AP tells you she did.

Listen to the Beck interview. Nowhere does Medina suggest a U.S. role in the attack.

You will, however, find the following Medina responses which, tellingly, did not make their way into the AP report.

Well, you know, that's a federal issue. We're very focused on issues in Texas, on Texas state government. I'm certainly not into mind control or thought policing people. . . .

We've got a very diverse team in this state and that's because Texans are standing shoulder to shoulder to support and defend the Constitution. I frankly don't have time, you know, to go through and do psychological testing on people and know every thought or detail that they have.

Conspiracy talk should be welcomed anyway, especially by someone like Beck, whose alleged political leanings are founded on the distrust of government.

Instead, "9/11 truthers" are the equivalent of child-molesters,  according to the same folks who would have you believe that everything Abraham Lincoln did was honest, moral, and legal; that Woodrow Wilson did everything he could to avoid U.S. entry into the first World War; that Franklin Roosevelt did all he could to avoid the Pearl Harbor attack; that Harry Truman had to kill tens of thousands of non-combatant Japanese civilians to bring about an end to the second World War; that the Lyndon Johnson  administration told the truth about the Gulf of Tonkin incident; and that the George Bush administration didn't lie to justify the invasion of Iraq.

So, wo are the conspiracy nuts again?

* Emphasis mine.

Reading through the articles and blogs about this incident a few things became apparent. First our media is out of control. The top two results for Debra Medina included OVER 800 articles from the washington post and the Dallas morning news smearing Medina with false alligations. The Dallas morning news even took it up a notch pubicly endorsing KBH.  This kind of overt social influence is repugnat. It is the kind of thing one would expect to see in the media of North Korea or China but not here in the USA.

Second the attempted political character assasinaton of Glenn Beck has backfired. He really did underestimate the intelligence of his former audience. All kinds of folks from both sides of the political spectrum listened to Glenn Beck and they listened as he went one step to far saying he was ready to french kiss Rick Perry. His political endorsment could not of been made more clearly.  Yet, his political hit piece had the oppisite effect of its intention and Medinas popularity has increased as a result.

More and more I have read how folks had never heard of Medina before the Glenn Beck show and after looking up Medina afterwards I have read how they will be voting for her. Her base support has not waviered either. Thier conviction in her seems to of redoubled their support in the candidate they have choosen to support.

Medina for Texas!

Dan, these quotes from the interview;

Is enough for me.  She is a truther, or at least wants their votes.  Some issues become litmus test, this seems to be one.  She dodged the question, many dodge many questions, but this one is easy, you believe the truthers or you do not.  If the truthers would focus on other issues important to them and me, I can agree on the candidate.  But not voting for someone who is going to arrest the previous administration.  As for our media being like China or N. Korea, out right lie.  Our papers since the founding have not just reported news, but stated opinions, including the endorsements of candidates.

Kona:

"She is a truther, or at least wants their votes.  Some issues become litmus test, this seems to be one.  She dodged the question, many dodge many questions, but this one is easy, you believe the truthers or you do not."

Really?  REALLY? Nothing in your quotation from Dan even suggests she's a truther.  I have known Debra for a few years now - I met her in the 2008 primary season and supported her  and Paul Perry in their bid to unseat state GOP chair Tina Benkeiser.  The 911 Truth movement has NEVER come up at any meeting or gathering I have been at with her - whether she was an attendee or a speaker.  She is NOT a truther.

There is ONLY ONE litmus test for ANY candidate - "Do they understand the CONSTITUTION and will they ABIDE by it, and be CONSTRAINED by the limits of power it sets on the various offices/branches of government?"  Period.

But - that is beside the point.  Just as Ron Paul would not return the campaign contributions he received from white supremacist groups, Debra Medina SHOULD NOT and WILL NOT practice politically correct thought enforcement.  It is ALWAYS healthy to question the state.  Additionally, she is the underdog candidate with a shoestring budget that has to drive across the state continuously to campaign - she frankly DOES NOT have the luxury of time to screen her supporters - paid or volunteer - for politically correct thoughts even if she felt it was appropriate (which she does not).

Now, please excuse me while I refill my coffee cup and complete my preparations for today's block walking activities, spreading Debra Medina message and building up her support!

For those who are tying to destroy Debra Medina, you don’t get it!

This is why she appeals to those who support her, she doesn’t dodge questions.

She gave that Fraud Liar Glenn Beck a answer to a question and he tried to use it for "Ambush". It didn’t work!! It only threw gas on a Patriot Fire, and made me sned another donation!!     See you March 2nd!!

"As for our media being like China or N. Korea, out right lie."

I didn't said they were. State-controlled is not the same as state-owned. But actually, our media are worse. Who'd believe a N. Korean outlet that claimed to be "independent" and "unbiased"? Are major U.S. news-media controlled to any extent by the FCC, IRS, and the standing-army empire? Of course they are. State control is not only for Voice of America, NPR, and the like.

Nice job, Dan! I agree with you completely. Last year, I saw Beck get punked on-air by Barbara Walters and Whoopie Goldberg when he guested on The View. (And he had it coming) Now, he has passed the punking along, this time to Debra Medina and the people of the State of Texas. Beck's claim to being a libertarian, while always doubtful, now seems utterly laughable in light of his own words and actions.

Beck bushwhacked Debra Medina, demonstrating what a lowlife snake he is. I would say that I will never watch his show again,  but in truth I quit watching him years ago.
