Texas conservative base shifting towards Medina Governor Rick Perry did not receive the much needed endorsement of the Texas Republican Assembly today showing a shift toward Debra Medina among conservatives.by A Texan Does Politics

One large endorsement was released today and another was deadlocked for the candidates not having votes to be deemed the winner for the Texas republican gubernatorial primary election to be held March 2. The primary election is just weeks away with polls showing voters shifting from Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison to conservative activist Debra Medina according to a recent Rasmussen poll released days after the last Republican gubernatorial debate.
Since November Governor Rick Perry has dropped 2 percentage points, Kay Bailey Hutchison has dropped 6 percentage points and Debra Medina has gained 12 points. The latest poll from Rasmussen shows Perry at 44%, Hutchison at 29%, Medina at 16% with 11% undecided. The poll has a margin of error of +-4 points.
Independent Texans released today an endorsement of Debra Medina for Texas Governor. Independent Texans is a group of independent voters that support candidates they believe would bring needed reform to Texas government. Independent voters make up 41% of the electorate or around 5 million Texas voters according to the website.
The Texas Republican Assembly, an organization made up of the conservative wing of the Texas Republican Party did not endorse any governor candidates today. Via Red County twitter feed:

The conservative arm of the Party did not even bring Senator Hutchison's name up for nomination and Governor Perry did not get the endorsement of the conservative group showing that support among conservatives is moving from Perry to Medina.
Another endorsement came this week for Medina from conservative author and columnist Tom Woods.

The conservatives in Texas are left without a choice. In end, Perry may get my vote by default, though I am willing to look at the Democrat. Medina's libertarianism is NOT conservative. Her call for legalizing drugs removes her from any serious conservative consideration.
For the first time in our lives, we have the chance to throw the bums out of office (Perry) and not replace him with any bum (Hutchinson). We can do something really important for ourselves and our future if we get out there and vote for the only honest person in the race.
Conservatives do have only one choice and that is Debra Medina!
If you are a conservative, you don't even consider the democrat. Shame on you for suggesting that.
If you believe in the right to life, you can not vote for Hutchinson. She told you on the debate that she would not overturn Roe v. Wade.
If you believe in personal liberty, you can not vote for Perry who wants to decide what medication to give your daughters and wants to take fellow citizen's property without permission.
Mark--I too do not want people doing drugs however if you read through what Medina has said in it's entirety you will find she believes that the issue on drugs is a states issue and not a federal issue. She believes the federal government has done a horrable job in keeping drugs off the streets and has just created more layers of federal police forces. She wants the state to reject through nullification federal drug laws and allow the Texas State Legislature to tackle the issue. She would enforce the laws on the books as written even if she disagreed with them.
The question you have to ask is what influence does she have on the legalization of drugs? Really none. The real power is in the legislature since they are the ones who make the laws. If they passed a law that was popular with the people but she disagreed with she might veto it, but if they overturned it I have no doubt in my mind she would enforce it just like she would uphold the state constitution.
I have worked with my church jail ministry for years and I have seen how drugs destroy peoples lives. What I noticed though is that the laws were not stopping people from doing drugs. I spoke with my local county officials about this and they said the laws don't work and we are just filling our jails up causing a further need to build more jails and take money from the taxpayers. The solution is a Christian solution. The bible clearly shows that the "law" will not change anybody's hearts...it is there to condemn them. Think prohibition. It sounded good to make alcohol illegal but all it did was make people criminals. Prohibition was overturned during an economic crisis so they could collect taxes on it, which is probably what will happen with drugs...well at least probably pot.
However by Christians seriously tackling the drug issue without the aid of government, through loving those who do drugs, praying for them, witnessing to them with their testimony and lives... hearts will be changed. I have seen it happen personally.
You should read "The Law" by Bastiat. The governments job is to "protect life, liberty and property" nothing more and nothing less. That is why we have a standing army for the collective defense of our lives. An issue such as drugs is not part of the governments responsibility and is a soft form of socialism since it is depriving individuals of the liberty to choose what they see best for their own lives. This is how our nation as a Christian nation was founded.
Don't get me wrong I don't think people should do drugs but I know that it is an emotional issue for many people thats why it is still on the books...so politicians keep getting elected..it sounds good to be "hard on drugs" but our drug laws are not effective per dollar spent. If the same money was spent by the Christian community to reach those on drugs...it would be more effective. If nothing else take it out of the hands of the federal government since they can't do anything right and put it in the hands of the state government.
Medina is not for legalizing drugs. She thinks the current war on drugs is a failure and that any program should be state run and dictated by the will of Texans. She isn't nearly as liberterian as people acuse her, she is 100% pro-life.

Glenn Beck called Perry a progressive conservative of the same thread as John McCain.
Medina surged to 24% within the margin of error of beating Hutchison and tooks 4 points of support from Perry in the lastest poll by PPP.
On hearing Glenn Beck interview her yesterday, she was very well spoken and smooth right up to: Are you a Truther? Do you have truthers advising you? Then she sounded like a real politician. I think she has some "splanin" to do.
