Independent Jake Towne Skyrockets to a "Stunningly High" 8% in the Polls
The marathon to spread the message of liberty and reclaim the Fighting 15th from the Establishment rages on. The Republocrats fiddle while our country burns. by Jake Towne, the Champion of the Constitution

"I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do." - Harper Lee from "To Kill a Mockingbird"
Today the incumbent released some startling numbers from a recent poll paid for by his campaign. The results: Towne 8%, Republocrat A 53%, Republocrat B 27%. Scott Kraus of the Morning Call reported my total as "stunningly high" and he is correct - it is a tribute to both the hard work of the campaign's volunteers in spreading the message so far, and the growing discontent of the district with the Washington, DC establishment. This is impressive since it is still quite early in the election season, and I have not been able to spread the message to a high amount of residents just yet - we obviously have 92% left to cover - and I have not yet even begun to fight.
The incumbent career politician released this poll mainly to make the other career politician look bad in comparison, but no doubt he should have deleted my totals. The 15th District is widely looked upon by both the Democrat and Republican national parties as a top 5 battleground race, and millions of dollars will be spent. Opposing the Republocrats in the general election is myself, the campaign's valiant volunteers, and a powerful message to serve the people and solve the problems rather than mudslinging and refusal of my campaign's request to debate. The Republocrats are fiddling while Rome burns.
For example, the incumbent is spending precious time pushing a federal crackdown on tanning salons. Regardless of the risks in indoor tanning this decision belongs to the individual, local and state levels and is ultimately just another usurpation of the Constitution. The tanning industry's lobby even points out that some degree of UV ray in sunlight may in fact help prevent disease via Vitamin D. Plus, to be consistent, the federal government might as well set limits for how many hours one can tan on a beach in the summertime and what clothes can be worn outside. I warn that acts like these have unintended consequences on the marketplace, as I noted with the 1.6 gallon flush post earlier this month - besides, I am already informed by a campaign volunteer that the spray-on tan stuff works just fine. OK, we are into the weeds a little, but that is the WHOLE POINT!
What the incumbent should be doing INSTEAD is reading over my Sound Money and Jobs and Federal Reserve Planks, and then follow my suggestion to co-sponsor HR 4248 as the dollar is in dire trouble and the people should be free to protect themselves from the reckless spending and money-printing of their own government. The incumbent's knowledge on this topic is pretty sparse, as I personally discovered last year when I asked why he was sponsoring wasteful spending bills, approving $800 banker bailouts, and sending $50+ billion in arms dealing and foreign aid overseas while paradoxically claiming to be saving the taxpayer money. (The incumbent failed the last National Taxpayer Union's survey with a 48%.)
While the poll was completed by a Republican-affiliated polling company on just 300 residents and apparently introduced myself to voters as "the Libertarian Party candidate" - I am a true independent with no party, and have never been registered with the Libertarian Party, the fact that 25 people would decide to vote for me so early is a strong sign of potential for success in the fall election. While I suspect that the incumbent's polling numbers might magically decline to understate my threat in later polls, the fact remains - make no mistake - that my campaign is the true threat to end the tyranny. I realize that most people do not have the time to go door-to-door these days, but what I find is strong identification with the platform of prosperity and peace, the novel-yet-simple Open Office concept of accountable and transparent government, and the fact I am running with no party and not enriching myself on the public's dime and donating most of my salary to local non-profit hospitals.
If residents want MORE spending, MORE taxes, MORE war, MORE debt, FEWER jobs,LESSprosperity, and LESS liberty, than I suggest they go vote for Republocrat A or Republocrat B. For my supporters, take heart. America is our country and we can take it back. As Samuel Adams said during the Revolution:
"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; and may posterity forget that ye were once our countrymen."
That Freedom Shall Not Perish.

Hi Jake,
Wow, 8%...nice ego booster, huh? Personally I wouldn't know if that is good or bad. Thanks for pointing out that it is STUNNING.
I don't put any stock in the value of polling but putting polling information into context is sometimes helpful. For instance, the quetions I'd ask to put your 8% into context are these:
1. What percentage of likely primary voters participated in the poll?
2. What was the total number of poll participants?
Even if you had 100% in the poll at this stage it wouldn't carry any significant information without at least those two basic questions being answered to put it into context.
Just remember that win, lose or draw, this is all about Jake and not about repeatable, lasting defense of liberty. You are the pied piper leading folks away from constructive participation for your personal glory in my eyes. Your efforts to drain productive energy from constructive behavior undermines the once-in-a-lifetime momentum created by the example set by Ron Paul; an example that you are eroding and mocking every day so you can "ring your own bell" with a meaningless poll results.
As always, have fun at your hobby. If you weren't so good at it I wouldn't bother to point out the damage you do the defense of my liberty.

Dear Jahfre -
In the district no independent or third party has ever polled over a couple percentage points. The local reporter called it stunning, not I.
On your questions, I addressed them in the above, but the only poll that matters is the one on election day.
1. What percentage of likely primary voters participated in the poll?
The Republican polling company said 100% of the voters were likely, though the incumbent did not share their internal results
2. What was the total number of poll participants?
300, like I stated above - it's a small fraction. Like most US congressional districts there are about 450,000 registered voters in my district
Thanks for your thoughtful comments on the ego, etc.
The campaign's really is about the message and not myself, and since there was no like-minded individual running in my area, I've chosen the best route where I have the best chance of winning the general election - we have been over this before - believe me, I wish you the best of luck in your GOP primary if you happen to be running for local committeman or elected position.
Many of my supporters are engaged with the parties and trying to become Dem or GOP committeemen/women - I support them, and even acknowledge I might be doing the same if I was not a candidate.
In the meantime, the poll results were good enough to get my campaign's ideas to cut military spending on the front page of the local newspaper this morning [link edited for length]
Like you said, I am getting pretty good at my hobby. If you have some constructive feedback on how to avoid being a pied piper (besides dropping my candidacy I mean) feel free to let me know.
We need more of Jake Towne and we need more Jake Townes to run for office.
Frankly, Ron Paul and others have had their opportunities, and we are none the better for it. I have been loyal follower of Paul, and it is not likely anything to do with Paul, other than the right message to the wrong crowds at the wrong time.
Keep up the great work Jake. No one made a difference staying at home and hoping someone else would do the heavy lifting for them.
Success does not ring your doorbell to see if you are home. You must seek it.
Hey, Jake, I live in Canada so I can't donate to U.S. campaigns; but I'd love to put your widget up on my blog. Not a lot of traffic there, but who knows, eh? Where can I get a copy?
