Why Debra Medina's Candidacy For Texas Governor Should Be Nationalized

Debra Medina against all odds is quickly becoming a viable candidate the implications are enormous.

Scott Brown's shocking victory is a mixed blessing for the cause of freedom. On one hand it has put a major roadblock in the path towards Obama Care. On the other hand Scott Brown is a big government Republican. So far there are no signs that true reform is taking place in the GOP. The people in control of the party during the worst two consecutive election cycle defeats in GOP history are still in control of the leadership nationally. This is why a Debra Medina victory is a tremendous opportunity to return to the original constitutionally limited government given us by the founders. The obvious question is why is it that important for Medina to win? The answer is because Texas is that important. Texas is the flagship state of the Republican Party. The Texas GOP is the biggest in the Nation. It's also, heavily controlled by the Bush/McCain wing. The two establishment candidates for governor represent two of the worst examples of compromised career politicians. Both Perry & Hutchson's record are typical of out of touch elitist. Perry like Obama, repeatedly tried to cram the Trans Texas Corridor & tolling existing roads down the throats of Texans who clearly in poll after poll were against it by huge margins. The same Obama like behavior was exhibited by Senator Hutchinson in voting for TARP even though her phone lines were melted down with overwhelming opposition to TARP. Only a fool would expect either Perry or Hutchinson to be any different then they have been their entire political careers. This country will not survive with two socialist political parties. Like it or not  most Republicans are really FDR Democrats. Virtually all of the New Deal is vigorously supported by and even expanded by Republicans. The GOP today is not the same GOP that fought hard to stop the government expansion during the FDR administration. Unfortunately even back then the infiltration of Progressives into the GOP had begun to transform the party. It's that deep rooted progressive influence that has effectively neutered the Republican Party from being a true small government party. It's for those reasons among others that underscore the huge advancement towards freedom a Medina victory would usher in. Here are some of the major gains that would occur:

1. The era of the career politician would be in serious jeopardy. The founders envisioned citizen rule not career politicians. Medina's victory coupled with the very likely Rand Paul victory in the Senate race in Kentucky would be huge political statements in support of non-career politicians.

2. Medina's strong 10th amendment platform is exactly the type of philosophy needed to help restore State sovereignty.Texas would become the leader in that cause.

3. Medina is a true tax reformer. Her stand on eliminating property tax will serve as a blueprint for the rest of the country to end confiscatory taxing schemes.

4. Medina's strong 2nd amendment position will help the cause nationally. Recent news reports of Obama's justice department shutting down Gun Shows in Texas underscores the hypocrisy of Rick Perry who has remained silent about the Federal intrusion.

The benefits of a Medina victory would go beyond those issues I've mentioned. The psychological benefits of encouraging frustrated small government conservatives would have a ripple effect across the country. This is why I advocate the nationalization of Debra Medina's candidacy. Scott Brown received massive amounts of money from out of state. The two establishment candidates in Texas have a combined total of about 24 million dollars in their war chest. Medina depends on small contributions from grassroots support and can't compete with big corporate donors. She can if grassroots efforts are expanded nationally. Debra Medina has made amazing gains with limited funding and no statewide recognition prior to the first debate. The second debate Jan 29th will very likely give her another big bump in the polls and put her in a legitimate three way race. She is no longer an impossible long shot. Most of the press around Texas has praised her debate performance and acknowledged her elevated status. This is a window of opportunity that rarely presents itself and we as patriots must spread the word about Debra Medina. I know there are important races all across the country that need support and money is tight. The good news is if we can successfully nationalize this campaign small contributions of $5 or $10 coming from across the country would make a huge difference.

Medina supports legalizing drugs!  Medina has no record on the issues she is promoting so we can't know if she's all talk or for real.  One thing I do know, ...we don't need to add another ridiculous issue, the legalization of drugs, to the mess we already have.  And one other thing, if she is for legalizing drugs...than what else?

Listen to Medina's answer about the issue on drugs from the debate. She's not FOR legalizing drugs, she's for the decision to be in the hands of the people. I'm by NO means in support of legalizing drugs at all. However, I think that the people should have the choice, not big government. If they can ban drugs, they can ban guns. Think about it.

Ronald Reagan never held a political office before he was elected governor of California. Need I go on? I just hope that Texans don't get blinded by "more time in office = better candidate"

God Bless you guys and keep it going.

Mr. Vogl,

I read your post to my husband as he was heading out to fix a corner post on our ranch. His suggestion is for you to get in front of Debra yourself and listen to what she has to say and not be swayed by hear-say and sound bites. She is for the rule of law.

What we have had in our Legislature and Governor's office has certainly not been the rule of law. Have you read the books she encourages her audience to read? When was the last time you read the Texas Constitution ? It is an interesting document and if that was used as the criteria for elected servants, we'd have cleaned house a long time ago.

Texas needs someone who is not an insider who will not be bought and can stand in front the people of Texas as their voice of reason.

I look forward to seeing you at the next public event for Debra Medina so you can see your fears are based on error- not fact. the people of Texas deserve to have a voice that finally represents their view and not Big Politics.

The more Medina's popularity grows the more her statements will be placed under a microscope and she will be held to a higher standard than the present Governor or Senator.

Staying with the status quo will not be good for Texas. The Texas Constitution set up the requirements for a Governor and Mrs. Medina more than qualifies for the job.

Curious about Mark and Bobby talking about being against "legalizing drugs" and I wonder if you guys know anything about what you are talking about?  Criminalizing drugs creates powerful drug gangs (remember Al Capone?) and begets lots of violence without stopping drug use or trafficking. It is a failed directive.

On the other hand, take a look at Portugal. They decriminalized drugs about 5 years ago and offer treatment instead of prison. It has been a resounding success. Low crime, fewer drug users, no bursting prisons. Kids are not getting involved with drugs because they have lost their "rebellious allure" and have become something that only junkies use.

When you speak in favor of the criminality of drugs, you are showing that you don't really have the facts but instead subscribe to the lies told by the career politicians. Clearly, you are part of the problem in the US. Do a bit of research and speak with facts, please. Be a part of the solution.

Too many folks are lead by their leaders (Politicians/Media) and not by their best interest. People love to believe their belief systems right or wrong. To learn or to see the alternative to their thoughts and beliefs takes responsibility and effort. I believe the entire country is beginning to question and drop these long held belief systems. This is why we have great people like Debra Medina recieving the attention they truelly deserve. If we don't become educated to the cold hard facts of our controlling and over reaching leaders. We will find ourselves living a much lower quality of life. Big Government=Serfdom/Slavery. BELIEVE IT!!!!

Texas has a unique opportunity to elect what our founders intended: a citizen legislator.  Career politicians are who got us in this mess. If I lived in Texas I would be working hard to help Medina win the R nomination.  I have donated and will continue.

I want to give a shout out to Phil W. for living up to the spirit of Phil Pepin's article.  On November 5th I also contributed not only to the Medina campaign, but to liberty candidates across the nation.  What we need are people all over the country reaching out to Medina with dollars, poll support, blog support, etc. even though they can't vote in the election.  So thanks again Phil W. for contributing.

I am for most Libertarian principles.  However, a hushed-up fact is that two congressmen under the wing of Ron Paul, created an addendum to the Ominbus bill of 2000, which GW Bush signed.  It allowed for the creation of derivatives...the combining of bad mortgages and good into bundles to create a market.  Until 2000, this was against the law.  This attempt to keep government hands off a free market led to the disasterous downfall of the US economy.  Some things NEED to be regulated...including drugs.

Debra Medina is using Arthur Laffer's neocon scam to eliminate property taxes and replace them with sales taxes on property sales so the bankers can profit by charging interest on the sales taxes. Very bad idea.

Also, eliminating all property taxes would allow non-residents, corporations, and slum lords to come in, buy up texas, and turn real Texans into rent slaves.

Better solution, eliminate property taxes for all primary residences, eliminate the business taxes, and keep the sales taxes low.

Mark Vogl has again managed to swing a bigpart of the discussion away from Debra Medina and toward a relatie on-issue, the legalization of drugs. It seems to be his hobby. I suggest that he be ignored in future.

Debra Medina is Texas' (and the nation's) future. Rick and Kay are Texas' (and DC's) past. Look to the future! Support and Elect Debra Medina.

Haven't you heard, the CIA are the biggest drug runners on the planet. The banks on Wall Street launder $100's of BILLIONS in drug proceeds. Yep lets keep it illegal, keep the prices high and the jails full of people caught with a pot joint. We'll just keep paying into the cottage industry that the prison complex has become. WE'RE SICK AND TIRED OF PAYING AND THERE'S NOTHING LEFT TO PAY. If your kid wants to get stoned out of his mind, take responsibility and make sure that he or she does not. The taxpayers are sick of footing the bill. The laws are insane. Legalize drugs and regulate like you would alcohol and tobacco, through your state and the drug problem ends..period...If you can't keep your kids off drugs they might just die that way..RESPONSIBILITY STARTS AT HOME.

I will donate to her campaign and encourage others to also. Debra must broaden her message a little. I think she emphasizes repealing the property tax too much. It is a good issue , but shouldn't be the whole agenda of her candidacy. I think she also needs to focus on the failures of her opponents to address the concerns of Texans, Perry's support for TTC is a great example of how he has ignored the wishes of the electorate and it was unforgiveable. Shout this from the rooftops.

For Dawn, Portugal experiment not over.  Give it another 25 years.  Here in the US kids take up fads and some stick for awhile, like pants on the ground.  Legal drugs will be a huge fad, and many addicts will result.  The next batch of kids will see it and use will go down.  But in another 25 years is will be popular again.  These things go in cycles; gambling, drinking, drugs, free sex, VD rates, abortion debate, religious following.

To Keith:  Parents are trying to keep kids off drugs, they voted in a legislature to ban it, to make it rare, to make it risky to obtain, etc.  only kids scream for something denied them by parents, and some never grow up.

Just 'googled upon this article. I'm surprised David Nolan allowed this neo-libertarian article on his web site. Handing over the Libertarian Party fully over to the neocons as a propaganda arm for their latest scams is not what the Libertarian Party needs. It would surely die and give birth to the Georgist Party after the word "Libertarian" is fully redefined as the neocon test marketing party of neo-feudalism and anarcho-capitalism.
