The Siren Song of Marxism

Many people have been tricked by the slick Marxist propagandists, who masquerade as liberals, when they, in fact, despise our liberty and everything America stands for.

Health care is not a right. Free housing is not a right. Food stamps and a steady supply of sustenance is not a right. And yet, all these things, despite not being mentioned in the Constitution, are hailed by leftists as inalienable rights that the government must guarantee. According to these master manipulators of the Constitution, it is the government's job, no duty, to provide free education, housing, clothing, food, etc. for the masses. This is the first step towards tyranny; the first step towards the dissolution of our liberties in the name of some vague "greater good" that superceedes our civil rights to live our lives the way we see fit.

The debate between liberty and the greater good has been raging since the dawn of time. As free individuals, Americans are likely to choose liberty over some vague greater good. However, we, as guardians of liberty, must remain eternally vigilant. Free people have fallen to tyranny, willingly, in the past. It cannot be stated enough that Hitler was democratically elected campaigning (at least in the very beginning) on a platform of peace and prosperity; change (sound familiar?). We must remember that in the end, liberty always is better than the greater good, for regimes which have rescinded liberties in the name of the greater good have always, sooner or later, descended into totalitarian savagery and slavery. We must ensure that America does not meet the same fate.

Liberals claim the moral high ground in debates like this, often hurling condescending and arrogant remarks at their detractors. "We're just humanitarians, that's all," they proclaim with an undeniable air of condescencion and a nauseating level of smugness. "Yes," their liberal cohorts pipe in, "we care about the people, not the evil corporations like you conservatives do." Ah, the siren song of Marxism. All capitalists are evil and would like nothing better than to oppress the working class, they say. We are your only salvation; we are the champions of the poor and the working man, they proclaim, yet all the while they rob the so-called rich (read: middle class) of their rightful riches and keep the working class destitute, enslaving them to the State and oppressing them by keeping them under the twin Stalinist jackboots of unadulterated thuggery and sheer terror.

Unfortunately, many well-meaning individuals become entranced by the Marxist propaganda of free this and free that for everyone. They fall victim to the intoxicating themes of free housing, free food, and free medical care, despite the fact that they will never see such things, as they only exist in a utopia not found anywhere on Earth. Once the people realize the cruel trick that has been played on them by the cold and calculating enemies of liberty, they are powerless to liberate themselves from the tyranny of collectivism. Once the people are disarmed and muzzled by the State, the Marxist puppetmasters have total and absolute power.

Before I continue, I feel that it is important to dispel a widely held belief that is contrary to reality, rationality, and logic. There is no such thing as free health care, regardless of whatever the slick Marxist propagandists say when they are on their soapboxes. Marxist regimes impose draconian tax rates, approaching 100%, and then they redistribute the wealth in a way they see equitable. Of course, what meager allowance the State allows you to have is barely enough to live on, never mind live comfortably on. According to the Marxist social planners, as long as you aren't dying, you have more than enough.

So, yes, if you want to call nationalized health care "free", then go ahead and do it. Just understand that you have ceased to be the master of your own destiny. Your destiny is now tied to that of the State, and if the State fails, so do you. You may be free to receive low quality health care from an unknown doctor who couldn't care less about you and your needs (he sees hundreds of patients a day, and knows none of them. You're just another guy in the never-ending line at the free clinic. Do you really think he cares about you?) However, you are no longer free to spend your money the way you see fit. You are no longer free to choose your place of employment. You are no longer free to collectively bargain with your employer (you think a Marxist government would allow labor unions to challenge their authority? Think again. They don't care about the worker anymore than anyone else does.) You fell for the Siren's song. Now you are enslaved, and the worst part is, you are the only one to blame.

The American people need to think long and hard about whether nationalized health care is really worth it. Is it worth losing your liberties? I think not, but it does not really matter what I think. It is incumbent on all of you, as fellow citizens of the United States, to inform yourselves and make the eternal choice for America: liberty, or tyranny. Are we going to be free people, the masters of our destiny, or are we going down the road to tyranny, the road of slavery and misery; the road to serfdom? The American people must decide for themselves. Our only hope is that we make the right choice, for if we don't, the results will be unthinkable. I don't want to live in the Soviet Union; I doubt you do either.

To equate state liberalism and marxism is the height of absurdity.

To believe that the antagonist to state liberalism is capitalism "as it exists" is almost more absurd.

The modern state liberal is no more interested in protecting the interests of the working class than the modern capitalist is in having a real free economy.

The current debate on health care is only about what vested interests will be subsidized and how much. It has nothing to do with either marxism or capitalism.
