Ever since Texas joined the Union in 1845, there have been movements to secede and re-form the Republic of Texas. In 1861 Texas population voted four-to-one to leave the Union, and in 1861 Texas seceded to join the Confederate States of America. Eventually, the Union beat the Confederacy in 1865. Texas re-joined the Union in 1870. But today, with Federal Government pushing its limits, the Texan people have begun to reconsider secession.
In April 2009, Texas Governor Rich Perry attended a tea party for Texas independence and said the following: "There's a lot of different scenarios. Texas is a unique place. When we came into the union in 1845, one of the issues was that we would be able to leave if we decided to do that ... My hope is that America, and Washington in particular, will pay attention. We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, who knows what may come of that? But Texas is a very unique place, and a pretty independent lot to boot."Since Governor Perry gave this speech there have been multiple Texas Tea Parties for independence and several Texas Independence rallies.
In response to this recent movement President Obama has replied by saying that he would use force to stop Texas from leaving the Union. President of the Texas Nationalist Movement, Daniel Miller, says: "But he and we both know he cannot justify the use of force, and he doesn't have the military backing to do so. This is more about mental terror and bluff than an actual promise to attack. It's like Osama Bin Laden sending out one of his videotapes, there's a lot of threat but he can't really do anything." The reason that President Obama cannot justify the use of force is because when Texas joined the Union in 1845, it entered with the agreement that if Texas's population were to vote for secession that Texas could secede... no questions asked, and re-form the Republic of Texas.
So we will see if the Federal Government will clean up its act to see that Texas stay a state, or if the Government will continue its bad decisions and drive Texas to its seceding point.

If Texas secedes, it won't be long til the US chokes off most of their resources, slaps a tariff to discourage free, honest trade, and tries to lure away its citizens with some hefty new entitlement.
Or...if Texas secedes, people from other states might start moving there to try to get away from the federal strangulation of freedom, and financial collapse of the burdensom federal bureacracy.
Strange...Obama's Nobel speech, he said nations/states must have an open door. Does his "door" swing both ways ?
This man has an extremely difficult problem with any semblance of truth.
Build a barbed wire fence around it, leave an avenue open to the ocean, and set up a new national capital somewhere else. Then, just ignore DC and pass a law calling it a media no-go zone.
