All clear-thinking Libertarians should already know who to support in New York's 23rd Congressional District election. The choice is clear; Doug Hoffman, the New York Conservative Party candidate. I don't know why any Libertarian would or could support the Democratic candidate, who has been endorsed by the Republican candidate, who has since dropped out. This election is a very important one, because instead of a Republican winning a Congressional seat, we could see a seat won by a right-wing third party candidate.
Hopefully, this trend of right-wing third parties will continue and they will win more elections. Hoffman is projected to win this seat, but we need more people like him. Most on the right know that the Republican Party has lost touch with the grassroots conservatives and libertarians, and it appears as though it has absolute disregard for conservatism and would rather appease "moderates" who normally vote Democrat. I think it is high time that the few conservatives and even fever libertarians left in the Republican Party leave and let the party die the slow and painful death it deserves.
If the Republican Party continues what it is doing, it's death will come quicker than many had anticipated. The inept leadership of Chairman Steele, who claims that the party is still a party of conservatives, has allowed the party to further erode. The nomination of John McCain as the party's candidate for President in 2008 was the breaking point for many conservatives who hadn't yet seen the need to abandon the Republican Party.
Tomorrow is Election Day... hopefully Hoffman will win the seat and take it back for the people of New York.

Massa has zero concept of libertarianism otherwise he would not be wishing right-wing conservatives, with their anti-freedom social agenda, a win. Please be honest. You are a conservative. You are a fraudulent libertarian and really ought to go back to the Republicans where your ilk belong.

From a L/libertarian standpoint, the only particular reason to support Hoffman is that he's a third party candidate and electing him may therefore help bust the duopoly.
Libertarians aren't conservatives. Hoffman's not notably more libertarian on most issues than your average run-of-the-mill Republican, and on at least one issue which he chose to emphasize (same-sex marriage) he's less libertarian that Dede Scozzafava, the dropped-out GOP nominee.
Dan, Doug...it doesn't matter. The facts never mattered in this race.
Dede Scozzafava was elected multiple times as a Republican to the NYS Assembly. Her voting record there was more conservative than the average Assemblyman. She was chosen by 11 local county leaders to run for the congressional seat.
Ah, but Dede favors abortion rights and marriage equality, and so became the target of the Theocrats on the right.
Money from the Washington-based National Organization for Marriage and endorsements from Alaskan and Minnesotan Conservatives suddenly propelled Hoffman, who lives *outside the district* into the limelight.
Never mind that he comes across as naive and unfamiliar with the local issues in every interview he has done.
In an Orwellian twisting of words, the blogs raged that Dede was liberal and imposed by Washington, and Hoffman was Home-Spun. The Conservatives frothed, accepted the lies as truth, and gathered their pitchforks...
Hoffman embraces economic liberty, but you can bet, based on his funding sources, that he is a Social Statist. If I lived in the District, I would continue to cast a vote for Dede as representing the closest candidate to the ideals of liberty: general fiscal conservatism and social tolerance.
Mr. Hoffman does not believe in obeying the Constitution and calling an Article V Convention as he, if elected, is mandated to do. He is therefore a constitutional hypocrite.
He will prove to be just like the rest of Congress and will in the end I feel prove to be a major disappointment. He is not a conserative. He only says he is. A true conservative backs the Constitution--All of it.
Hoffman is a religious right social conservative, how can any Libertarian support him other than his tax stances? Even when it comes to taxes, the religious right isnt conservative they're centrist in their economic views. They have no problem with government spending as long as its in areas that fit their agenda. As Thomas state the only reason would be because he is a fellow Third Party memeber. One of things I love being a New Yorker is that the Religious Right doesnt have any foothold here (in addition the rest of New England) now it looks like they got their foot into the door. The only difference that instead of a liberal statist the district has a conservative statist.
