Why Do Most "Christians" Seem Dumb As Posts?

It's no coincidence that God likens us to sheep.

 SAN DIEGO - January 3rd - A Lament!

It's days like these that make me want to just abandon hope in my fellow parishioners! Looking at the early results from Iowa caucuses, and reading the reports about how "Christians" have voted are almost enough to sway me to the John MacArthur-esque viewpoint that Christians ought to just stay out of politics and keep to their own holy huddle.

The Christians in Iowa seem to have come out in large numbers for Mike Huckabee, leading me in my darker moments to imagine them as having perhaps the intellectual capacity of the fence posts they use to border their abundant farmland. Not that Christians anywhere seem to be much smarter.

As I sit here in front of my back-lit laptop computer screen, peering through an electronic window at what I consider to be one of the more reliable sources of polling information -- http://watchthevote2008.com/ and http://www.libertybroadcastnetwork.org/ --  43% of the so-far tabulated vote is in. Huckabee is enjoying an obscene lead with almost 4700 votes, followed by Romney at nearly 2800, with McCain, Thompson, and Paul at about 1650, 1625, and 1400 respectively.

One slightly satisfying thing is to see Giuliani at 341. I guess at least Pat Robertson doesn't hold much sway in Iowa.

At this moment, Duncan Hunter and Alan Keys are bringing up the rear with 30 and 19 votes respectively.

God sure wasn't kidding around when he described us as "sheep," was He?

Postscript: This article is obviously a very personal emotional reaction to seeing a man whom I consider quite a "pretender" bamboozle his way to the top. Cooler heads than I have thankfully provided me with some much needed perspective on what was actually a very encouraging day! My humble thanks to both Abelardo J. Arias and CT Johnson for their excellent and insightful articles, which everyone should most certainly read.

Interesting aside: exit polling found that women describing themselves as non-evangelical overwhelmingly voted for Romney, and evangelicals voted for Huckabee. There was was no such gender bias in the men's voting, or in the Democratic caucus.
