We Need More like Joe Wilson in the Senate and Congress

On September 9th, Joe Wilson shouts 'you lie!' during President Obama's speech on Obamacare. We need more like him on Capitol Hill

When President Obama claimed that illegal immigrants would not receive health care benefits under his proposed Obamacare plan, South Carolina House Representative Joe Wilson shouted 'You Lie!'.  The fact is We the People need more representatives calling out the lies on Capitol Hill in this day and age: the age of corruption in D.C.

If it is true that 6 million illegal immigrants would gain 31 billion in benefits under H.R. 3200 (Obamacare) legislation, then that is truly unnacceptable to this American.  But Obamacare fails for a more important reason.  Notice that President Obama proclaimed that his plan would 'slow down the growth' in health care costs, NOT lower health care insurance premiums.  The first thing thing a person paying for health insurance cares about is the cost of the insurance premiums.  Covering pre-existing conditions is important, but it's the price of insurance that has skyrocketed over the past decade, and Obamacare won't reverse that trend.

If we had more heroes like Joe Wilson on Capitol Hill, calling out the lies where ever they are found, we could start taking steps to fixing what's broken with health care: government intervention into medicine.

The Obama lie that medicare and medicaid are sacred 'generational' trusts needs to be extinguished, for one.  It's time to give all of us who've paid into Medicare and Medicaid the chance to opt out of government run health care.  But before we get that chance, government has to start removing itself from the field of medicine.  Remove the price controls, make tort reform a reality, stop regulating hospitals, doctors, pharmaceutical companies, medical technologies, and patients.  Permit individuals and employers to purchase health insurance across state lines.

Only a decontrolled medical industry will be able to innovate and lower costs through true market competition.  A government end to monopolies in the health care industry would permit such competition and the markets to establish new price points that grow lower with increasing competition among doctors, hospitals, and insurance companies.

I wrote my thanks to Rep. Joe Wilson (here), for calling out the one lie in Obama's speech.  Now we just need more heroic individuals smashing the multitude of lies still residing and hiding on Capitol Hill.

Mr. Tower:

What it seems you fail to recognize is, that the current state of Health  Care was brought to us by Companies seeking to take health care out of the cottage industry it once was to this new wonderful mulligan stew we currently have.  The private corporations wanted to find a way to make Health Care a megalithic profit center.  That brought us the HMO Act in 1974.

These companies have immunity from antitrust laws, and collaborate with each other to our detriment, and to the detriment of the professional providers.  Unfortunately, it will require government intervention to undo this mess.

Hi Nick,

above are two quotes from your article. you are not sure if illegals are covered, yet you base your article on a guy who accused the president of lying about that in public, with millions watching on TV. this is normally refered to as slander and of course shows not some heroic quality but grave lack of intelligence.

As bad as the pending corporate subsidy health plan is and as bad as the corporate health care monopoly we currently have, illegals are only and as far as any bill states, will only be granted "emergency" room care, in case of medical emergencies, like every human that occupies space in this country. I repeat, they and all humans, already have this option. If you have a link directly from a proposed bill or a quote by one of the bill writers to the contrary, that shows that they are also included in supplemental benefits, we would all like to see that.

Whether or not he got all his facts right, the simple truth is this:

There's roughly 50 million uninsured in this country. This includes illegals, people who are eligible under current Medicare/Medicaid programs, and people who can afford it but are just too lazy to seek it.

Obama and his liberal allies have gone on the record saying they want to ensure them all within the next 10 years. How wouldn't this lead anyone to draw two and two together? That's what it means: illegals would get care, too.

Plus, when you consider his next domestic priority is an amnesty bill, our obligations grow even larger...

To Ben: Although what you write is true, the Companies would notbe able to do this if Bog Government had nothing to offer them. The solution is to keep Government out of health care completely.

To Gene: You got it!

I repeat this question on every forum: Why would anyone trust Government with health care when they can't even deliver a timely letter, regulate financial services, or maintain federal roads?

Nickalis N. Tower,

Rep. Joe Wilson is not a hero; he is a blowhard and an idiot who himself lied when he called Obama a liar, since H.R. 3200 DOES have a provision to deny illegal immigrants public health care benefits. Are you sure you are a libertarian and not a right-wing extremist Republican?
