In case you ever wondered what a Member of the U.S. House is really supposed to do.

Today, September 3rd, was a busy day as the campaign starts kicking into gear. Ivisited the incumbent's town hall in Emmaus, sat in the front row and raised my hand for 90 minutes. One woman sitting to me said, "Wasn't your arm tired?" I told her, I wouldn't tire as long as the Constitution is under attack and gave her my business card.

For lunchtime, I had an AWESOME sandwich at American Sandwich Company in Coopersburg and met a few more residents.

In the afternoon, I took a bus to a Anti-Cap N Trade rally with a cheerful busload of Tea Partiers, and met U.S. Senate candidate Peg Luksik, whom I recommend to people to take a look at. I was very pleased with both her directness and content of her replies tomy toughest questions. Her website is here.

During the day, one man asked me if I knew what my job description was. In reply, I took out my pocket Constitution and showed him Article 1, Section 8. We talked a bit more on it, and he approved of my answers. One more vote for next November! Here is my job description after my election:

  • The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

Mr. Towne,

It is obvious you have not read the Constitution nor clearly understand it. You have listed your "job description." It is woefully short and incorrect. A few examples will prove what I mean.

Article II--The Congress may determine the time of chusing the electors and the day on which they shall vote

Article I--The House of Representatives...shall have the sole power of Impeachment

Article V--Congress shall call a convention on the application of two-thirds of the state legislatures. Also of course right to propose amendments as member of Congress

(This last one seems to be ignored by everyone in Congress including you even though the government has already admitted to do is a criminal violation of oath of office not to call a convention.)

Article VI--The...represenatives..shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation to support this Constitution.

Equally important your job description includes knowledge of powers you don't have.

First Amendment--Congress shall make no law...

Second Amendment-The right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed

Third Amendment-Prescription of occupation of homes by armed troops during times of war

Article III--The judicial power shall be vested...in such inferior courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish. This means you as a member of Congress can eliminate such bogus court powers as "standing to sue" thus giving the courts the power to decide which parts of the Constitution shall be enforced.

Article III--Congress shall have power to declar punishment of treason but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood or Forfeiture

Amendment XII--The counting of ballots for election of president and vice president and if there is a tie, voting to choose a president

Amendment XIII--Enforcement of prohibition against slavery

Amendment XIV--Enforcement of 14th Amendment

Amendment XV--Enforcement of 15th Amendment--right to vote

Amendment XVI--Regulation of income tax

Amendment XIX--Enforcement of right to vote denied on account of sex

Amendment XXIII--Regulation of electors from Washington DC

Amendment XXIV--Regulation of poll tax prohibiting the same

Amendment XV--Determination of if and when a president can remain in office if incapacitated

Amendment XXVI--Right to vote for age 18 enforcement thereof

Amendment XXVII--Limitation on pay and enforcement of the same (which we all know Congress ignores)

Point is Mr. Towne you obviously don't know your job description.

Dear Bill Walker,

Thanks for your reply.  You are correct in that the full job description is beyond Article I, Section 8.

The oath of office is obviously to defend the entire Constitution.
