SOS: Senators on SpeedDial

Have you taken the time to store the Phone Numbers of your U.S. Senators on your Cell Phone? Don't you think it is time?

Have you taken the time to store the Phone Numbers of your U.S. Senators on your Cell Phone? Don't you think it is time?

It is easier to send an email, I know. Unfortunately, they may not even read the emails you send. Automated response, then click and delete. It's possible that your email is never seen by human eyes.

Somebody in Washington, D.C. is not getting the message.  We were against the Corporate Baiiouts. We were against the Stimulus Plan. We are against Tax and Trade Carbon Caps. We are against the Federal Government takeover of the U.S Health Care system. And we are against "Cash for Clunkers".

Yet, Congress is busy at work, either passing legislation or working on compromises so that this legislation can move forward. The House of Representatives could not add additional cash to the Clunkers program any faster than they did this last week. Only the Senate can stop this nonsense.

Therefore, I have found it necessary to add Senators Chambliss (R-Georgia ) and Isakson (R-Georgia) to the numbers stored on my cell phone. I am calling them that often. I should have done so years ago.

I wish that others were calling as often. But when the phones ring twice when I call and then I speak to a real person, I have to wonder just how many calls the Senators are receiving in their offices. There are over 9 million constituents in Georgia. One hundred thousand calls per day would send a loud message. I'd feel a bit better with a few busy signals and perhaps a short wait indicating that others are calling as well. I have called three times in the last two weeks with no waits at all.

Have you taken the time to add the phone numbers of your Senators to your phone? I suggest you do so. And I suggest you start using them.

I also would like to suggest a more direct message to them. To my Senators, I have made it clear that not only do I not support the takeover of Health Care, I do not expect to see them working on compromises with the Democrats on Health Care. Compromising is not the same as "No". Fillibuster if you need to. Take a stand. A real stand.

It's not enough that my Senators are prepared to vote "No".  I need them to fight this legislation as if their political careers depended on it.

Even if you are going to lose the vote, I expect a real fight over these issues.  Do not just sit back and say there is nothing to be done.  Stand on your principles and fight.

I am also planning to visit the local offices of the Senators and my Congressman this August. I can think of nothing that would get the message across than tens of thousands of constituents taking the time to stop in, and let the local offices know that we are less than happy. Nothing would please me more than to find myself waiting for an hour to be seen because there were so many of you ahead of me in the line.

I will also find out when and where the Townhall meetings are being held.  And I will take the time to attend.  I cannot afford not to.  What about you?

If you were one of the many thousands of tax protesters this spring and summer, I especially want you to visit the offices of your Senators and Representative. Deliver a tea bag in person. Make sure that they realize that we are not going away.

I bet the local offices of your Senators are closer than you may imagine. So look them up. And while you are there, grab those local numbers so that you can store them, and then use them!

I wrote a letter to Eric Cantor, my representative, on supporting Ron Paul's legislation on auditing the Federal Reserve. Maybe I should start calling him. =]

Mr. Locke,

Yes, you should.  I spoke with three different people yesterday and they all had the same experience as I did calling our Senators.  No wait.

When you call Rep. Cantor, ask about his town hall meetings.  Share this with your neighbors and take them to it.  Ask him in person about Ron Paul's legislation.
