The Income Tax and the IRS need to be replaced by all Sales Tax, or Fair Tax. by The Real Liberal

Obama's stimulus plan is completly idiotic, puking money everywhere on random things does not mean payback. However, Republicans have a bad plan for stimulating the economy as well, what is it? TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH!!! Republicans think that if the richest get Tax cuts, they will have spare money to create jobs. Apparently, Republicans don't know a thing about economics; because the exact opposite would happen. Businessmen don't care about workers, they want profits. It's their natural selfishness that is what makes them tick. The rich wouldn't create jobs, they would buy new technologies that would cut back on workers, and save costs. The Bush Tax Cuts promoted that.
However, having the rich pay for most of our taxes is not a good idea either. If the CEO's had the highest taxes, they would cut jobs to pay them, or write themselves big fat paychecks. Both ways are like rolling snake eyes!
This is the huge flaw with an Income Tax, when one party benefits, the other looses. Besides, the Income Tax is unnecessary, and we didn't need it in our prime years. In the old days, there was only an income tax during wartime, other than that, we only had taxes on goods. It was a national sales tax! So why can't we just have one big Sales Tax, or Fair Tax?
With a Fair tax, all goods and services would be given a tax, the tax will depend on the item. Plus, a Fair Tax would be simpler than an Income Tax, because it would be honest. People find loopholes in paying an income tax, and most of the time, they can get off scot free. In Fair Tax, you would know that the money is going toward the government.
Plus, in my opinion, there would be a possibility of a budget surplus. I feel that people are more willing to buy things, than to pay taxes. And if the bully we call the IRS were eliminated, there would be no tax season that people stress about. Instead, money would always be coming in, because people would be enthusiasticaly spending on goods. It could pay off our national debt.
In conclusion, a Fair Tax is the best solution in getting the nation back to economic prosperity. It would encourage buying and selling, get rid of the IRS, and make Taxation honest again.
These are my arguments, I choose to stand by them.

Hi Real Liberal, check the above link out and see what you think. Although I agree it would be superior to what we have [almost anything would!], a consumption tax still taxes income through the product.

Let's not encourage the politicians. They spend way too much of our money as it is. Creating a new tax won't help. Removing existing taxes and replacing them with nothing will help.
But even that won't do the job of restoring the economy on a permanent basis until we rip out the Federal Reserve System from its roots. It's the government's ability to engage in deficit spending that causes all the worst problems. Removing the Fed would remove a major source of the funding that covers deficit spending.
If you really want real prosperity, don't look for a new tax. Look for a stable, constant money supply that the politicians and central bankers can't increase whenever the politicians want to go on a spending spree.
Or, we may get both. Look at other countries, specifically our European friends - they all pay a VAT for everything they purchase regardless of your income. In addition, a flat tax is withheld from their paychecks – and I’am assuming based on their income. I see our country heading this way. For example, they are targeting soda and fatty foods to add a VAT. This is to discourage us individual thinkers from consuming such bad foods/drinks. I haven’t had anyone tell what to drink or eat since I was underage, why is our government telling me too? It’s a cover up, they say it’s for health reason – but what they really want is more money from us! So, in essence we are more and more emulating like other countries. Does their system works’ better than ours?  Â
Quiet frankly – the more power you give to any government, regardless if it’s a capitalist, socialist or communist government – the greedier they become and tell you how to live your lives. They may paint a perfect picture, but in the end it is us mere mortals who will suffer.
Like we don't have enough trouble being Taxed Enough Already, now you want to add the power to arbitrarily set prices on top of all the rest of the unconstitutional garbage being hurled from Congress every day? Â VAT in the UK started off as a small levy on sales. Â Today it is 17.5% of every penny spent, and a lot more on many 'luxury' items. Â Guess who gets to define the word 'luxury'.
If you want fair taxes, abolish the IRS, repeal the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 and put government back in its box where it belongs. Â The only fair tax is NO TAX!Â
I am sure they will take up your idea of a FairTax but conveniently forget to abolish the 16th Amendment and disband our friends at the IRS. Then Barry Soetoro can pay for his healthcare while the rest of america starves trying to feed the Great Government Whore.

Hi The Real Liberal,
Calling something that which it is not doesn't really change its nature. There is nothing fair about imposing a tax on others. Each individual's perception of fairness is relative to their own circumstance, there is no such concept as a universal state of fairness that applies to every individual in every circumstance. So the very notion is nothing more than an attempt to put a positive spin on an horrible idea.
You propose using the force of government to control the consumption habits of citizens. This is social engineering. It is all about control and oppression and nothing about revenue or fairness.
The underlying fallacy is that there exists such a thing as benevolent government.  Nope, no such thing. This would be akin to a compassionate fungus, or a thrifty bacteria, or a n invigorating cancer. Liberalism (today's vernacular) is based on this fallacy.
The only "safe" government is one that is near starvation all the time. Government is an incurable cancer on humanity, it can be managed but should never be fed. Any cancer survivor will tell you that when you feed your body, you feed your cancer.
When our civilization consumes and grows beyond a sustainable threshold, enabled only by a fiat currency, the government cancer thrives even more. Then it finds ways to force us to feed it more and more, growing and accelerating our economic growth is for one reason, the cancer demands it.Â
Individuals do not.
The only fair tax is one that each individual can choose to pay or not and assign specifically what it shall be used for. Outside the realm of the cancer's hunger, this is called charity. The government and its promoters abhor charity and attempt to eliminate it at every possible encounter. Your benevolent government at work.
Â
It is sad to see so many others here fall into your trap and begin arguing the merits of the spin, not the ugly essence of your proposal.  Also, it is good to see Walt and others consistently not falling for your spin.
